Texans could add Oilers color to new 2024 uniforms

The Houston Texans have heard their fans and have suggested looking into adding Oilers blue into their 2024 uniforms.

The Tennessee Titans may own the Houston Oilers franchise records and uniform designs, but they can’t own a color — not unless their chief counsel is Howard Hamlin.

According to “In the Loop” co-host John Lopez, Houston Texans senior vice president of marketing and communications/chief marketing officer Doug Vosik joined the Sports Radio 610 [KILT-AM] program to talk about the future of the team’s uniforms.

“Texans marketing SVP Doug Vosik just confirmed, ‘we got you’ when asked about the H-Town Blue color being a part of the @HoustonTexans 2024 uniforms,” Lopez tweeted.

“H-Town Blue” is identical to the Oilers’ Columbia Blue jerseys they wore from 1975-96, and even for their two seasons thereafter as the “Tennessee Oilers” until the Titans name change in 1999.

The Houston Rockets have a version with Columbia Blue called the “city edition” and even the Astros have worn a similar color scheme.

Adding a color dear to Houston sports fans would connect the two franchises while also continue to entangle the AFC South rivalry with the Titans.

Houston Texans continue their due diligence in changing uniforms

The Houston Texans provided a sneak peak at how they are changing their uniforms. Here is what @bigsargesportz learned.

HOUSTON — On Thursday, Houston Texans Chairman and CEO Cal McNair and senior vice president of marketing and communications Doug Vosik gave selected media members a sneak peek of the uniform changes they submitted to the NFL for 2024.

The franchise implored the thoughts and opinions of the fans and the community throughout the season to get a natural feel for the change.

“We knew that it was time for a change, and we want to make sure that the fans and players are an intricate part of that change,” said Vosik. “We listened what was being said in the locker room and also on all social media platforms and knew that we were on the right track.”

No details of the Texans’ uniform changes can be made public because they are still in the developmental stage. Still, from what the Texans Wire was able to observe, it was apparent that the team to a very active listening approach.

In September, McNair acknowledged to fans during a question-and-answer event held through Reddit that the team had planned on exploring new changes for 2024.

“We have already engaged the NFL to better understand the process to formally start a fan research study and the timeline and guidelines if the fan research steered towards change. No promises, but we will challenge everything, and we won’t be afraid to evolve,” said McNair.

The Texans received a very energetic response to their Battle Red helmets and uniforms they debuted against the Philadelphia Eagles in a primetime game on Thursday Night Football in Week 9.

Fans were also very enthusiastic when limited edition “H-Town” gear was made available in the team store in different variations of colors.
