Former NFL scout explains why Drake Maye is most impressive rookie QB

Former NFL scout admits Drake Maye has been the most impressive rookie QB

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye continues to get praise on a national level. NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah, a former NFL scout, said Maye was the most impressive out of all of the rookie quarterbacks.

Maye has given the Patriots a strong offensive building block for the future. He has recorded 1,696 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions in a year where he hasn’t had much help. The offensive line has continued to struggle, and the Patriots still lack explosive receiving talent.

Yet despite all of the personnel issues, Maye has remained a bright spot for the team.

“If you’re going to ask me about all of these rookie quarterbacks, what I’ve been most impressed by? I would say Drake Maye,” said Jeremiah, when appearing on “The Rich Eisen Show.” “He’s got nothing. He’s got nothing to work with.

“The whole worry was, we’re gonna ruin Drake Maye by putting him out there because of what we have around him and the exact opposite happened. Drake Maye has gone in there and made everyone else around him better, which for a rookie quarterback, that’s some rare stuff. So of all the fan bases, the one that I feel should be the most excited right now should be New England because of what he’s doing with what he’s with.”

The early returns on Maye have been solid. If anything, it gives the Patriots real hope for the future, assuming they put all of the pieces around him.

With the right pieces, New England could return as a viable AFC contender.

Jacoby Brissett’s reaction to this Drake Maye throw is must-see

Jacoby Brissett’s reaction to this throw was priceless

New England Patriots veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett was hyped for rookie Drake Maye after the incredible touchdown pass he made to tight end Austin Hooper last week against the Indianapolis Colts.

Although the Patriots lost the contest, it was still an incredible play.

The pass itself was a dot over the head of Colts linebacker Zaire Franklin. Hooper snagged the ball from the air and carried it into the end zone for his third touchdown of the season.

The Patriots released a mic’d up video where a fired-up Brissett could be heard on the sidelines cheering on the cool, calm and collected rookie.

“Oh my god!” Brissett exclaimed.

“Nice catch, wasn’t it?” Maye responded.

The buzz surrounding Maye continues to grow by the day. He continues to impress everyone, including teammates, NFL analysts, fans and even opponents. On this particular day, he surprised a longtime veteran quarterback with plenty of experience at the NFL level.

Patriots QB Drake Maye joins elite company in unexpected category

Who knew Drake Maye’s rushing numbers would look like this?

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has joined some elite company in the running department.

Per the 33rd Team, the Patriots’ rookie signal-caller has the highest yards per carry by any quarterback in a season since 2000. Maye has 9.1 yards per carry so far this season, surpassing the previous record-holder, former Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick, who had 8.5 yards per carry in 2013.

Vick also holds the third spot with 8.4 yards per carry in 2006. Maye currently has 38 carries for 345 yards and a touchdown on the season.

Vick defined a generation of rushing quarterbacks and set the standard for many years during his NFL run. If anything, a stat like this proves Maye is headed in the right direction.

Patriots CB makes revelation on Drake Maye’s early days in New England

Alex Austin admits the team always knew Drake Maye was a “dog”

The New England Patriots already knew what they had in quarterback Drake Maye from the very beginning, according to cornerback Alex Austin.

Maye had another strong showing against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, going 24-of-30 through the air for 238 yards, a touchdown and an interception. The lone interception came on a dropped pass by tight end Hunter Henry.

In addition to the passing yards, Maye accumulated 59 rushing yards to add to a total of 422 yards on offense for New England.

“From Day 1 when he got here, we knew he had it. Drake is a dog,” Austin said, via Boston Herald’s Andrew Callahan.

Despite all of the moving parts with the Patriots’ struggling roster, Maye has impressed in a major way on the field. The team might not have an offensive identity, but they have their quarterback.

WATCH: Patriots QB Drake Maye hits Austin Hooper for leaping touchdown grab

The Drake Maye and Austin Hooper connection continues

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye has found comfort in throwing to the tight ends this season.

That was once again evident on his touchdown pass to veteran tight end Austin Hooper, who made a leaping grab to give the Patriots the lead in the first half of Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts.

Maye squeezed the throw through several Colts defenders for the 16-yard touchdown. It ended an eight-play, 70-yard drive and took 4:34 off the clock. The touchdown grab was Hooper’s second of the season, as he continues to be a dependable second option for the Patriots offense.

Several offensive line penalties marred the offense throughout the game. Nevertheless, they were able to have some degree of success. Maye is keeping plays alive and constantly finding his open receivers.

WATCH: Drake Maye takes off and explodes for big running play

Drake Maye has some wheels on him

The New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts had some offensive fireworks to start Sunday’s game.

Quarterback Drake Maye made one of the biggest plays of the day for the Patriots with a huge running play that put the team in Indy’s territory.

