Dolly Parton delightfully interrupted the Georgia-Tennessee broadcast by singing off-camera

Dolly Parton singing during Brad Nessler’s game commentary is the kind of broadcast interruption we love.

The highlight of college football Saturday so far has been Dolly Parton singing “Rocky Top” at Tennessee to the Vols crowd, as the music icon went back home to celebrate her favorite football team.

Well, Parton’s delightful time at Tennessee also featured inadvertently singing the song during a break in her interview with CBS Sports’ Jenny Dell.

It also happened while CBS Sports broadcaster Brad Nessler was calling a play during Tennessee’s game against Georgia. So, as Nessler was talking, Parton was softly singing “Rocky Top” again for the folks at home.

Look, while some broadcast interruptions can be annoying, this one was quite literally the exact opposite. It’s the kind of charming coincidence that makes Parton one of our most beloved personalities.

Dell joked after the play that she felt like she had a personal concert from Parton while she was singing during the break, which is the kind experience most of us would dream to have at a Tennessee game.

This is the kind of broadcast magic that makes college football special, as viewers at home got to hear Parton sing and Nessler call a play at the same time.

Dolly Parton sang Rocky Top at the Tennessee game after Peyton Manning escorted her out

Dolly Parton being escorted out by Peyton Manning to sing “Rocky Top” at the Tennessee game is everything.

Dolly Parton is one of the most beloved people on the planet, and the legendary country artist went back home to perform for all the folks at Neyland Stadium on Saturday.

While Parton is from just outside Knoxville, Tennessee, in Sevierville, all Vols fans claim Parton as one of their own as she is one of the defining figures to come from that region.

Parton entertained folks at the Tennessee and Georgia game by singing the Vols’ fight song “Rocky Top” after the first quarter, with fellow Tennessee legend Peyton Manning escorting her out for the performance.

With Smokey the mascot dancing to the side and the “Pride of the Southland” band playing along, there was quite literally no way to make this more of a perfect Tennessee moment.

Hey, even if you’re not a Tennessee fan in the slightest, you’ve got to love Parton sporting the orange and white and singing one of the great fight songs in college sports for her home team.

Vols fans will always love Parton, and it is clear that she’ll always be a Tennessee fan.

Check out some photos from her performance below.

“The Kansas City Chiefs can have Taylor Swift all they want, we’ll take Dolly Parton on Saturday.”

10 outrageous Dolly Parton covers that don’t exist but definitely should exist

There’s nothing Dolly can’t do.

What else needs to be said about Dolly Parton? The woman can do it all — write, sing, act, run an East Tennessee tourism shempire — and when she’s not busy doing those things, she’s out here funding childhood literacy and life-saving vaccine research. Anyone foolish enough to say Dolly should stay in her lane doesn’t realize she built the whole damn road.

BUT. I. DIGRESS.

Dolly’s upcoming album, “Rockstar,” celebrates her ability to put her stamp on just about anything she chooses, featuring 30 rock covers and artist collaborations including “What’s Up?”, “Let it Be” and a powerful rendition of goddaughter Miley Cyrus’ 2013 hit, “Wrecking Ball.”

Her upcoming album got us thinking about other covers Dolly could easily make her own across all genres, and HOO BOY, did we take this way too far, per usual.

Why did a Wisconsin school cut a Dolly Parton-Miley Cyrus song from a first-grade musical?

“It was determined that ‘Rainbowland’ could be perceived as controversial.”

As the mom of a third-grader, let’s get this out of the way: There is NOTHING cuter than an elementary school musical. A bunch of kids onstage in fancy clothes singing and/or playing 100 out-of-tune recorders simultaneously at the same time ALL AT ONCE? It’s garbage! I love it!

For teachers, it takes a lot of time and behind-the-scenes effort to prepare students for these performances, which is why it’s surprising that a Wisconsin school district recently cut a song from an upcoming first-grade musical for being too controversial.

The scandalous song in question? A 2017 duet by Dolly Parton and Miley Cyrus titled “Rainbowland.”

And with lyrics like these, who could blame them?

Living in a Rainbowland
Where everything goes as planned
And I smile
‘Cause I know if we try, we could really make a difference in this world
I won’t give up, I’ll sleep a wink
It’s the only thought I think, you know where I stand
I believe we can start living in a Rainbowland

The nerve, the unmitigated GALL of these teachers trying to influence students to…change the world for the better.

Living in a Rainbowland
Where you and I go hand in hand
Oh, I’d be lying if I said this was fine
All the hurt and the hate going on here
We are rainbows, me and you
Every color, every hue
Let’s shine on through
Together, we can start living in a Rainbowland

*shudders* What’s next — TREATING OTHERS AS YOU WANT TO BE TREATED?

Wouldn’t it be nice to live in paradise
Where we’re free to be exactly who we are
Let’s all dig down deep inside
Brush the judgment and fear aside
Make wrong things right
And end the fight
‘Cause I promise ain’t nobody gonna win (come on)

Man, those kids have no idea how dangerous thoughts like this can be at their age. Being who you are? Accepting others for who they are? NOT HERE. NOT TODAY.

The school district never gave a specific reason for axing the song, but according to Melissa Tempel, a first-grade teacher at the school, the decision might have been because of Miley Cyrus. There’s no denying Cyrus has been a polarizing figure since she was a teenager, on and offstage. But is that enough to justify cutting a song that just wants the world to do better?

The school reportedly replaced “Rainbowland” with Kermit the Frog’s “Rainbow Connection,” another objectively great song about rainbows,  before cutting it for reasons unknown, then reinstating it after parents complained. (Pretty wild coincidence that two songs about rainbows were pulled from an elementary school musical!)

What I can’t and won’t let go of here is the apparent disregard for Dolly Parton. And yes, I absolutely mean that in a nobody messes with my queen and gets away with it kind of way, but let’s also take a minute and consider everything she’s done throughout her life to champion education, from her childhood literacy program to incentivizing teenagers to graduate high school to covering all college tuition, books and fees for her employees. She also gives out the annual (and aptly named) Chasing Rainbows Award to a teacher who’s overcome significant obstacles to serve their students.

And then there’s her music career!

If anything, we should be hearing MORE Dolly songs at these tiny-scholar concerts. (Except for “Jolene”…and “Islands in the Stream”…………..and maybe anything from “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas”….WHATEVER, MY POINT STANDS)
