Tyler Lockett talks to Richard Sherman about why Seahawks WRs are underrated

Tyler Lockett was the guest on Richard Sherman’s podcast yesterday

Seahawks wide receiver Tyler Lockett was a guest on Richard Sherman’s podcast yesterday.

When Sherman asked Lockett why he and DK Metcalf don’t seem to get as much love as other elite wideouts, Lockett brought up the great Doug Baldwin, who was also criminally underrated in his time.

“Yeah, I really don’t know why, bro. It’s one of those things where ever since I got here, I mean even when you were here, like Doug didn’t get any love, too. You know, and Doug was phenomenal at everything he did, the releases, being able to catch the ball. I don’t know if it’s just kind of a Puget Sound thing out here, that a lot of people don’t get the chance just to be able to watch us, but I mean I’ve kind of come to a place man, where I’ve accepted the fact that the best I might ever be in people’s minds is underrated, and I mean, that’s okay, because it seems like underrated is the most consistent thing they can say…”

Ex-Seahawk Doug Baldwin is on the Washingon State Clemency and Pardons Board

Doug Baldwin has a fascinating career now that his football life is over

One of the more interesting players to don an NFL uniform currently has a fascinating position outside football.

Former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin Jr. is one of the members of the Washington State Clemency and Pardons Board.

The Seattle Times did a fascinating story on how Baldwin will play a role in the fate of six current prisoners.

“He’s big on finding solutions that aren’t just all one track,” said Anthony Powers, the reentry program director for the Seattle Clemency Project, which Baldwin has worked with in recent years. “People want police reform, but then it’s like ‘they’re going against police.’ He’s more like, let’s work with police and the community to find something that works.”

Baldwin doesn’t necessarily view his four-year term on the Clemency and Pardons Board as a continuation of his criminal legal reform work.

“This is also an opportunity for me to learn more and get really into the weeds of how these systems actually operate,” he said.

Baldwin also runs an impact investment fund and is CEO of Ventrk, a health and wellness software company. He is aware of the serious nature of making these board determinations.

“You’re making a decision based on, is this person willing to acclimate back into society and be a productive member of society,” he said. “I firmly believe in second chances. I firmly believe in third, fourth, fifth chances. We’re all human, we all make mistakes, we all do things we’re not proud of, but it’s how do you recover from those situations.”

KJ Wright: Accountability ‘wasn’t even’ for Seahawks early in Russell Wilson’s career

Watch now-retired linebacker KJ Wright confirm the long-standing rumor that Pete Carroll’s staff coddled Wilson early in his career compared with the Legion of Boom.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll has admitted that Monday night’s win over Russell Wilson and the Broncos was “meaningful” for him. Odds are it will go down as one of the most famous games in history – and not just for this franchise. Clearly, NFL fans found the allure of Wilson facing his former team a compelling one, as ESPN earned the highest ratings for any Monday night game since the 2009 season.

While some people may be surprised by the negative reaction Wilson received, the truth is that he’s always been a polarizing character for this team – especially when they were at their best. The crux of it seems to be the divide between Wilson when he was still developing and a defense that was the most-dominant on the planet.

Watch now-retired linebacker KJ Wright confirm the long-standing rumor that Pete Carroll’s staff coddled Wilson early in his career compared with the Legion of Boom.

It’s clear Wright’s feelings towards Wilson are not bitter the way it seems to be for some of their former teammates. That gives him more credibility when he speaks to these things.

Meanwhile, other former Seahawks like Richard Sherman and Doug Baldwin clearly relished watching Wilson lose.

Mina Kimes: ‘Of course’ Seahawks fans are booing Russell Wilson

Watch Mina Kimes explain why nobody should be shocked by this development.

Russell Wilson will probably retire with the Seahawks one day and all this ugliness will be long forgotten. For now, Seattle’s former franchise quarterback is public enemy No. 1 based on the reaction he got from the crowd at Lumen Field on Monday night. While it’s not a surprise to anyone who’s been following the story the last few years, a lot of pearls are being clutched by sports media over Wilson’s treatment.

Seahawks receivers D.K. Metcalf, Tyler Lockett share support for women

The news brought on protests nationwide as well as widespread condemnation from professional athletes, including a few Seahawks players.

The Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade yesterday, a federal law that enabled women to get abortions legally. That is now left up to individual states, many of which are already adopting laws restricting that right.

The news brought on protests nationwide as well as widespread condemnation from professional sports teams and athletes, including a few Seahawks players. Here’s what receivers Tyler Lockett and D.K. Metcalf shared.

The wisest man we know is former Seattle receiver Doug Baldwin, who shared some thoughts that coincide with his faith.

Earlier this week the Supreme Court also struck down a New York law that restricted concealed carry, making it easier for anyone acoss the U.S. to carry a handgun.

However you feel about either issue, the court’s decision to take away the rights of some while enabling them for others is a very bad development for a nation that is already divided.

Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett enjoyed this Twitter joke about Pete Carroll

If there is a saving grace for this sewer of lies it’s the dark sense of humor that many users have adopted

NFL news tends to break on Twitter first, so a lot of us spend our days scrolling the app as part of our jobs. Whether you like it or not, non-football-content tends to find its way onto your timeline. The rest of the posts on the site can usually be broken down into five main categories: news presented in a dishonest fashion, bad-faith political arguments, mean-spirited trolling, naked racism and jokes stolen from other accounts.

If there is a saving grace for this sewer of lies it’s the dark sense of humor that many users have adopted, no doubt influenced by the content there. A genuine out-loud laugh (no, typing out LOL doesn’t count) at the end of a long day of doomscrolling can do a lot of good.

Since this past week has been harder on most of us than usual, we figured we could all use a little bit of levity. This joke we found this morning about Seahawks coach Pete Carroll is pretty wholesome by Twitter’s standards.

Wide receiver and hopefully new offensive captain Tyler Lockett certainly found it funny.

The best jokes always have a ring of truth to them and this one definitely meets the criteria.

Over the years, coach Carroll has invited a wide cast of slick characters to speak at VMAC.

On the awesome side there was former Bulls sharpshooter and current head coach Steve Kerr, who has led his Warriors back to the NBA Finals without Kevin Durant after a few years’ absence. In addition to being a five-time world champion as a player, Kerr is maybe the most innovative basketball coach to come along in decades. He also understands far better than most what’s wrong with our country and isn’t afraid to speak his mind about it.

On the less attractive side of the ledger, Carroll has also invited some true morons to speak to the Seahawks – most notably the famous bigot Jordan Peterson, who recently fled Twitter with no apparent sense of irony as he complained about getting insulted on the platform.

Anyway, in case you can’t tell keeping our focus exclusively on football is pretty difficult for us right now.

Our staff here at Seahawks Wire is feeling profoundly saddened by the recent shooting tragedies in Uvalde, Texas and Buffalo, New York.

Fortunately, this is one of the slowest times of the year for NFL news. Things will pick up again soon and we hope to be in a better place to provide you with that content.

For now, it feels fundamentally wrong to try to avoid talking about the elephant in the room. Something has to change this time because we cannot allow these mass-murders to keep happening.

We understand a lot of fans want to read about football as a way to escape the world around them but to hide our heads in the sand as children are slaughtered regularly while no significant effort to stop it is underway is too much to ask.

This particular tragedy feels different because it has revealed so many of the ways that our society is fundamentally broken.

At the top of the list is the fact that the killer was allowed to legally purchase military-grade weapons at his age. Speaking as someone who was once a troubled 18-year old kid, I can’t imagine a more dangerous combination and that concern is bared out by the numbers on mass shooting incidents, which are by and large perpetrated by unstable young men.

At a minimum, this outrage has to motivate us to move the age of legally buying guns at the national level up to 21 years old or better yet 43.

The Seahawks reporter who understands this best is Gregg Bell of the News Tribune, who is an army veteran and has extensive experience with these types of firearms. Here’s what he has to say on the subject.

Whatever we do, we can no longer accept hollow statements from our elected leaders.

For better or worse, this time something has to change.

We leave you today with this biblical wisdom from former Seattle wide receiver Doug Baldwin.

We hope you have a safe holiday weekend with your loved ones. Take care of eachother.

Seahawks legend Doug Baldwin weighs in on 2022 NFL draft class

We’d love to know if Baldwin sees any of shades of his own game in any of these prospects, particularly seventh-round pick Bo Melton.

The Seattle Seahawks went into the 2022 NFL draft playing by a different set of rules. Whether it was the influence of new associate head coach Sean Desai or a long overdue embrace of a modern approach to roster building, the team loaded up at several critical positions that impact the passing game.

Quarterback is at the top of that list. However, Seattle decided to pass on what’s supposed to be a weak class of them. Time will tell if that was the right decision or not, but the rest of the draft went about as well as anyone could have hoped for. While they took the obligatory detour to use an early pick on a running back, the Seahawks doubled up on highly-athletic prospects at offensive tackle, cornerback, EDGE and wide receiver.

It will take at least a couple of years to fairly evaluate these nine new faces and how they fit into the league. However, the front office deserves major brownie points for finally bringing their draft game into the 21st century.

For the most part, they have gotten high grades and a lot of acclaim for this draft class. NFL.com ranked Seattle’s class No. 6 out of 32 and Doug Farrar at Touchdown Wire gave them an A grade. The opinion we care most about in this industry belongs to a different Doug, though.

Last night Seahawks great Doug Baldwin weighed in:

That about settles it.

We’d love to know if Baldwin sees any of shades of his own game in any of these prospects, particularly seventh-round pick Bo Melton.

Baldwin famously went undrafted yet carved out a special career for himself. Meanwhile, the equally-undersized Melton was expected to be taken much earlier in the draft than he was.

Excluding the rare slam-dunk No. 1 overall pick QBs who are practically guaranteed to eventually figure things out in the NFL, nobody really knows how any prospect will fare at this level. We do know that the one thing that would help Melton get there is matching Baldwin’s determination. Taking his low draft position personally would be a good place to start.
