Colorado playmaker Drelon Miller ‘loving’ offensive role

Drelon Miller said he came to Boulder wanting to be Colorado’s version of Deebo Samuel

When the Colorado Buffaloes lined up for their first offensive snaps this season, freshman Drelon Miller was lined up at running back next to quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Despite being recruited as a wide receiver, Miller simply wants to get the ball in open space, even if that means taking a handoff.

The Silsbee, Texas product is navigating his first college football season after signing with the Buffs in December as a four-star recruit. He has carried the ball three times for 11 yards and also owns 13 receptions for 60 yards. Miller could be in line for more playing time if CU’s injury woes continue at the WR position.

Earlier this week, Miller was asked if he expected his first college snaps to come at running back:

I wanted to be used as a Deebo Samuel type of player,” Miller said. “Wherever I can get the ball, I don’t care. Throw me the ball and give me some space to work.”

As a follow-up, Miller was asked how much he enjoys playing multiple positions:

“I’m most definitely loving it,” he said. “Getting the ball, knowing who’s out there with me, trusting the guys around me, I’m loving it.”

True freshman Drelon Miller earning opportunities within Colorado’s offense

Drelon Miller is developing into a versatile playmaker within Colorado’s offense

Five games into his college career, true freshman Drelon Miller has earned himself opportunities within Colorado football’s revamped offense.

The former four-star prospect is technically a wide receiver, but the Buffs have so far trusted Miller with three rushes, including one during Colorado’s first offensive series of the season. Miller, a native of Silsbee, Texas, also owns eight catches for 33 yards.

His most impressive moment came on a screen play against Baylor. After catching a pass from quarterback Shedeur Sanders about two yards behind the line of scrimmage, Miller juked out a Baylor defender en route to a 10-yard gain.

On Tuesday, CU offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur spoke on Miller’s early impact:

“Drelon is a young player, and we’re fond of saying he’s really good at football,” Shurmur said. “We’ve used him as a wideout, we’ve used him as a running back, and I think it makes sense for him to get a couple touches a game. As the flow of the game dictates, sometimes more than that.”

2024 4-Star WR and former Aggie commit has committed to Colorado

2024 4-star wide receiver Drelon Miller, who recently de-committed from Texas A&M, is heading to Colorado under head coach Deion Sanders.

The relationship between 2024 four-star WR Drelon Miller and Texas A&M has come to a close, for now at least, as the talented receiver will take his talent to Boulder, Colorado, and exciting head coach Deion Sanders, committing to the Buffaloes on Sunday afternoon.

After de-committing from the Aggies back on Oct. 17, now-former head coach Jimbo Fisher, who recruited him, was fired just one month later, leading to several recruits questioning their futures with the Maroon & White.

After his announcement, many of us in the media predicted that the LSU Tigers had momentum after the offensive outburst during the 2023 season. Still, in today’s age of college football recruiting, Sander’s ever-growing influence on some top playmakers in the high school ranks should never be discounted moving forward.

According to 247Sports, Miller is currently positioned as the 14th-ranked wide receiver and the 12th-ranked player in Texas, and due to his incredible versatility, similar to Aggie WR Ainias Smith, his recruiting profile has steadily grown, and every Power 5 program began to realize his true potential.

As we’ve seen in the age of the transfer portal, nothing is set in stone, but if Miller makes an immediate impact as soon as next season, it’s hard to see him looking for a change of scenery.

Texas A&M’s next head coach needs to make 2024 4-Star WR Dre’lon Miller a priority

2024 4-star WR Dre’lon Millers’ future in College Station will likely depend on who becomes the next head football coach at Texas A&M.

Texas A&M’s 2024 recruiting class took several hits in the last two months after four-star offensive tackle Weston Davis flipped his commitment to LSU and four-star wide receiver Dre’lon Miller decommitted on Oct. 17.

After the firing of former head coach Jimbo Fisher, Miller’s collegiate future hangs in the balance. However, he took an unofficial visit during the Aggies’ Oct. 28 home win over South Carolina, and Texas A&M surprisingly remains the favorite to regain his commitment. That will likely depend on who becomes the next head coach, an announcement that could come much sooner than later.

Whoever accepts the position, retaining interim head coach Elijah Robinson, who also serves as the defensive line coach and lead recruiter, is an absolute must. To provide a blueprint for Miller’s playing future, hiring an offensive-minded head coach coupled with a highly competent staff could be enough o reel the Silsbee, Texas, native back in.

