Draymond Green: ‘nothing changes’ with Klay Thompson relationship

Draymond Green doesn’t believe his relationship with Klay Thompson will change off the court following his departure to the Dallas Mavericks

Klay Thompson has ended his 13-year tenure with the Golden State Warriors. The four-time NBA champion has joined the Dallas Mavericks in a sign-and-trade deal. His future had been a topic of discussion throughout the 2023-24 season. His exit has forced the Warriors to re-tool their roster during the summer, with Buddy Hield and Kyle Anderson the headline additions thus far.

During a recent episode of “The Draymond Green Show,” Golden State’s veteran forward revealed Thompson had informed him and Steph Curry of his decision to leave the franchise a week before free agency began.

Nevertheless, Green made it clear that Thompson’s decision to leave the Bay Area may change things on the basketball court, but the relationship they have built outside of basketball won’t change. Golden State’s trio has been together for over a decade, and their chemistry off the court was a significant factor in their dominance on the hardwood.

Draymond Green believes Clippers ‘killed’ Paul George trade

Draymond Green believes the LA Clippers ensured Paul George didn’t land with the Golden State Warriors via sign-and-trade.

The Golden State Warriors reportedly had an interest in acquiring Paul George in a sign-and-trade from the LA Clippers. George eventually opted out of his player option and chose to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers, leaving Golden State to continue searching for high-level additions.

During a recent episode of “The Draymond Green Show” podcast, the Warriors veteran forward shared his belief that the Clippers ‘killed’ a potential sign-and-trade between the two teams. George would have strengthened a conference rival had the trade gone through. Instead, he will now be playing his basketball in the Eastern Conference.

“For us to get Paul George, it would have taken a sign-and-trade,” Green said. “The Clippers didn’t really wanna play ball. Didn’t really wanna help him get him to where he wanted to go…So, these organizations don’t always be willing to play ball. And I don’t think the Clippers were really willing to play ball for Paul George.”

Golden State’s roster will look different next season. They lost Klay Thompson to the Dallas Mavericks in a sign-and-trade deal with the Dallas Mavericks. Chris Paul has joined the San Antonio Spurs. And Dario Saric has agreed to a two-year deal with the Denver Nuggets.

The Warriors have since added Buddy Hield, Kyle Anderson, De’Anthony Melton and Lindy Waters III. Nevertheless, there’s no doubt George would have positioned Golden State to challenge for a championship next season. Now, there will be some questions the team needs to answer once the 2024-25 season gets underway.

Draymond Green says Rob Dillingham will make teams regret passing

NBA veteran Draymond Green had good things to say about Rob Dillingham.

The NBA draft has come and gone and both Reed Sheppard and Rob Dillingham parlayed their time at Kentucky into being top ten picks. Both have the qualities that could make them stars as professionals. At least one NBA star thinks Dillingham, in particular, will be great.

Draymond Green has played for the Golden State Warriors for 12 seasons, and has won four NBA championships. He is also not afraid to say what’s on his mind, and had some things to say about Dillingham being picked eighth by the Minnesota Timberwolves.

On his podcast, The Draymond Green Show, he had this to say:

Who won the draft to me was the Minnesota Timberwolves. The reason the Minnesota Timberwolves won the draft is that they drafted their point guard of the future, Rob Dillingham, who I think is a very special player.

He added:

There’s going to be some teams that regret passing Rob Dillingham.

Time will tell just how good Rob Dillingham is in the NBA, but there is no doubting his talent with the basketball. He is fearless, and is immediately one of the NBA’s quickest players. His ability to create in a number of ways will serve him well, and his potential is through the roof. Draymond Green thinks the Timberwolves got a star.

Steph Curry and Draymond Green were “on board” with Paul George chase

The Golden State Warriors stars were both on board with the franchise’s pursuit of Paul George.

Paul George has opted out of his player option for next season, ending the Golden State Warriors‘ chances of acquiring him via trade. The Warriors had been heavily linked with the All-Star forward and had reportedly extended multiple options for a potential trade package. Trading for George would likely have ended Klay Thompson’s tenure in the Bay Area.

Thompson is entering unrestricted free agency on June 30, and currently, it looks like his time with Golden State has reached an end. He has multiple interested teams from around the NBA. Interestingly, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green were “100% on board” with Golden State’s pursuit of George, as The Athletic’s Tim Kawakami reported.

