Nate Oats provides the latest on Dominick Welch’s injury status

Alabama head coach Nate Oats met with the media to discuss the injury status of guard Dominick Welch.

Alabama head coach Nate Oats spoke with the media on Thursday. He updated the injury status of shooting guard Dominick Welch and the possibility of him playing on Friday. “Doubtful, to be honest with you. He’s trying to get back to practice a little more, but it is coming slow,” he said.

The St. Bonaventure’s transfer was unable to play in the Tide’s opener against Longwood as he is nursing a lower-body injury. From the sounds of it, he will miss a little more time before making his Alabama debut.

Welch will add depth to Alabama’s bench, particularly the group of guards when he is able to return. He has experience and has proven that he is an elite shooter. Last season, Welch averaged 12.3 points per game while shooting 41.4% from the field for the Bonnies.

The fact that the Tide rolled their way to victory against Longwood without Welch and Jahvon Quinerly is a good sign. If the Tide can get healthy before the start of conference play, they could be a threat to win the SEC.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to follow Alabama basketball news.

Alabama Morning Drive: Nick Saban takes shot at Texas A&M, saying Aggies ‘bought every player’

The latest news and notes involving the Alabama Crimson Tide on Thursday morning.

Good morning, Alabama nation! Welcome back to our Thursday edition of Alabama Morning Drive! I hope everyone is having a good week as we inch closer and closer to the weekend.

It has been a fun-filled week here at Roll Tide Wire and we are excited to bring you, even more, news and notes involving the Crimson Tide this morning.

Late Wednesday night coach [autotag]Nick Saban [/autotag] nearly broke the internet with his remarks on NIL and Texas A&M. While speaking at an event in Birmingham, Saban did not hold anything back with his accusations against his former assistant Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies.

“You read about it, you know who they are. We were second in recruiting last year. A&M was first. A&M bought every player on their team. Made a deal for name, image and likeness. We didn’t buy one player. Aight? But I don’t know if we’re going to be able to sustain that in the future, because more and more people are doing it. It’s tough.”

Coach Saban didn’t stop there, he would continue to blast programs such as Jackson State and Miami for taking advantage of NIL.

“I mean, Jackson State paid a guy a million dollars last year that was a really good Division I player to come to school. It was in the paper and they bragged about it. Nobody did anything about it.”

“Those guys from Miami that are going to play basketball there for $400,000, that’s in the newspaper. The guy tells you how he’s doing it.”

This story will only continue to grow and progress throughout the day and Roll Tide Wire will be here every step of the way!

Let’s take a look at a few other stories that Alabama fans should be checking in on.

Alabama lands former St. Bonaventure guard Dominick Welch via transfer portal

Nate Oats and Alabama MBB picks up massive commitment through the transfer portal.

Nate Oats and the Crimson Tide are on a role in the recruiting trail, as today they landed former St. Bonaventure guard [autotag]Dominick Welch[/autotag] via the transfer portal. Welch is the seventh commit of the 2022 class, which also includes two McDonalds’ All-Americans. His commitment leaves only one more remaining scholarship for the 2022-2023 season.

Welch is a huge land for the Tide as he is a massive guard at 6’5, 205 pounds and is a threat from behind the arc. This past season for the Bonnies Welch averaged 12.3 points a game, 6.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists. He was also attempting nearly 7.5 three pointers a game which will mesh very well with the offense Oats and company are trying to run.

Ultimately, Welch decided to go with Alabama over the likes of Texas Tech and a few other schools. Welch combined with Quinerly will make for one of the most exciting back courts in all of collegiate hoops next season.

Wisconsin showing interest in St. Bonaventure transfer Dominick Welch

Wisconsin has reached out to an experienced wing in the transfer portal:

Greg Gard and his coaching staff have made a point to leave no stone left unturned in the transfer portal this offseason as they look to fill their two remaining scholarships.

On Friday afternoon, Jon Rothstein reported that Wisconsin was among a long list of potential suitors that had reached out to St. Bonaventure transfer wing Dominick Welch.

The 6-foot-5, 205-pound wing averaged 12.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 1.6 assists on 37% shooting from beyond the arc.

It’s also worth noting that the New York native has shot at or above 36% on three point attempts in all four seasons for the Bonnies.

Welch has also received interest from Pittsburgh, Texas Tech, Kansas, Oklahoma State, Wake Forest, Maryland, Rutgers and SMU.
