Spencer Dinwiddie hopes to have role like Draymond Green does for Warriors

Spencer Dinwiddie has envisioned the Nets looking like the Golden State Warriors since Brooklyn acquired Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving.

[jwplayer kBav5MVx]

Since Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant came to Brooklyn, Spencer Dinwiddie knew his role was going to change. The point guard has never had a problem with that idea, though — all Dinwiddie wants to do is win.

But with Irving missing the majority of 2019-20 and Durant sitting out the whole season, it’s still unclear what the roles will be for each player on the Nets roster beyond Brooklyn’s two superstars.

Dinwiddie doesn’t know for sure what his role will be in 2020-21, but he expressed on ESPN’s “The Jump” on Friday what he’d like it to be:

“Obviously, we don’t know who’s going to start and who’s going to come off the bench as of right now — and that’s KD and Kyrie excluded, of course. But really, when all this was being formed, I viewed myself [like] we were going to take the Golden State model [and I’d work] as kinda the Draymond Green, the glue. Sometimes I get 10 boards, sometimes I get 10 assists, sometimes I score a little bit more, whatever it is. ‘Cause, obviously we have a super dynamic point guard and then we also have the greatest scorer of all time. That’s how I always viewed myself when it was being talked about and put together. I would be blessed to have that role this year and try to win a championship.”

Draymond Green reacts to Jae Crowder’s performance for the Miami Heat inside the Orlando Bubble

During game three of the NBA Finals, Draymond Green chimed in on Twitter to say Jae Crowder needs more “talk/love” for his postseason play.

For the first time in five seasons, Draymond Green isn’t lacing up for the NBA Finals. Although he’s not on the court, the former Defensive Player of the Year is paying attention to the action inside the Orlando Bubble.

When he’s not at the desk serving as a guest analyst on TNT’s Inside the NBA, Green has been sharing some of his analysis on social media. The Golden State Warriors forward has weighed in on a range of topics on Twitter, including moments that featured Tyler Herro, Jamal Murray and P.J. Tucker.

While Herro, Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo have headlined the Heat’s run through the postseason, Green wanted to give another player credit on Eric Spoelstra’s squad.

On Sunday during game three of the NBA Finals, the three-time All-Star was disappointed with the lack of credit Jae Crowder was getting for his performance inside the Orlando Bubble. Green called the lack of chatter for Crowder “an embarrassment to the integrity of the game of basketball.”

Via @Money23Green on Twitter:

Through three games in the NBA Finals, Crowder is averaging 12.0 points on 53.8% shooting from the field with 5.7 rebounds and 1.0 assists in 29.0 minutes per contest. Prior to the Finals, the Marquette product was a consistent presence, averaging 12.3 points on 39.7% shooting with 5.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 31.4 minutes per game.

However, Crowder’s impact doesn’t always show up in the boxscore. Similar to Green, the veteran forward brings a level of intensity and toughness a playoff team can thrive on.

After a game three NBA Finals victory where Crowder added 12 points and eight rebounds, the Heat will have the chance to even the series against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday at 6 P.M. PT.

Draymond Green reacts to the Houston Texans firing Bill O’Brien after 0-4 start to NFL season

After Bill O’Brien was fired as the head coach of the Houston Texans, Draymond Green chimed in with his thoughts on the move on Instagram.

During his early entrance to the offseason, Draymond Green has been sharing his opinions on some of the action inside the NBA’s Orlando Bubble. Whether it’s on Inside the NBA on TNT or his social media, Green hasn’t held back with his reactions. On Monday, the three-time All-Star switched from hoops to football.

Following the Houston Texans moving on from Bill O’Brien as the head coach and general manager, Green weighed in on his Instagram story. The former Defensive Player of the Year was critical O’Brien’s move to trade DeAndre Hopkins to the Arizona Cardinals, calling the pass catcher “the best receiver in the game.” Green wished luck to the next coach in Houston.

Via @Ali_Thanawalla on Twitter:

In six seasons, O’Brien led the Texans to four division titles with a 52-48 record as head coach. However, Houston could not advance to the AFC Championship game despite four trips to the playoffs.

When the Texans fired GM Brian Gaine in 2019, O’Brien added a role in the front office along with his job on the sidelines. As GM, O’Brien made a trio of headline trades.

After he traded former first overall pick Jadeveon Clowney to the Seattle Seahawks, O’Brien dealt two first and two second-round picks to the Miami Dolphins for offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil and wide receiver Kenny Stills.

