The agency provided the following information to others who might find themselves in trouble on the water: “Call the USCG for help on VHF Ch. 16 or dial 911 for storm distress.”

Hurricane Helene had strengthened into an “extremely dangerous” Category 4 storm as it approached Florida’s northwest coast.

Heavy rain and flooding were occurring throughout the southeastern U.S. and potentially deadly storm surges are expected before and during landfall late Thursday in the Florida Big Bend region.

According to the National Hurricane Center, “Helene is expected to turn northwestward and slow down over the Tennessee Valley on Friday and Saturday.”

Rescue dog has plenty to say during rare orca encounter; video

Footage shows the 5-year-old mixed lab/retriever reacting to several Eastern Tropical Pacific killer whales swimming near the boat.

A pod of rarely seen orcas was a wonderful source of excitement for a group of San Diego whale watchers last Wednesday. But perhaps the most curious and enthusiastic member of the charter was a rescue dog named Fin.

The accompanying footage, captured by Domenic Biagini of Gone Whale Watching San Diego, shows a tethered Fin gazing intently at the orcas while expressing an apparent desire to leap overboard and greet them personally.

Bigaini imagined via Instagram how Fin might recall the encounter:

“Last week I got to meet the pod of Eastern Tropical Pacific Killer Whales that everyone was talking so much about last winter. As a lifelong HUGE fan of dolphins, it was such a treat to meet the biggest dolphins in the world!”

Fin added: “I told my dad that I wasn’t thrilled being confined to the middle part of the boat by two leashes, but my dad knew that I’d be a sea-puppy without those restraints! I just wanted a sniff!”

The orcas were so close that Fin began to bark, but was quickly calmed.

The 5-year-old mixed lab/retriever, found in poor condition near the U.S.-Mexico border, has developed excellent sea legs and eagerly accompanies Biagini on his charters.

Eastern Tropical Pacific killer whales, most commonly encountered off Mexico, occasionally venture into Southern California waters to hunt dolphins and other marine mammals.

Gone Whale Watching San Diego encountered the ETPs last Wednesday and observed the mammals until sunset as they began to swim back toward Mexico.

Watching this dog wearing an A’s hat getting booped on the nose at an Oakland game will make your day

We warn you: this video has overloads of cuteness.

During Tuesday’s Oakland A’s game against the Houston Astros, a very, very good dog stole the show in the stands with just one boop.

A very big, fluffy St. Bernard dog adorably wearing an A’s hat joined its owner in the Oakland stands for the game, which is fantastic enough on its own.

However, things got even more wonderful when the game broadcast showed owner of this very, very good dog booped the dog on the nose.

We warn you: the cuteness overload on this video might create a smile so big on your face you can’t get rid of it for the rest of your day.

There’s not much else to this video than this very good, good dog wearing an A’s hat getting booped on the nose by their owner, but isn’t that all you really need sometimes?

Meet Brodie, the very good dog who got a front-row seat to Game 7 of the 2024 Stanely Cup Final

This is the best Stanley Cup boy ever.

If you were watching Game 7 of this year’s Stanley Cup in Miami between the Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers, you might’ve noticed a big dog sitting right by the glass.

Who is that dog, you might ask? Have you seen this dog before? Well, as it turns out, you probably have.

The very good dog in question at Monday night’s Stanley Cup game is Brodie the Goldendoodle, who has attended sporting events in the past.

His Instagram (@brodiethatdood) stories on Monday showed that Brodie was indeed the dog sitting by the rink with his owner, taking in the exciting hockey festivities.

In fact, Brodie has gotten into a dance battle at a Los Angeles Lakers game while sitting courtside (in his owner’s lap).

No matter who won Monday night’s Game 7 for Lord Stanley’s Cup, it’s clear that Brodie is the real winner for being a very good boy.

Maybe someone will fill the Stanley Cup with water and let Brodie take a few drinks of it for being the best pup?

Rescue dog enjoys first look at blue whale, footage is ‘priceless’

During a voyage off San Diego, Fin is shown intently observing the massive whale at close range. What could be going through his mind?