Maye made the most of a collapsing pocket by scrambling behind the left guard for 41 yards. He weaved his way through Colts defenders, setting the Patriots up in good field position. The drive ended with a field goal, but Maye once again showed off his explosive running ability.

We have seen the rookie quarterback run the ball several times this season, and it’s clearly an important part of his game. It has opened things up in a major way for a Patriots team with a struggling offensive line.

Maye buying time with his legs and making plays happen has been the best avenue of success for New England.

Three-time Patriots Super Bowl champ admits Drake Maye is impressive

James White shares his thoughts on Patriots rookie QB Drake Maye

Former New England Patriots running back James White shared his thoughts on rookie quarterback Drake Maye during an episode of “The Money Down Podcast.”

The North Carolina product has been making waves across the league with multiple veterans singing his praises on a weekly basis. You can now add the three-time Super Bowl champion to that list.

“Drake Maye been handling business. I gotta give him a ton of credit. For a rookie, he’s not necessarily playing like one,” said White. “…He’s giving them a chance. It looks different than what we’ve seen from maybe Patriots quarterbacks in the past, but it’s been cool to see. He’s getting the ball out on time. He’s not holding onto the football. He’ll take the checkdowns. It looks like he knows what he’s looking at.”

The Patriots are coming off back-to-back losses to the Miami Dolphins and Los Angeles Rams, but Maye’s play hasn’t wavered in a tough season for the team.

They’ll have a lot of work to do in the offseason, but it’s clear they’ve figured out the most important position on the field.

Patriots OC calls for rookie Drake Maye to improve one constant struggle

Alex Van Pelt wants rookie QB Drake Maye to knock off the turnovers

New England Patriots offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt isn’t giving Drake Maye a pass for the numerous turnovers.

Many have chalked those struggles up to a rookie quarterback learning at the NFL level. However, Van Pelt shot down the rookie excuse when speaking with media members on Wednesday.

“The turnovers, they have to stop,” said Van Pelt, as transcribed by the Boston Herald’s Doug Kyed. “There’s no excuse there, rookie, 10-year player that doesn’t matter. We can’t turn the ball over and expect to win games.”

Maye has thrown seven interceptions and fumbled five times through seven starts. It’s an alarming trend that obviously needs to improve moving forward.

With that said, Maye is also playing behind arguably the NFL’s worst offensive line. There are players blocking for him who probably wouldn’t even make half of the rosters in the league.

It’s a mess right now.

It doesn’t help matters that the team is severely lacking in playmaking wide receivers as well. Maye is a young player carrying a horrendous offense on his shoulders. He’s playing Superman for a roster full of kryptonite.

Patriots rookie QB Drake Maye shows off rare talent against the Dolphins

Patriots rookie QB Drake Maye shows off rare talent even in a loss against the Dolphins

Since taking over the starting role from Jacoby Brissett just a handful of weeks ago, New England Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye has continually showed off incredible flashes of talent that made him one of the top prospects of the 2024 NFL Draft. This past weekend against the division rival Miami Dolphins, Maye continued to show out and made some truly eye popping throws despite a tough loss.

Maye was solid on the day, completing 22 of 37 pass attempts, for 222 yards and 1 touchdown. Maye also continued to show he was an NFL-level athlete as he carried the ball 5 times for 26 yards. The throw Maye made to Austin Hooper in the fourth quarter was particularly impressive. Rolling out of pressure and throwing some 45 yards off his back foot to a wide-open tight end for a touchdown.

It has become clear that Maye is the engine of this New England offense and the future at the position. As Maye continues to develop and hone in his incredible talent, he could easily become one of the best quarterbacks in the entire AFC. The sky is the limit for Maye, who was one of the most gifted signal callers in the draft, and that is starting to show up on game day.

Patriots QB Drake Maye reacts to former college coach’s firing

Drake Maye comments on former North Carolina coach Mack Brown’s firing

New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye was disappointed by the firing of his college head coach, former North Carolina coach Mack Brown.

The coach had compiled a 6-5 record in the 2024 season with one more game set to take place against North Carolina State on Friday. Maye rose to a top NFL quarterback prospect while playing under Brown for three seasons.

It’s clear the former head coach played a major role in his career.

“Coach Brown, he meant the world to me,” Maye told reporters. “He really was probably the main reason I went to North Carolina. He’s a Hall of Fame coach. He’s done it, and he’s such a players’ coach. I saw the news and hate it for him. I love coach and appreciate what he did for me. I know he left it all out there, and he’s got no regrets.”

Brown’s run in North Carolina ends with a 44-32 record and five straight bowl game appearances. One has to wonder if this will be the final stop for the legendary coach or if he will land on his feet somewhere else.
