Dillon Danis vows to retire Tony Ferguson ahead of GFL matchup

Dillon Danis plans to put the nail in the coffin of Tony Ferguson’s MMA career.

[autotag]Dillon Danis[/autotag] plans to put the nail in the coffin of [autotag]Tony Ferguson[/autotag]’s MMA career.

Danis (2-0), who is a part of GFL’s Team New York, takes on Team Los Angeles’ Ferguson (25-11) in a lightweight main event bout May 25 at Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

In his most recent outing, Ferguson suffered a UFC-record eighth consecutive loss when he was submitted by Michael Chiesa this past August. Danis aims to add to “El Cucuy’s” losing skid.

“I’m going to retire Tony Ferguson and bury ‘El Cucuy’ in the same grave as his win streak,” Danis told MMA Junkie in a text message Tuesday.

Danis was scheduled to face KSI in a 185-pound boxing match, slated to headline Misfits Boxing 21 on March 29 in Manchester, England. However, the bout was scrapped when KSI withdrew due to illness. The controversial jiu-jitsu practitioner hasn’t competed since boxing YouTube and WWE star Logan Paul in October 2023 – a fight he lost by disqualification.

His last MMA fight came in June 2019 when he submitted Max Humphrey at Bellator 222. While Danis is booked to face Ferguson in May, his in-cage return might come even sooner. In a recent interview on “The Ariel Helwani Show,” Mike Perry revealed that he said yes to replacing KSI against Danis, but in a Misfits-first MMA fight, which would likely take place in April.

“KSI is out, Dillon Danis wants to fight MMA,” Perry said. “I’m saying yes, so we have got to see what Mams (Taylor) is coming up with over there in Misfits, and they’re changing it completely because he was going to fight KSI in boxing. Looks like the date has changed a little bit but might not be too far away. So I said yes to fighting Dillon Danis in MMA, but they’ve got to come correct. It’s a last-minute call, so if they want to make the fight happen, let’s do it.”

Kevin Lee ‘in full training’ for potential GFL fight vs. Tony Ferguson, doubts Dillon Danis shows up

Kevin Lee says he’s in full training mode for a potential GFL fight against Tony Ferguson, as he doubts Dillon Danis will show up to fight.

MIAMI – [autotag]Kevin Lee[/autotag] has a feeling he’ll end up rematching [autotag]Tony Ferguson[/autotag] in a few weeks’ time.

Despite the two not having a booked bout, Lee thinks he’ll likely get the call to fight “El Cucuy” since he doesn’t see his opponent, [autotag]Dillon Danis[/autotag], showing up to their scheduled fight. GFL announced last month that Ferguson and Danis are set to meet in a lightweight bout at the inaugural event in May in Los Angeles. Lee has little faith that fight is happening.

“I don’t necessarily see that fight happening,” Lee told MMA Junkie. “I’m in full training right now. It’s Ramadan, so I’m fasting and training at the same time, and yeah, that’s the fight I think should happen, especially if they do it in L.A. or New York. But wherever they make the fight happen, I’m ready for it.”

Lee and Ferguson fought for the UFC interim lightweight title in 2017. In the UFC 216 main event in Las Vegas, Ferguson submitted Lee to win the belt. Since then, Lee has been wanting to run things back.

He fully expects Ferguson to be game for the first GFL event, but can’t say the same thing about Danis – which is why he sees his rematch possible.

“I get it. They want to get Tony a win,” Lee said regarding the Ferguson vs. Danis matchup. “I think that’s what it’s about, on top of kind of trying to capitalize on Dillon’s star. … It seems like Dillon never shows up to fight. He’s somebody who keeps his name in the media and does certain things that I don’t necessarily condone to keep his name in the media, but he never fights. He never shows up to fight.

“So is that Tony Ferguson fight going to happen? I seriously doubt it. They were saying he’s on Team New York. I’m on Team New York, and if that fight falls apart, I think it only makes sense that you make me and Tony again. That’s the fight that makes the most sense and the biggest fight GFL can put on.”

Misfits Boxing postpones KSI vs. Dillon Danis event for KSI illness

Almost as quickly as it suddenly was a thing again, KSI vs. Dillon Danis is back off. It’s veja du, Hawkhead.

Almost as quickly as it suddenly was a thing again, [autotag]KSI[/autotag] vs. [autotag]Dillon Danis[/autotag] is off. It’s veja du, Hawkhead.

The two were supposed to box in early 2023, but Danis (0-1) pulled out less than two weeks before the fight. This time, it’s KSI (4-1) who is out. The influencer boxer posted a video Friday to say he’s been sick for three weeks and he won’t be able to fight.

