Donta Hall inks 10-day contract with Orlando Magic

The Orlando Magic has signed former Alabama MBB standout Donta Hall to a 10-day contract that could lead to a roster spot for the Crimson…

Former Alabama center Donta Hall has bounced around the NBA, playing on numerous G League teams and NBA rosters.

Today, the Orlando Magic announced they signed Hall to a 10-day contract.

Hall was a free agent at the time of his signing, but recently played for the G League Ignite and Rapters 905.

He played for the Detroit Pistons and the Brooklyn Nets in 2020.

Prior to signing with the Magic, Hall averageย 10.2 points, 8.3 rebounds and just over 2 blocks per game in the G League this season.

Ignite ‘extremely happy’ to see Donta Hall sign with Raptors

Hall signed a 10-day contract with the Raptors on Friday after a strong run with the Ignite in the G League.

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — When Donta Hall agreed to join the G League Ignite, head coach Brian Shaw knew the 23-year-old would eventually return to the NBA this season.

On Friday, that became a reality after the Toronto Raptors announced that they signed Hall to a 10-day contract following a strong run with the Ignite in the G League bubble. Hall will play some games with the Raptors 905 before joining the Raptors in Tampa.

“I’m very happy for him,” Shaw said on Friday. “That was the goal for our guys to get a call-up, to be able to go play for one of the big teams. We were extremely happy for him. We all found out last night and wished him well. He played well and deserved it.”

Hall, in nine games this season with the Ignite, averaged 8.9 points, nine rebounds and 1.8 blocks on 61.4% shooting from the field. He often helped provide defense in the paint and proved to be versatile on both ends of the floor.

When the Ignite were constructed, the thought was to surround the high-profile prospects, such as Jalen Green and Jonathan Kuminga, with a strong veteran presence. The team signed Hall to help influence those players and his impact was felt by those younger players.

“Man, I was happy for him,” Green said. “He be doing his thing every game, getting boards and getting buckets. I’m excited for him. That’s a big bro. I’ll be seeing him soon. He is for sure going to be missed but I’m excited for him. He is going to go do this thing.”

Hall played nine games in the NBA last season, four with the Detroit Pistons and five with the Brooklyn Nets. He will likely spend a good portion of his 10-day contract with the 905, on a tryout period of sorts, but it will be a great chance for him to get acclimated to the organization.

“A great opportunity,” Hall said. “(I’m) blessed. I thank the man above, for sure. (I want to) bring the energy, keeping going and hustling. Being that hard hat on the floor.”

Jamal Crawford remains unavailable for start of 2020 NBA Playoffs

Chris Chiozza and Donta Hall are both good to go for the Brooklyn Nets to start the 2020 NBA Playoffs.

Jamal Crawford has only been able to log five minutes while inside the Disney bubble thanks to a left hamstring strain he suffered in his Brooklyn Nets debut against the Milwaukee Bucks nearly two weeks ago.

Nets fans won’t see the veteran guard return to the floor on Monday. Brooklyn has ruled Crawford out for Game 1 of the Nets’ first-round matchup against the Toronto Raptors.

Chris Chiozza (right adductor tightness) and Donta Hall (right ankle sprain) missed the Nets’ final game of seeding play alongside Crawford. However, Chiozza and Hall were not included in Brooklyn’s status report update on Saturday leading up to the start of the 2020 NBA Playoffs.

The Nets and Raptors play the first game of the Eastern Conference portion of the 2020 NBA Playoffs on Monday at 4 p.m.

Caris LeVert, Joe Harris and Jarrett Allen removed from injury report

Chris Chiozza and Donta Hall may not be available for the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday against the Portland Trail Blazers.

After taking Tuesday’s game against the Orlando Magic off to manage their injuries, Caris LeVert, Joe Harris and Jarrett Allen were all removed from the Brooklyn Nets’ injury report on Wednesday ahead of the team’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Thursday.

Garrett Temple, who at out Tuesday’s game to get some rest, has also been removed from the status report.

However, Jamal Crawford will remain out with a left hamstring strain — and there have been other names added to Brooklyn’s injury report.

Chris Chiozza left Tuesday’s win over the Magic early with right adductor tightness. There has been no change in his diagnosis, and he is questionable against the Blazers.

Lastly, Donta Hall may not be available against the Blazers, either. He is questionable with a right ankle sprain.

Thursday’s game between the Nets and Blazers is the last seeding game for both teams. Tip-off is at 9 p.m.

Nets carrying chip on their shoulders after ‘everybody was laughing at us’

The Brooklyn Nets are playing with some attitude in the Disney bubble, and their record has shown as much.

Things got a little tense toward the end of Tuesday’s game between the Brooklyn Nets and Orlando Magic after Wes Iwundu fouled Jeremiah late, stared down the rookie and appeared to have a few words. That prompted Justin Anderson to step in to defend his Nets teammate.

Anderson was also there when Iwundu started chirping again as the final buzzer sounded. Now, the rest of the Magic didn’t seem interested in getting in a fight with Brooklyn, but that may have been the result of how firmly Anderson barked back at Iwundu.

And Anderson’s reaction shouldn’t come as a surprise for Nets fans, for no other reason that he and his Brooklyn teammates have shown in the Disney bubble they’re not taking guff from anyone. Whether it’s Anderson v. Iwundu, Donta Hall v. Giannis Antetokounmpo or just the Nets’ overall play against teams like the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Clippers, they’re tired of people thinking so little of them.