“The Warriors had agreed to give George a max, four-year extension upon arrival. They believed they had proposed several variations of a trade that the Clippers could and would accept,” Kawakami reported. “Stephen Curry and Draymond Green were 100 percent on board. George gave strong indications he wanted to join the Warriors. But the Clippers never agreed to any version of a trade, and now George is a free agent and essentially beyond the Warriors’ reach.”

With George now off the table for Golden State, they must begin exploring their options; of course, that could also mean retaining Thompson and running it back with their championship-winning core, although that’s looking increasingly unlikely.

Whatever the Warriors decide to do, they must approach this summer with the mindset of improving the roster and piecing together a contending roster. George would have been the ideal addition. Now, the front office must pinpoint another target and move swiftly.

Draymond Green reacts to Bronny James joining LeBron James, Lakers

What are Draymond Green and other high-profile NBA players saying and thinking about Bronny and the Lakers?

Golden State Warriors all-star forward Draymond Green gives his take on Bronny James being drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2024 NBA Draft, joining his dad LeBron to become the first father/son active duo in the league.

Before his collegiate career began, Bronny went into cardiac arrest in July of 2023 while working out at USC. It was later revealed he had a congenital heart defect. He was cleared to return, and in recent weeks, he was medically cleared to play in the NBA, which removed a final obstacle to the Lakers in their attempt to select him at No. 55 in the 2024 NBA draft.

James finished his high school career at Sierra Canyon as a four-star recruit and a McDonald’s All-American. The guard averaged 14.1 points, 5.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.7 steals his senior year of high school.

LeBron James’ deadline to opt out of his deal with the Lakers was Friday. He did in fact opt out of his deal and is fully expected to remain with the team as he and his son prepare to make NBA history.

Draymond Green shares uncertainty surrounding Klay Thompson’s future

Draymond Green is uncertain on Klay Thompson’s future with the Golden State Warriors.

Klay Thompson’s future continues to be a major talking point surrounding the Golden State Warriors. The four-time champion will enter unrestricted free agency in the coming weeks and is expected to draw interest from multiple teams around the NBA. Thompson will likely want to stay in the Bay Area but could be tempted by an opportunity to play a big role on a contending roster.

During a recent episode of “The Draymond Green Show” podcast, the Warriors veteran forward expressed his uncertainty about Thompson’s future with Golden State and admitted that changes would likely occur before the new season.

“These are the decisions we have to make. I am happy I ain’t got the job, it’s all on Steve. But Steve’s great in those situations and I think he’ll make him,” Green said. “Mike’s doing a great job. It’ll be very important for us to try to get Klay back. I think that’s huge—what does Klay do? If Klay decides not to come back, what does that look like for us? Are you swinging to try to get another big guy, like what does that look like? There are some decisions that have to be made for us.”

The Philadelphia 76ers and Oklahoma City Thunder are likely the biggest threats to poach Thompson away from the Bay Area. Both are contending teams that can offer a legitimate role.

Thompson has won four championships with the Warriors. If the front office makes him a fair deal, he will likely remain with the franchise for the remainder of his career. However, there is a chance he could look for a fresh start on a new team, which would force the Warriors to pivot during the offseason.

Draymond Green discusses how the Warriors need to alter their approach

Draymond Green believes the Golden State Warriors needs to alter their approach heading into next season.

The Golden State Warriors have been watching the playoffs from home. They failed to qualify for the postseason following a difficult season, both on and off the court. As such, they’re expected to make some moves during the summer, with the franchise looking to add some fresh talent and re-position itself as a contending roster in the Western Conference.

During a recent episode of “The Draymond Green Show,” Golden State’s veteran champion provided his thoughts on another way the team can improve over the offseason. The outspoken forward believes his team needs to change its approach to get things back on track.

“It changes, and we’re adjusting to that change which is great,” Green said. “I think Steve [Kerr] is doing an incredible job where he’s becoming more open to Jonathan Kuminga having the ball more or Kuminga being in the pick and roll, running some iso’s for Kuminga. It takes some time to adjust to that when you’ve had the level of success that we’ve had doing what we’ve done.”

Jonathan Kuminga was a bright spot in the Warriors season, as were rookies Brandin Podziemski and Trayce Jackson-Davis. Green is likely hoping the younger talents on the roster are given bigger roles next season.

The Warriors front office has some decisions to make in the coming months. Changes will undoubtedly happen. However, the Warriors may lean into the younger talents already on the roster as they bid to bounce back once the new season begins.