Because of that, Misfits Boxing announced Friday it has postponed the entire event, which was set for March 29 at Manchester Arena in England. The promotion said a new date will be announced next week.

In response, the typically brash Danis took aim at KSI in a social media post.

The X Series 21 “Unfinished Business” card was set to stream on pay-per-view through DAZN. It was to be contested at 185 pounds.

Danis has built a reputation for inactivity and withdrawals. Since his final Bellator MMA fight in June 2019, Danis has competed once in non-grappling contests. That appearance was an October 2023 exhibition boxing match against Logan Paul. Danis was disqualified in Round 6 for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Similar to Jake Paul in America, KSI has become a massive draw for influencer boxing in the United Kingdom. He’s competed in six exhibition boxing matches against a handful of influencers, as well as undefeated boxer Joe Fournier and journeyman Luis Alcaraz Pineda.

KSI has also competed twice professionally. He beat Logan Paul by split decision in his pro debut in 2019, then lost to Tommy Fury in October 2023.

Dillon Danis opens up on training with UFC champ Alex Pereira ahead of KSI boxing match

Dillon Danis has been prepping for his combat sports return with a UFC champion.

[autotag]Dillon Danis[/autotag] has been prepping for his combat sports return with a UFC champion.

Danis has spent time training with UFC light heavyweight champ [autotag]Alex Pereira[/autotag] ahead of his 185-pound boxing match vs. KSI, which headlines Misfits Boxing 21 on March 29 in Manchester, England.

Danis hasn’t competed since boxing YouTube and WWE star Logan Paul in October 2023. He lost the bout by disqualification. The 31-year-old described what it was like training with Pereira.

“I like to be in the pocket and throw,” Danis told Bloody Elbow. “That’s how me and Pereira have been sparring if you watch the footage. But these guys (KSI and Paul), they don’t want to engage. Run around the ring and circle, and KSI’s quality is doing star jumps or some sh*t.

“Alex is a beast. He’s one of the strongest people I’ve ever felt in my whole life. So I’m excited to see him f*cking knock out Ankalaev. I hate Dagestanis. Not all of them, but a lot if I’m honest. So Alex has shown me a lot, and he’s just a f*cking animal who I’m happy to train with.”

Pereira also spoke about training with Danis in a recent interview with Bloody Elbow.

“I think it’s a good fight, two big names,” Pereira said through an interpreter. “I trained with him today, and obviously he’s a different weight, he’s a different size than I am, and a different style, but he’s doing very well. He’s training with us, so I’m going to be rooting for him. I couldn’t say any different, but I’ll be watching the fight and hope he’ll win.”

Danis already has his next assignment set. He meets former interim UFC lightweight champion Tony Ferguson under the Global Fight League banner May 11 in Los Angeles.

“I don’t even have to train for this scrub, to be honest with you,” Danis said of KSI during Tuesday’s press conference in London. “I could beat him twice on Sunday. He’s easy. I don’t really care. I have a fight right after him with Tony Ferguson, who was actually a UFC champion. (KSI is) a way easier fight.”

KSI assures Dillon Danis won’t back out of Misfits boxing match this time

Due to the ongoing lawsuit with Logan Paul’s wife, KSI assures Dillon Danis won’t back out of their Misfits boxing match this time round.

[autotag]KSI[/autotag] was left hanging by [autotag]Dillon Danis[/autotag] in 2023, making him swear to never book a fight with the former Bellator fighter. And yet, now in 2025 the two are scheduled to box once again.

“No, it’s done,” KSI told Ariel Helwani in 2023 when asked if he’d try to book another fight with Danis. “F*ck him. F*ck Dillon. I hope everyone forgets about him, and he disappears into irrelevancy.”

KSI and Danis are scheduled to box in a 185-pound fight that will headline Misfits Boxing 21 on March 29 in Manchester, England. They were originally supposed to fight on Jan. 14, 2023, but Danis withdrew from the fight 10 days prior to the event.

This time around, KSI is confident that Danis will show up as the circumstances around Danis have changed.

“Well, I mean, he has to show up,” KSI said Tuesday at a press conference in London. “He’s getting sued by Logan Paul, so he needs all the money he can get. That’s one reason. And yeah, I mean, this guy is absolutely nothing. I already mentioned he was the fourth, fifth choice. I just don’t see him (pulling out).”

Danis fought YouTube and WWE star Logan Paul in October 2023. In the lead up to the fight, Danis posted dozens of photos of Paul’s wife, Nina Agdal, in an attempt to hype up the fight by criticizing Agdal’s past relationships.

In response, Agdal filed a lawsuit against Danis for “revenge porn” in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. The lawsuit is still ongoing.

On Danis’ side, he showed excitement for wanting to fight KSI but didn’t make any promises on showing up to the fight.