“Everybody was laughing at us saying the Nets were going to look like this and seeing things all over the internet saying we weren’t going to do this,” Jeremiah Martin said on Tuesday, per Brian Lewis of the New York Post. “So we just take that every day, every practice, keeping that chip on our shoulder, proving everybody wrong and showing everybody who we are.”

The question now becomes: how much can that chip do for the Nets against the Toronto Raptors in the first round of the 2020 NBA Playoffs?

Nets pull of huge upset against Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bucks

Timothe Luwawu Cabarrot and Garrett Temple took the reigns for the Nets on Tuesday, leading them past the Milwaukee Bucks.

No Caris LeVert, no Joe Harris, no Jarrett Allen — never mind no Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, Spencer Dinwiddie, DeAndre Jordan, Taurean Prince or Wilson Chandler.

Still, no problem for the Brooklyn Nets; even against the best team in the Eastern Conference, the Milwaukee Bucks.

Heading into Tuesday’s matchup against Giannis Antetokounmpo and company, Brooklyn’s go-to scoring options were Tyler Johnson and Jamal Crawford. Then the Nets lost Crawford after he gave them a quick boost in his five minutes of work.

Again, not a problem for the Nets. They managed to survive the Bucks, winning 119-116.

Brooklyn’s top scorer was, once again, Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot. The forward logged his second 20-point performance inside the bubble, finishing with 26 against the Bucks.

Garrett Temple finished second in scoring with 19 points, while Chris Chiozza logged the first double-double of his NBA career (10 points and 10 assists).

Johnson (11 points) Justin Anderson (11) and Kurucs (10) each finished in double figures, as well.

Donta’ Hall, who agitated Milwaukee’s Giannis Antetokounmpo (who only logged 16 minutes) at one point in the game, led Brooklyn with nine boards.

The Nets are back in action on Wednesday at 9 p.m. against the Boston Celtics.

Jamal Crawford to sit out Nets’ final Disney bubble scrimmage

Jamal Crawford won’t play in a game for the Brooklyn Nets until it counts.

Jamal Crawford’s Brooklyn Nets debut will not be made on Monday against the Utah Jazz.

Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn ruled the veteran guard out for Brooklyn’s final Disney bubble scrimmage on a Zoom call with reporters on Sunday, per Kristian Winfield of the New York Daily News.

Crawford has not appeared in an NBA game since April 9 of the 2018-19 season when he was a member of the Phoenix Suns.

After Monday’s scrimmage against the Jazz, Brooklyn won’t play again until Friday at 2:30 p.m. — their first seeding game, which will be against the Orlando Magic.

In addition to Crawford, Donta Hall will not be available for the Nets on Monday, per Winfield.

Hall did not have his first workout with the team until July 24, the day before Brooklyn’s 124-119 win over the San Antonio Spurs.

The Nets tipoff against the Jazz at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.

Jamal Crawford unavailable for Nets’ vs. Spurs

Two of the Brooklyn Nets’ substitute players will not be available when they face the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday.

Nets fans have to sit through at least one more game before they get to catch Jamal Crawford in a Brooklyn uniform.

Jacque Vaughn told reporters on a Zoom call on Friday that the guard — who Brooklyn signed as a substitute play for the resumption of the 2019-20 NBA season at Disney World — will be unavailable in the Nets’ scrimmage against the San Antonio Spurs at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, their second practice contest inside the bubble, per Alex Schiffer of The Athletic.

In addition to the veteran, Donta Hall will not be available for Brooklyn against the Spurs. Like Crawford, Hall did not play in the Nets’ first scrimmage.

However, Hall has as least finished up his quarantine, per Zach Braziller of the New York Post.

Tyler Johnson and Justin Anderson each sat out of Brooklyn’s first scrimmage, as well. Joe Harris also did, though Vaughn did not announce he would be unavailable ahead of the game against the New Orleans Pelicans.

Multiple Nets ruled out ahead of first Disney scrimmage

Jamal Crawford will not play in his first game in a Brooklyn Nets uniform on Wednesday.

It’s been a long road back to the court for the Brooklyn Nets. Even though everyone has been forced to deal with the stoppage in play, no team has lost as many players ahead of the Disney bubble as the Nets.

With Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving, Spencer Dinwiddie, DeAndre Jordan, Wilson Chandler Taurean Prince snd Nic Claxton out, Brooklyn had to bring in reinforcements.

But with the NBA set to start scrimmages tomorrow, it appears the Nets will be without some of their substitute players, if not all.

Nets head coach Jacque Vaughn told reporters on a Zoom call that Tyler Johnson, Jamal Crawford and Justin Anderson will not play against the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday, per Alex Schiffer of The Athletic.

Additionally, Donta Hall has not exited quarantine yet.

But, Lance Thomas may be available against the Pelicans.

Report: Justin Anderson signing with Nets

After spending significant time with the Nets’ G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets, Justin Anderson is back with Brooklyn.

Before the Nets signed Lance Thomas or Donta Hall, even before they were linked to Michael Beasley and Jamal Crawford, Brooklyn was reportedly considering Justin Anderson as a substitute player option.

But the Nets signed Beasley, Crawford and Hall first. Then Thomas emerged as a substitute player candidate, leaving Anderson’s status in question — even though he was in the bubble with Brooklyn.

Not long after Thomas signed with the team, it was reported Beasley had tested positive for COVID-19, left the bubble and his return was in question. Two days after the report of Beasley’s departure came, another surfaced indicating he wasn’t coming back — giving Anderson another opportunity to sign with the Nets.

And now Shams Charania of The Athletic is reporting Anderson is set to be a member of the organization once again.

Anderson last played for the Nets’ G League affiliate, the Long Island Nets, after logging three games for Brooklyn while on a 10-day contract.