A San Diego whale-watching captain this week shared a short but wonderful video clip showing a dog intently observing a surfacing blue whale.

“First Mate Fin reporting for whale-spotting duty!” Capt. Dom Biagini, owner of Gone Whale Watching San Diego, stated via Instagram.

Biagini added: “This is the first time I’ve taken Fin with me on a filming expedition, and he had a blast searching for all the wildlife.”

Blue whales, which can measure nearly 100 feet and weigh 200 tons, are the largest creatures on the planet.

The footage was captured by Erica Sackrison, also with Gone Whale Watching, and one can’t help but wonder what was going through Fin’s mind as the majestic leviathan revealed its massive fluke befor a deep dive.

Several Instagram followers chimed in with comments, including this from Sackrison:

“1. ‘You can swim under me any time now.’

“2. ‘I wonder if you taste like chicken.’ ”

Other observations:

–“So freaking cool. Go Fin!!!

–“This is everything! 💙💛”

–“Priceless…. What they must think as they slip back under.”

–“I wonder if he can hear them singing underwater.”

Biagini told FTW Outdoors that Fin is a 5-year-old mixed yellow lab/golden retriever that he rescued near the U.S.-San Diego border.

On Instagram, Biagini reflected on the evolution of Fin as a whale-watching companion:

“The first time I took Fin on the boat was when he was a puppy, and he promptly sprinted to the front of the boat and jumped off into the bay! 😂 We’ve come a long way since then!”

Orcas thrill beachgoers at Seattle park; even the dog is excited

Footage captured by Alyssa Slovinac at Golden Gardens Park shows the iconic mammals breaching just yards from shore.

Beachgoers at Seattle’s Golden Gardens Park on Saturday were thrilled when orcas began to breach just yards from shore.

The accompanying footage was captured by Alyssa Slovinac and shared via X by Madison Wade of King 5 News.

It begins with one orca leaping almost entirely out of the water and includes more breaching and other types of behavior.

“Oh … my god,” the videographer says in apparent disbelief.

Others express similar sentiments as gulls arrive and a dog begins to bark.

Orca sightings off Seattle are not uncommon, but it’s undoubtedly a rare thrill when the iconic mammals join your group on a morning walk.

Dog escapes attacking leopard, thanks to pet owner’s actions

Video from a home in India shows a leopard sneaking up on a dog, grabbing it and leaping off a balcony before its owner comes to the rescue.

A surveillance camera at a home in India captured footage of a leopard sneaking up on and attacking a dog lying on a rug on an outside balcony.

Video shows the leopard grabbing the dog, leaping off the balcony and trying to run off with it only to be foiled by the pet owner, whose screams and chase of the animal was enough to prompt the release of the dog.

Once it was freed from the leopard’s grasp, the dog quickly ran in the opposite direction.

The incident occurred on January 20 at 3:22 p.m. in the municipality of Coonoor, Tamil Nadu, according to Newsflare.

Owl swoops on dog, returns to attack owner in Massachusetts

The dog was uninjured but its owner suffered gash wounds to his head during the harrowing incident.

A Massachusetts man was attacked by an owl Monday night seconds after the raptor had swooped toward his dog.

Boston 25 News reported that Kenneth Wadness of Medfield suffered cuts to his head during the harrowing incident.

“This owl came and swooped right next to Micah and right by my elbow,” Wadness said. “He took off and I couldn’t see him [but] within 10 seconds he whacked me with his talons. He hit me in the back of my head.”

Wadness armed himself with a branch and carried his dog to his vehicle.

Andrew Vitz of the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife said the owl might have been protecting its territory as the birds are entering nesting season.

Vitz advised people to keep small pets inside at night.

Birds-of-prey attacks on pets are rare but sometimes occur.

In June 2022 a doorbell camera captured footage showing a bald eagle attempting to fly off with a pet Yorkie in Prince Rupert, British Columbia.

The footage shows the Yorkie crying out as a shadow appears overhead and the eagle swoops down to grab her from a porch. The eagle grabs but quickly releases the dog after banging into a container while attempting to take flight.
