Oregon lands commitment from 4-star Devon Jackson, No. 12 LB in nation

The Ducks picked up a major win ahead of the Stanford game on Saturday, landing 4-star LB Devon Jackson.

A couple of hours before kickoff against the Stanford Cardinal on Saturday, Mario Cristobal and the Oregon Ducks landed a big commitment from 4-star linebacker Devon Jackson.

Jackson is from Omaha, Nebraska, and is coming to Eugene as part of the 2022-23 class that is picking up steam in the national rankings. Jackson, a 6-foot-2, 200-pounder is rated as the nation’s No. 12 linebacker and No. 109 prospect overall. He is the No. 1 overall prospect in the state of Nebraska and will cap his prep career playing in the All-American Bowl.

The Ducks now are ranked as the No. 6 recruiting class in the nation for 2022, and No. 1 in the Pac-12 with the addition of Jackson.

A wrap up of the recruiting action from this past weekend for Notre Dame football.

It was quite a weekend for Notre Dame football, as the 2022 class added running back Jadarian Price (what to expect from him via the scouts view) and once again had plenty of offers out to top prospects.

Nebraska 2022 linebacker names Oklahoma among top five

2022 outside linebacker from Nebraska puts the Oklahoma Sooners in the top five schools. Devon Jackson is No. 2 in his state.

The Oklahoma Sooners have just one recruit currently committed to the defensive side of the ball for the 2022 recruiting cycle. Kobie McKinzie is a four-star inside linebacker from Lubbock Cooper. The Sooners very well could be closing in on yet another linebacker for the class. Recently a top 150 player in Devon Jackson released his top five schools for his recruitment. Jackson listed Oklahoma as the only Big 12 school in the running.

Jackson is the No. 2 rated player out of the state of Nebraska and No. 11 at his position according to 247Sports composite rankings. ESPN has him rated as high as the No. 5 linebacker in his class. They also have Jackson just outside the top 50 of their 2022 rankings, coming in at No. 51 overall and No. 1 in the state.

Defensive coordinator Alex Grinch could be gearing up to make a run at a player who could replace Nik Bonitto as the rush linebacker in his defense. The top-ranked returning pass rusher is a redshirt junior coming into the 2021 class and might opt for the NFL if he is as productive as he was in 2020. Jackson’s measurables are similar to Bonitto and you can never have too many rushers that can play outside linebacker.

Notre Dame Goes to a Familiar Place for Newest ’22 Offer

The Irish are back at Burke High School in Nebraska with their latest offer.

Defensive coordinator Clark Lea was busy yesterday, as Nebraska’s edge rusher Devon Jackson also added an offer. Lea offered Sebastian Cheeks on Friday also, and although they are in the same 2022 recruiting class, they do not play the same position.

Jackson uses his 6’2” and 200-pound frame differently than Cheeks does, lining up more on the edge of the defensive line instead of a more traditional linebacker. Jackson uses his speed to attack opposing offenses, while being a menace on special teams. Jackson looks skinny now, and once he adds on more weight, he will become a more complete player.

The Irish join instate Nebraska, Minnesota, Iowa, Arizona State and a few others vying for Jacksons commitment. Brian Kelly and his staff are very familiar with the Burke program, as incoming freshman WR Xavier Watts and Jackson were teammates. This could play big dividends for the Irish as they continue to look for their first 2022 commit.