“You’ll just have to wait and see,” Danis said. “This is going to be an easy fight. You see the forehead on him, I’m going to be landing big shots on him. First time he’s taking off his bandana, he’s turning 32. I don’t know, I’m happy. I’m excited to punch on the head. I already hit him with a coffee. We were just doing the face to face, and he was quiet, scared sh*tless. I’m not worried at all. I can’t wait.”

KSI concluded their press conference by slapping Danis in the face with a pancake during the faceoff.

What did KSI’s five fingers say to Dillon Danis’ face? “SLAP!”

What did [autotag]KSI[/autotag]’s five fingers say to [autotag]Dillon Danis[/autotag]’ face? “SLAP!”

In what should come as a surprise to absolutely no one, KSI slapped Dillon Danis silly – with a pancake on Shrove Tuesday, otherwise known as Pancake Day, in the U.K. – during their first faceoff Thursday in London. The incident happened following a tense press conference to promote their Misfits Boxing match taking place March 29 in Manchester.

To the surprise of live-stream hosts Olivia Buzaglo and Dan Hardy, KSI and Danis were allowed to get up close with each other. At first, all was quiet as they exchanged words with each other quietly – until KSI pulled a page out of Dana White’s Power Slap and delivered a loud shot, causing security to immediately jump in and separate them.

You can watch the chaotic moment in the video above.

KSI vs. Dillon Danis set for Misfits Boxing match

Misfits Boxing is giving it another go as KSI and Dillon Danis will (allegedly) square off this spring.

[autotag]KSI[/autotag] and [autotag]Dillon Danis[/autotag] will square off in the ring this spring.

Misfits Boxing officially announced the matchup will take place March 29 at AO Arena in Manchester, England. The event titled “Unfinished Business” will stream on DAZN pay-per-view. It will be contested at 185 pounds.

It’s unclear how many rounds the bout is scheduled for, what weight it will take place at, or if the match is professional or exhibition.

KSI (4-1) and Danis (0-1) were initially supposed to fight in January 2023 in a six-round exhibition bout at 178 pounds. However, Danis withdrew from the bout 10 days prior and was replaced by gaming streamer FaZe Temperrr (Thomas Oliveira).

Misfits Boxing promoter Mams Taylor, who also manages KSI, said Danis was “underprepared” for the bout hence the pullout.

Dana White lukewarm on signing Dillon Danis to UFC deal, not a fan of outside-the-cage antics

While Dana White didn’t entirely dismiss the possibility of Dillon Danis fighting in the UFC, he also wasn’t too enthused about it.

UFC CEO [autotag]Dana White[/autotag] apparently isn’t a fan of [autotag]Dillon Danis[/autotag]’ antics.

White was asked about the possibility of Danis, who’s currently a free agent, joining the UFC. Danis, who hasn’t competed in MMA since June 2019, has openly said he would like the UFC to sign him to a deal.

While White didn’t entirely dismiss the possibility, he also wasn’t too enthused about it.

“I don’t know. Do you think he should be?” White said on a recent episode of the “Full Send Podcast.” I heard he just retired.”

White’s issue with Danis is the controversy he tends to stir. Danis was at the center of the infamous UFC 229 post-fight brawl following the main event between Conor McGregor and Khabib Nurmagomedov in 2018. After Nurmagomedov submitted McGregor, he jumped the fence to attack Danis, who was in McGregor’s corner, sparking chaos in and around the cage. Nurmagomedov was not happy with some of Danis’ words in the lead-up to the fight.

“The other thing with him is, and I have no beef with the kid at all – I’ve probably said two words to him in my whole life. But every time he’s around, sh*t’s going down,” White said. “We can’t have that stuff going on here. A lot of people will see when guys get into it on stage, they’re like, ‘Oh, they must love this’ or whatever. No, we don’t love it.

“We don’t need that sh*t to sell fights. And basically what happens is when that goes down, the athletic commission goes crazy and people start getting fined and for us, it’s our job to keep that sh*t under control.. That’s why, when you see these other events and see these guys and everything breaks out like that, it’s a total, unprofessional clown show.”

White also referred to Danis’ heated rivalry with Logan Paul ahead of their boxing match last month. Danis went after Paul’s fiancé, Nina Agdal, who ended up filing a lawsuit against him for sharing photos without her consent. Danis lost the exhibition match to Paul by disqualification.

In MMA, Danis, who entered the sport with a decorated Brazilian jiu-jitsu background, is 2-0 in two appearances with Bellator. He defeated Kyle Walker in April 2018 and Max Humphrey in June 2019 – both by submission. A serious knee injury derailed his progress but still at 30, there seemingly would be time for Danis to get back on track if he focused on MMA.