Miller is a cheat code on offense, displaying the speed, agility and insane versatility as a kick/punt returner that mirrors senior A&M wide receiver Ainias Smith, who just happened to have his biggest game of the season against the Gamecocks with Dre’lon in attendance.

Behind senior quarterback Jayden Daniels, the LSU Tigers have one of their best offensive seasons since 2019. They have been tenaciously pursuing Miller, who officially visited Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on Nov. 11.

According to 247Sports, Miller is the 66th-ranked prospect, the 14th-ranked wide receiver, and the 12th-ranked player in Texas in the 2024 cycle.

Texas A&M will take on 14th-ranked LSU on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 11 a.m. CT., and ESPN will carry the game.

Who are the top uncommitted players in the 2024 recruiting class?

The latest as the signing period looms.

There are 10 uncommitted players in the top 150 of the 247Sports ranking of the best recruits in the nation. And with spots at a premium, there should be plenty of movement in the next few weeks.

Especially with a flurry of official visits planned by a number of top players, it is likely that every player on this list will be off the board and fully committed within the next couple of weeks.

All data comes from the 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Players can officially sign their National Letter of Intent on Dec. 20 in the early signing period. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, expect every player on this list to be committed by then.

Breaking: 4-star ATH Drelon Miller decommits from Texas A&M, reopens his recruitment

4-star athlete Drelon Miller announced his decommitment from Texas A&M on Tuesday night, opting to reopen his recruitment before December’s signing day.

A dose of disappointing news hit Texas A&M on Tuesday evening, as four-star athlete Drelon Miller announced his commitment from the Aggies. The Silsbee (Texas) prospect unveiled his decision in a social media post on X, formerly Twitter.

The No. 14 wide receiver in the nation and No. 12 overall prospect in Texas committed to Texas A&M back in June. However, as the Maroon and White have struggled offensively in the last few weeks, Miller reportedly reconsidered his decision.

In speaking with Mike Roach of 247Sports, Miller’s father indicated that they are approaching this next stage like a new recruitment in itself and will not make any quick and hasty decisions. Miller is coming off a visit to LSU last weekend, and the Tigers were one of the final schools in the mix back when he originally committed to the Aggies.

In addition to the Tigers, USC, Colorado, and Georgia could all be in the mix, according to 247Sports.

Texas A&M and the Aggie fanbase understand that Miller must do what’s best for him and this significant stage in his career. We wish him the best of luck as he reopens his recruitment and will fully support him no matter where his next home is.

Texas A&M’s 2024 recruiting class is now ranked in the Top 10 after the commitment of 5-star WR, Cam Coleman

Coming off their recent recruiting haul, the Aggies 2024 has cracked the Top 10 in 247Sports’ newest 2024 team rankings.

Texas A&M’s 2024 recruiting class, one of the hottest cycles since the last week of June, started July off with a bang after landing four-star wide receiver Jaylan Hornsby on Saturday; the Aggies’ unstoppable momentum ride continued on Tuesday, which happened to be the Fourth of July, as five-star wide receiver Cameron Coleman, currently positioned as the No.3-ranked WR in the 2024 cycle, shocked the entire college football world by committing to the Maroon and White.

Ah yes, every naysayer and Texas fan who has dedicated too much of their time hoping for a Texas A&M recruiting downfall, sorry? Aggies wide receiver coach Dameyune Craig, who deserves a ton of credit for landing all four WR prospects in the cycle, isn’t finished yet as five-star athlete/wide receiver Terry Bussey, who recently placed the Aggies in his Top 5 program list, looked to be very intrigued after Coleman’s exciting commitment.

Let’s call it the “Coleman effect” for now, as Texas A&M has now broken into the Top 10 in 247Sports’ updated 2024 team rankings; the Aggies soared to No. 9 in both the Overall and Composite rankings from 13th just three days ago. To recap, here are the prospects Texas A&M has landed since Thursday, June 22:

  • Thursday, June 22: Four-star tight end Eric Karner, Four-star linebacker Jordan Lockhart.
  • Friday, June 23: Three-star offensive lineman Coen Echols.
  • Monday, June 26: Four-star offensive tackle Weston Davis.
  • Tuesday, June 27: Three-star edge Gabriel Reliford
  • Thursday, June 29: Four-star wide receiver Drelon Miller
  • Friday, June 30: Four-star linebacker Tyanthony Smith
  • Saturday, July 1: Four-star wide receiver Jaylan Hornsby
  • Tuesday, July 4: Five-star wide receiver Cameron Coleman

With 16 total commits in the cycle, Jimbo Fisher and his staff focus are now focused on a Top 5 finish, and at this point, anything is possible after Tuesday’s results. Gig ’em, and BTHO 2024 recruiting cycle.