Prior to the start of the 2020 season, O’Brien was active in the trade market again. In a surprise move, O’Brien traded All-Pro pass catcher Hopkins to the Cardinals for running back David Johnson, a 2020 second-round pick and 2021 fourth-round pick.

After a handful of head-scratching deals paired with a 0-4 start to 2020, the Texans decided to remove O’Brien from his head coach and general manager positions. Associate head coach Romeo Crennel will take over as the team’s interim head coach.

Although they won’t have a first or second-round pick in the 2021 draft, the next coach to roam the sidelines in Houston will have the opportunity to work with one of the league’s premier passers in Deshaun Watson.

Watch: Draymond Green shows off range at offseason shooting workout

Although he’s not at the Golden State Warriors voluntary offseason minicamp, Draymond Green is busy working on his long-distance shooting.

Although he’s not on the practice floor at the Golden State Warriors voluntary minicamp, Draymond Green is putting in work this offseason. Both Green and Stephen Curry didn’t travel to “The Dubble” for family reasons.

However, the former Defensive Player of the Year was working out in Los Angeles at the Samson Center with Travis Walton. The NBA skills coach shared a series of videos from Green’s workout on his Instagram. Green was working on some mid-range and long-distance jumpers.

The three-time All-Star’s performance should bring a smile to his Splash Brother teammates. Green buried seven consecutive attempts from well beyond the 3-point line.

Via @warriorsworld on Twitter:

Top-rated five-star high school recruit Mikey Williams made an appearance at Green’s workout.

Green struggled from beyond the arc in 2019-20, shooting 27.9% on 3.0 3-point attempts per game. Green’s long-distance shooting numbers from 2019-20 was his lowest mark since his rookie season (20.9%). However, the forward dealt with injuries throughout the year, limiting his season to only 43 games.

Green’s display at his offseason workout could be a positive sign for the Golden State Warriors moving into the new season.

Draymond Green brings analysis for Game 4 of Nuggets vs. Lakers to Twitter

During the Lakers game four win against the Nuggets, Draymond Green chimed in with analysis on Twitter for the Western Conference Finals.

When Draymond Green decides to hang up his jersey for the last time, it’s a good bet he’ll have a seat in front of the camera as a basketball commentator. With the Golden State Warriors on the outside of the Orlando Bubble, Green has served as a guest analyst on the NBA on TNT.

When he’s not at the desk with Ernie Johnson, Shaquille O’Neal, Kenny “the Jet” Smith and Charles Barkley, the 30-year-old forward has been sharing his playoff commentary on social media. During game four of the Western Conference Finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Denver Nuggets, Green chimed in with analysis for the tilt on Twitter.

After an acrobatic layup from Murray, Green had high praise for the Kentucky Wildcats product’s bucket, calling it “MJesque.” After driving past Caldwell-Pope to the basket, Murray finished an improbable up and under layup with James defending the rim.

Watch Murray’s impressive layup via @NBA on Twitter:

Murry capped off the contest with 32 points on 12-of-20 shooting from the field with eight assists, three rebounds, and a block.

Draymond Green, Jaylen Brown agree: close-knit winners argue

While Draymond Green and Jaylen Brown might battle on the court, they agree about how winning teams comport themselves when the stakes are high.

Whatever happened in the locker room after the Boston Celtics’ loss to the Miami Heat, it didn’t seem to ruffle forward Jaylen Brown’s feathers — nor did he seem especially upset with the teammate who was reportedly doing much of the shouting after the loss, Marcus Smart.

If anything, he seemed closer to him than ever.

“He plays with passion, he’s full of fire — and that’s what I love about him most, to be honest,” explained Brown once the postgame brouhaha had calmed.

“He has that desire and that will. We need him to continue to have that. It’s ups and downs with families, all the time but we embrace each other for who we are, who Marcus is. I love him for it. So, we’ve got to get ready to come back taking the same fire and add it to Game 3.”

Perhaps the fight ought to be seen as a positive.

What might sound absurd was born out the reaction of the rest of the team, with Kemba Walker, Jayson Tatum and coach Brad Stevens all downplaying the exchange in the presser, and teammates like Enes Kanter doing the same on social media.

Another defensive night mare with a history of clashing with his team in high-passion moments weighed in on the spat, the Golden State Warrior’s Draymond Green.