Warriors need to make Klay Thompson feel loved

The Golden State Warriors must ensure Klay Thompson feels like the franchise still wants him.

Klay Thompson spent the entire 2023-24 season without a contract extension. The four-time NBA champion is entering unrestricted free agency this summer. The Golden State Warriors have reportedly been dragging their heels on entering negotiations. Thompson is drawing interest from teams around the NBA, and the Warriors front office could be looking to gauge his market value.

According to Kendrick Perkins, who spoke to Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson via the “Scoop B Radio” podcast, the Warriors need to make Thompson feel loved. Perkins pointed toward the recent contract extensions given to Thompson’s teammates, such as the four-year $100 million deal Draymond Green signed last summer.

“He just needs to feel loved,” Perkins said. “I mean, he can’t go wrong either way…Is Klay really happy there? Like, he watched everyone there get a $100 million-plus: Draymond got his $100 million. You watched Andrew Wiggins get his $100 million. You watched Jordan Poole before he got traded get his $100 million… Klay’s like, Damn. When is it my turn?”

Thompson’s future is certainly unclear. He could be tempted by a bigger role on a contending team elsewhere around the NBA. He is not expected to chase a significant payday.

Nevertheless, Thompson has repeatedly discussed his desire to remain with the Warriors and retire in the Bay Area. If the front office provides him with a reasonable offer and a role that makes sense for what he wants to achieve in the final stage of his career, it’s likely he will remain with the franchise. However, the longer the Warriors take to begin those negotiations, the greater the risk that their championship core could break up.

Skip Bayless blasts Draymond Green as NBA’s ‘dirtiest player’

Is Draymond Green the dirtiest player in NBA history?

Draymond Green is known for his highly competitive nature. The Golden State Warriors forward can sometimes overstep the line. This past season, Green served two suspensions due to violating NBA policy. As such, he has a bad reputation with some sections of the league-wide fanbase and media.

In a recent episode of “The Skip Bayless Show,” the veteran reported labeled Green as the ‘dirtiest player in NBA history.’ He cited Green’s disciplinary issues throughout his career and the style of play he brings to the court, where he is often seen as an instigator and enforcer for the Warriors.

“Draymond Green is, no exaggeration, the dirtiest player in NBA history, by far.” Bayless said. “The dirtiest player in NBA history, by far, is Draymond Green…I dare you to go on YouTube and watch those low-light tapes of the cavalcade of the Draymond Green dirtiest plays over the years…Draymond is the all-time cheap shot artist.”

Green is a four-time NBA champion. His edgy style of play has been indispensable to Steve Kerr’s team. He gives them an edge on both sides of the ball. He is also a generational defensive talent with an elite basketball IQ.

Despite his reputation, it’s unlikely that Green is the dirtiest player in league history. He’s competitive and combative, and sometimes he can get over-emotional. Yet, there have been countless enforcers with that style of play. As such, Bayless’ title for Green is likely nothing more than hyperbole.

Rasheed Wallace continues back-and-forth with Draymond Green on hypothetical 2004 Pistons vs. 2017 Warriors

The back-and-forth between Draymond Green and Rasheed Wallace on hypothetical matchup between the 2017 Warriors and 2004 Pistons continued on Sunday.

The buzz around the hypothetical matchup between the 2004 Detroit Pistons and the 2017 Golden State Warriors is beginning to heat up. The chatter started when former NBA champion Rasheed Wallace had a strong prediction when it came to a hypothetical matchup between the championship 2004 Pistons and the championship 2017 Warriors.

On his podcast “Sheed & Tyler,” the former Detroit All-Star forward the Pistons would beat the Warriors. On Twitter, Draymond Green responded, giving reasons why he thought the Warriors would win, including Detroit’s lack of offensive production.

On Sunday, the back-and-forth continued when Wallace responded once again. Before going deeper into the conversation, Wallace made it clear there is no beef between him and Green and the back-and-forth isn’t personal. This time, Wallace brought up Golden State’s size. Wallace also mentioned going on Green’s podcast to break down rosters for each team.

Via @UnderdogSheed on Twitter:

In 2004, the Pistons eliminated Kobe Bryant and the Lakers in five games to win the NBA Title. Along with Wallace, the Pistons were led by Chauncey Billups. Tayshaun Prince, Rip Hamilton and Ben Wallace.