What Texas A&M is getting in 4-star wide receiver, Drelon Miller

With experience out wide, in the backfield, and even in the Wildcat, 4-star WR Drelon Miller will become Texas A&M’s newest versatile threat that can line up almost anywhere.

One of the top playmakers in the Lone Star State is officially staying home after four-star wide receiver Drelon Miller announced his commitment to Texas A&M on Thursday night. The 6-0, 190-pound athlete out of Silsbee, TX chose the Aggies over USC and LSU.

Many scouting outlets list Miller as an athlete, even though he’s logged a high production volume as a wide receiver. Upon closer look at his high school tape, it’s not rocket science to see why his versatile skillset was coveted by so many D1 programs in the country.

He can boast the title of being a 1,000-yard receiver on the gridiron, while he’s no stranger to the hardwood either, having averaged 17.5 points per game during his sophomore season. Additionally, he was a district finalist in the 100 meters in track. That multi-sport experience speaks to his versatility as an athlete, and you can be sure that Jimbo Fisher and Bobby Petrino are going to maximize that strength once he arrives in College Station.

Just take a look at one of the key takeaways from 247Sports National Scouting Analyst Gabe Brooks, who evaluated Miller on June 25:

“Devastating offensive weapon who makes plays for his high school team at receiver, running back, and Wildcat QB, accompanied by ample defensive snaps and return game experience. Wins with physical tools, instincts, tenacity, and football IQ.”

Snaps at receiver, running back, and Wildcat QB? Yeah, you can be sure Petrino will be gleaming at every opportunity to scheme Miller open on Saturday afternoons.

In many ways, Miller is equipped to mirror the same type of impact that current Aggie wideout Ainias Smith provides. Though his 2022 campaign was short, Smith saw snaps in the slot (148), backfield (27), wideout (21), and as a punt returner (22), according to PFF. When Smith’s eligibility draws to a close, the Aggies should be well-situated with his heir apparent in Miller on the way.

In reality, the game plan for Texas A&M’s newest commit is simple: get the ball in his hands by any means, and he’ll make defenses pay with yardage after the catch.

With Miller set to follow in the footsteps of Smith, and with a bright offensive mind in Bobby Petrino eager to maximize his potential, it may not be long before we recognize Texas A&M as “wide receiver U.”

Texas A&M’s 2024 recruiting ranking sky rockets after the commitment of 4-star WR, Drelon Miller

After the commitment of explosive four-star WR Drelon Miller, Texas A&M’s 2024 recruiting class has continued to rise in the rankings.

Don’t look now, but Texas A&M is dominating the recruiting trail after landing six commitments in the 2024 recruiting cycle in the last eight days, culminating with the exciting commitment from the best playmaker the state of Texas has to offer in four-star wide receiver, Drelon Miller.

On Thursday night, amid some minor technical difficulties during his announcement, Miller ranked as the 76th player in the cycle, chose the Aggies over USC and LSU, becoming the highest-rated recruit in the class, and according to 247Sports recruiting rankings, Texas A&M is now positioned at 15th in the country, rising nine spots since Wednesday.

Jimbo Fisher and his staff deserve a ton of credit after the work they’ve put in this summer, as nearly every SEC program outside of Vanderbilt seemed to be outworking the Aggies until June, when consecutive weekends filled with high-profile official visits took their course.

Then, as many of us predicted, the commitments began to pile up late last week, starting with four-star tight end Eric Karner and four-star linebacker Jordan Lockhart announcing their intentions on Thursday, ending with three-star offensive lineman Coen Echols’ verbal on Friday.

While the skeptics continued to doubt A&M’s momentum, four-star offensive lineman Weston Davis stunned LSU on Monday by picking the Aggies in a surprise, followed by Tuesday afternoon’s commitment from one of the most underrated prospects in the class in three-star Edge, Gabriel Reliford. So there it is; a once “flailing” recruiting class has quietly grown into one of the most competent and complete groups in the cycle, and even though there’s plenty of work to be done next month, Fisher and his staff have laid the groundwork to finish. in the Top 10, or even better.