Speaking on TNT’s “Inside the NBA,” Green offered his take on the varieties of infighting in the NBA.

“The reality is, I think, winning teams argue way more than losing teams,” he observed, “because losing teams, they bicker.”

“So, if I’m on a losing team, I’m going to come to you and say, ‘hey, man — [he] isn’t passing me the ball; he’s freezing me out’. And then you partner up with me, and now you and me are looking at [him] like he’s crazy. A winning team is going to say, ‘your body language was terrible in the first quarter,’ because that’s what I saw when I was watching the game.”

“Winning teams will always argue more than losing teams, and in fact, the media can love losing teams if they want, if they don’t want any arguing, and those teams will just lose and that’s that,” added Green.

There’s no doubt in any basketball mind worthy of consideration that the Celtics are a winning team after muscling their way through the first two rounds of the East Playoffs past some of the NBA’s top talent.

And there shouldn’t be much doubt that this team has the talent to get past Miami.

But Boston will need to put these feelings to bed to play with the unity needed to get the job done, and it sounds like that may have happened before the sun even rose on the argument.

Report: Steph Curry and Draymond Green ‘doubtful’ to participate in Warriors offseason minicamp

Both Steph Curry and Draymond Green are “doubtful” for the Golden State Warriors in-market offseason minicamp due to family reasons.

Although they’re not in the Orlando Bubble for the postseason, the Golden State Warriors will be back on the court soon. Starting next week, the Warriors will open up a mid-offseason minicamp.

On Monday, members of the Golden State Warriors will report to a team designated hotel in San Francisco for coronavirus testing and a 48-hour quarantine. Following the testing period, group workouts will take place at the Chase Center. The hotel and arena will serve as an in-market bubble for two weeks.

With the Warriors not included in the NBA’s Orlando Bubble plan, the minicamp will be the first time Steve Kerr’s squad will be on the floor together for organized basketball activities in six months. Yet, Golden State could be without a pair of All-Stars.

According to Wes Goldberg of the Bay Area News Group, both Stephen Curry and Draymond Green are “doubtful” for the Warriors minicamp due to “family reasons.”

Via @wcgoldberg on Twitter:

If Green and Curry can join Golden State’s camp after the start, both players are allowed to join the team anytime during the two-week camp after they clear coronavirus protocols, per Goldberg.

Although Curry and Green aren’t expected to be inside Golden State’s edition of the Bubble, Klay Thompson could rejoin his teammates for the first time since injuring his knee in the 2019 NBA Finals.

The Warriors offseason minicamp will allow Kerr and Bob Myers to see a healthy Thompson alongside Golden State’s 2019 arrivals Andrew Wiggins, Eric Paschall and Marquese Chriss.

With a bevy of questions surrounding the Warriors prior to their early entrance to the offseason, getting the players back on the court could provide some clarity after an extended layoff.

Draymond Green chimes in on Twitter with analysis for Heat vs. Celtics Game 2

During game two of the Eastern Conference Finals, Draymond Green chimed in on Twitter with a suggestion for the Celtics against the Heat.

While he hasn’t been suiting up inside the Orlando Bubble, Draymond Green has been paying attention to the NBA’s postseason action at Disney World. As the Golden State Warriors dive into their extended offseason, Green has stepped in front of the camera to serve as an analyst on the NBA on TNT and “The Arena.”

Although he wasn’t on set with Ernie Johnson, Kenny “The Jet” Smith, Shaquille O’Neal and Charles Barkley, the three-time All-Star provided some analysis during game two of the Eastern Conference Finals.

After the Miami Heat stormed back from a 17 point deficit in the third quarter against the Boston Celtics, Green chimed in with a suggestion on Twitter. The former Defensive Player of the Year advocated for Brad Stevens to use Grant Williams at the center and match up Jaylen Brown with Miami’s Tyler Herro.

Via @Money23Green on Twitter:

After they outscored the Celtics 37-17 in the third quarter, the Heat were able to close out game two, 106-101. Behind 25 points on 10-of-19 shooting from Goran Dragic and Bam Adebayo’s double-double, Miami moved to a 2-0 series lead over Boston.

During the Heat’s game two victory, Green’s former teammate Andre Iguodala went scoreless, logging only one assist in seven minutes.

The Heat will be back on the floor with a chance to take a commanding 3-0 lead over the Celtics on Saturday at 5:30 P.M. PT.
