NEW: LSU lands top 2025 Louisiana offensive lineman Devin Harper

The Tigers’ loaded 2025 class continues to get better.

LSU is adding to its loaded 2025 recruiting class.

On Tuesday night, the Tigers secured the commitment of four-star interior offensive lineman [autotag]Devin Harper[/autotag]. The Shreveport Calvary Baptist Academy prospect ranks as the No. 3 prospect in Louisiana and the state’s top offensive line prospect in the 2025 class.

Harper ranks as a top 130 prospect nationally, and his commitment comes as little surprise. He had received three medium to high-confidence Crystal Ball projections in favor of LSU in recent days, including two high-confidence predictions on Tuesday morning.

At 6-foot-5, 300 pounds, he already has good size and could compete for early playing time along LSU’s interior offensive line beginning in 2025.

Harper’s commitment gives LSU 10 pledges in the 2025 class so far, which ranks first nationally per On3. With his addition, it also moved up one spot to second in the 247Sports composite rankings.

Tigers staffers visited with a pair of four-star Shreveport prospects on Thursday.

Two members of LSU’s coaching staff were in Shreveport on Thursday visiting with two of the top targets in the 2025 recruiting class.

Running backs coach/assistant head coach [autotag]Frank Wilson[/autotag] and quarterbacks coach [autotag]Joe Sloan[/autotag] ā€” who is currently the Tigers’ interim co-offensive coordinator ā€” spent time with four-star Calvary Baptist Academy offensive lineman [autotag]Devin Harper[/autotag], according to On3’s Shea Dixon.

The duo also visited Harper’s teammate and fellow top-200 prospect, four-star running back [autotag]James Simon[/autotag] during their time in North Louisiana.

Harper ranks as a top-130 prospect and the No. 3 player in Louisiana, per the 247Sports Composite. He recently released a top 10 that included the Tigers in addition to Ole Miss, Georgia, Texas Tech, Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi State, Alabama, Arkansas and Tennessee.

There are currently no Crystal Balls for Harper, but On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine has the Tigers as the hefty favorite over Ole Miss at 98.9%. The Tigers are also the favorites for Simon and hold a high confidence Crystal Ball prediction, which was placed in December.

Alabama lands in top 10 for 2025 4-star IOL Devin Harper

2025 four-star interior offensive lineman Devin Harper released his top schools list. Among the programs listed was the Alabama Crimson Tide.

The Alabama football program continues to receive huge news. Recently, 2025 interior offensive lineman Devin Harper released his top schools list. Among the programs listed was the Alabama Crimson Tide.

Harper plays for Calvary Baptist Academy in Shreveport, Louisiana. He is listed at 6-foot-5 and 300 pounds. There is the opportunity for Harper to play multiple positions at the college level. At this time, it is unclear what position the Alabama coaching staff is recruiting Harper to play.

Roll Tide Wire breaks down Devin Harper’s recruiting profile.

Bengals swipe LB Devin Harper from Cowboys off waivers

The Bengals make a roster move before Week 4.

The Cincinnati Bengals have claimed linebacker Devin Harper from the Dallas Cowboys.

According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, the Cowboys had hoped to move Harper onto the practice squad if he cleared waivers.

Clearly, that’s not happening, as the Bengals saw fit to place him on their 53-man roster.

Harper, a sixth-round pick by Dallas in 2022, appeared in three games as a rookie before going on season-ending injured reserve.

This move comes at a time that Bengals linebacker Akeem Davis-Gaither keeps popping up on the injury report, so it might be insurance related to that consistent storyline for the defense so far.

The Athletic’s Jon Machota noted how the Cowboys wanted to keep Harper:

The Bengals placed rookie wideout Charlie Jones on injured reserve to make room.

3 things to watch for in Cowboys preseason finale vs Raiders

Preseason games are meaningless in the record books, but not to the coaches, front office, and many Dallas Cowboys players. | From @cdpiglet

By this time in the preseason, NFL teams have most things figured out and are simply preparing for the start of the regular season. The Dallas Cowboys have likely already answered most of their own questions regarding the 53-man roster.

They know which veterans they can cut now to bring back later so they can protect and stash a young prospect like pass rusher Isaiah Land or offensive guard T.J. Bass. The coaches understand who not to play to protect them for the games that matter. Seeing them a few extra snaps would not be worth the risk of injury in the coaches’ minds.

Even though 90% of the questions might be answered, the last preseason game still has the ability to answer a few outstanding ones. A handful of roster spots are still in question, and the team could want to see someone in a different role. Here are some of things fans should watch for when the Cowboys take on the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday.

3 Cowboys to watch closely in preseason opener vs Jaguars

To make the team they’ll need to be valuable on special teams, but these three players want much more out of the 2023 season. | From @cdpiglet

Preseason action hasn’t been the place for the Cowboys to prepare their starters for the regular season since Mike McCarthy arrived, Rather it’s used to evaluate the bottom of the roster to find the 53 guys they want on it. Dallas is unlikely to play stars like Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, Trevon Diggs, or Micah Parsons much across the three-game slate, but especially on Saturday against Jacksonville.

Instead, Cowboys coaches are trying to figure out are who are going to be the running backs behind Tony Pollard, the fifth and sixth receivers, the fifth linebacker, and the defensive backs spots from eight on up.

A key to those battles could come down to compromises between special teams coach John Fassel and the coordinators. Here are some key players looking to go from special teams contributors to impact players on offense and defense.

Sooners offer 4-Star 2025 offensive lineman Devin Harper

The Sooners continue to make moves with the 2025 recruiting class, this time offering a highly sought after offensive lineman.

The Oklahoma Sooners continue to make impressive waves early for the [autotag]2025 recruiting class[/autotag]. Theyā€™ve already had several commitments, and a few more seem to be on the way soon.

While the 2024 class hasnā€™t been too kind to the Sooners on the offensive line, the 2025 class expects to be a great one. It is filled with elite recruits in the Sooners’ area.

One player just outside of the Sooners’ main recruiting area is from Shreveport, Louisiana. [autotag]Devin Harper[/autotag] is a 6-foot-5 300-pound offensive lineman.

He plays multiple positions but with that size, heā€™s most likely going to be a guard for the Sooners although he could play some tackle. Harper is also a multi-sport athlete. He competes in the discus and posted sophomore discus throws of 113-3 and 106-8 in Spring 2023.

Heā€™s a player that will need to develop but thereā€™s not anyone else out there thatā€™s better fit to do that than [autotag]Bill Bedenbaugh[/autotag].
