Eagles’ QB Carson Wentz heads to locker room to be evaluated

Carson Wentz leaves game vs. Seahawks to be evaluated

Philadelphia’s worst fears have been realized again, as quarterback Carson Wentz was forced to leave the teams game against the Seahawks to be evaluated.

It appears Wentz may have suffered a hand injury on the botched handoff between him and Miles Sanders that led to a Seattle fumble recovery and return. Josh McCown will enter the game for Wentz if he misses any plays.

Update

Wentz has returned to the field and is trying to work through his discomfort.

Eagles’ Jordan Howard, Nelson Agholor unlikely to play vs. Seahawks

Jordan Howard, Nelson Agholor unlikely to play vs. Seahawks

The Philadelphia Eagles promoted Greg Ward to the active roster and it looks like the former college quarterback will get his shot during a regular-season game. Adam Schefter of ESPN.com is reporting that both running back Jordan Howard and wide receiver Nelson Agholor, are expected to miss Sunday’s home matchup with Seattle.

It will be the second straight missed game for Howard who has been dealing with a “stinger”, while Agholor has been dealing with a knee injury suffered in last Sunday’s loss to New England.

Jay Ajayi is expected to see an increased role in Howard’s absence, while Ward and JJ Arcega-Whiteside will try to fill in for Agholor on the outside and in the slot.

Philadelphia Eagles land on ESPN’s list of most improved defenses

The Philadelphia Eagles defense was criticized and battered during the first of the NFL season, but over the past four weeks, the Birds have gotten healthy and seemed to have found their rhythm.

With Jalen Mills and Ronald Darby healthy, the Eagles defense is among the best in the NFL over the past three weeks. According to ESPN.com, the Birds meteoric improvements as a defense have landed them on a list of the most improved defensive units.

8. Philadelphia Eagles
2019: -7.2% (6)
2018: 0.0% (15)
Gain: -7.2%

It’s a modest improvement, but the Eagles have gone from a 6.7% pass defense DVOA last year (15th) to -0.5% pass defense DVOA this year (12th). They’ve blitzed a bit more than they used to under Jim Schwartz, currently at 27.2% per SportsRadar, as compared to a league-low 16.0% in 2018.

The Birds have improved with the return of Jalen Mills and Ronald Darby to the secondary. Two other additions, Rudy Ford and Pass rusher Genard Avery, have also helped spur on the Eagles’ newfound defensive success.

Eagles Final Injury Report: 2 starters ruled out for game vs. Seahawks

The Philadelphia Eagles will be without a key starter in their huge home matchup with the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. The Eagles released their final injury report, with Lane Johnson listed as out for the contest.

Nelson Agholor (knee), safety Rudy Ford (abdomen) and Johnson (concussion) were not at practice. Eagles wide receiver Alshon Jeffery (ankle) and linebacker Nigel Bradham (ankle) were at practice and should be game-time decisions.

Rookie Andre Dillard will make his first career start at right tackle.

Jordan Howard hasn’t been cleared for contact and could miss his second straight game. Howard suffered a shoulder injury in the win over the Chicago Bears on Nov. 3, which was described as a “stinger”.

Eagles Injury Report: Alshon Jeffery limited; Lane Johnson among 3 that DNP

The Philadelphia Eagles released their Thursday injury report and Lane Johnson was again among three players who did not practice. Nelson Agholor missed his second straight practice with a knee injury, while Rudy Ford also did not participate.

Nigel Bradham (ankle) got in a full practice, while Jordan Howard, Jeffery and Jason Peters were limited participants.

Johnson left the Eagles’ loss to the Patriots with a concussion and he’s still in the concussion protocol and had not been cleared for practice on Thursday. Andre Dillard could get his first start at right tackle if Johnson can’t go.

The quarterbacks will be the star of the show, with Russell Wilson sitting as an MVP candidate and Carson Wentz looking to return to his 2017 form. Wilson currently leads the NFL with a 114.9 passer rating and 23 touchdown passes on the season.

Doug Pederson provides an update on Alshon Jeffery, Jordan Howard, and Lane Johnson

The Philadelphia Eagles are set to practice on Wednesday and head coach Doug Pederson provided an update on his injured offensive stars.

As the Eagles defense gets healthy, players on the offensive side of the ball are banged up.

On Alshon Jeffery, Pederson stated that the wideout is expected to take part in individual drills, but won’t take part in any teamwork due to an ankle injury he suffered in the team’s win over the Chicago Bears.

Howard still isn’t cleared for contact and is expected to take part in individual work but no team drills.

Lane Johnson is still in the concussion protocol and Andre Dillard will take reps at the right tackle position.

Former Eagles star says Doug Pederson is to blame for Carson Wentz’s Struggles

Tra Thomas believes Doug Pederson is the reason Carson Wentz is struggling.

Anytime the Eagles struggle or lose, the blame usually falls at the feet of quarterback Carson Wentz. For the franchise’s star signal caller, criticism comes with the big contract and Wentz has been getting a ton of it lately.

One former Eagles legend is placing the blame on head coach Doug Pederson, though.

During his morning radio show with co-host Marc Frazetta, Tra Thomas, one of the greatest left tackles in franchise history (behind Jason Peters), blamed Wentz’s struggles and regression on Pederson.

“When I watch him on tape, I see him only looking to one side of the field, it tells me he’s taught that way,” Thomas said on 97.5 The Fanatic.

Wentz has had a penchant for staring down targets since his days at North Dakota State, but from Thomas’ viewpoint, Pederson gets paid to correct bad habits.

This season, Wentz has completed 210 of 343 passes (61%) for 2,274 yards and 16 touchdowns with four interceptions. He’s struggled as of late, but he’s the least of the Eagles’ problems.

Jalen Mills making his case to be Eagles’ highest-paid CB

Jalen Mills deserves to be Eagles highest-paid CB

[jwplayer dI8cV591]

Jalen Mills is proof that a great attitude and the ability to leave the bad plays in the past, can be the recipe for lasting success in the NFL.

Mills isn’t the tallest cornerback on the team, he’s not the fastest and has a penchant for biting on out and up plays. But since his return from injury, the Eagles secondary has taken on a different look and attitude.

Against Tom Brady and the Patriots on Sunday, Mills was targeted nine times by Tom Brady.

He gave up just three completions for 11 yards, including a breakup of a deep ball intended for wide receiver Julian Edelman.

Mills and Ronald Darby are without a doubt the Eagles two most talented cornerbacks and with the duo back in the fold from injuries, Philadelphia has held their last three opponents to 5.1 yards per attempt.

Mills can be free agents at seasons end, and Howie Roseman would be smart to lock up the cornerback while allowing Darby to test the waters.

In four games since returning from injury, Mills has given up 172 total yards, has a completion percentage of 50%, with opposing quarterbacks having a QBR of 57.4 per Pro Football Reference.

Mills definitely deserves to get paid and according to Over The Cap, the Eagles cornerback isn’t in the top-100 of paid players at his position.

The Eagles could address the position through the draft as well, but with Rodney McLeod set to be a free agent and Malcolm Jenkins nearing the end, safety could be a priority in the draft as well. Rasul Douglas and Cre’von LeBlanc both have just one year remaining on their deals and second-year cornerback, Avonte Madoxx is the only cornerback on the roster signed through next year.

With 2017 second-round pick Sidney Jones and Darby likely to walk at seasons end, re-signing Mills becomes even more of a priority.
