QB Deshaun Watson makes brief appearance at Texans’ practice

Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson made an appearance at training camp practice at Houston Methodist Training Center.

Deshaun Watson, the estrange quarterback of the Houston Texans, made a brief appearance during Thursday’s practice at the Houston Methodist Training Center. Watson took part in a 45-minute individual work on the rehabilitation field — alongside teammates Marcus Cannon and Lane Taylor. Thursday marked the first time Watson appeared at practice in a week.

Despite missing the last seven days, Texans’ coach David Culley said Tuesday morning that the three-time Pro Bowler has been working behind closed doors.

“Deshaun is here,” Culley said “Every day he comes in and works. He does what we ask of him, and he is doing fine. Each day we have a [schedule] for him, and we got done what we needed to get done on yesterday.”

Watson’s trade request from late January is still active, as is his pending litigation as a defendant in a lawsuit wherein 22 women have alleged sexual assault.

QB Deshaun Watson missing Texans practice due to foot injury

Quarterback Deshaun Watson is missing his first practice of Houston Texans training camp as he deals with a foot injury.

Quarterback Deshaun Watson was not present at the sixth Houston Texans training camp practice on day seven of camp at Houston Methodist Training Center.

According to Aaron Wilson of Sports Talk 790, Watson is out with a foot injury. The three-time Pro Bowler had his foot checked out after Monday’s practice, and his absence is merely precautionary, not considered serious.

Coach David Culley was asked in his Monday post-practice pressers with reporters whether Watson would be in pads.

“Nothing has changed,” Culley said. “Nothing has changed.”

Watson has been in a protracted standoff with the organization that began with his trade request in late January. The former 2017 first-round pick from Clemson skipped out on all of the team’s eight-week offseason program, including all 10 organized team activities sessions. Watson is also involved in pending litigation involving 22 women accusing him of sexual assault.

Houston Texans defensive end Whitney Mercilus showed support for quarterback Deshaun Watson after the third day of training camp at Houston Methodist Training Center.

Mercilus was presented with the question of how the team is able to compartmentalize the complex situations with Watson and continue with their preparations for the 2021 season.

“With Deshaun, that’s my guy,” Mercilus said. “I love him to death. Hate what’s happened to him, and praying for him everyday honestly. And, man, you know, everything is going to sort itself out. God got it. I know that for a fact.”

The Texans are in the midst of cultivating their identity as they work through the first week of training camp. Watson was absent for the entire eight-week offseason program, including 10 organized team activities sessions, and his trade request from late January is still in effect.

Regardless of how the organization and Watson see one another, Watson and his current teammates still have a level of admiration and respect for each other.

WATCH: Texans QB Deshaun Watson arrives at day 1 of training camp

Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson took to the practice field for the first day of 2021 training camp at Houston Methodist Training Center.

Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson showed up for day one of training camp at Houston Methodist Training Center.

Ahead of practice, general manager Nick Caserio met with the media and said that he wouldn’t get into too much regarding the Watson situation.

“I would say my comments about that are he reported for training camp the other day,” Caserio said. “I know the league put out a statement and made some comments about where they are in that process. I think from our perspective it’s a day-to-day endeavor. We’re going to take the information. We’re going to process that and respectful of everything and everybody that’s involved, take it one day at a time, and ultimately we’re going to do what we feel is best for the Houston Texans.

“I’m sure there will be some speculation as to what the Texans will do, a lot of different scenarios. Quite frankly, I mean, a lot of it is speculation. I’m not going to comment on a bunch of rumors, what we’ve done, what we’re going to do, what the plan is. That’s not what I’m going to do. That’s not my responsibility. The reason I was brought here by the McNair family was to do what I feel is best for the Houston Texans organization on a day-to-day basis, and that’s my responsibility to ownership and that’s my responsibility to players and that’s my responsibility to the coaching staff. So, that’s how we’re going to handle it.”

When Watson arrived on the field, safety Lonnie Johnson greeted him.

Watson warmed up with quarterbacks Tyrod Taylor, Jeff Driskel, and rookie Davis Mills to start off practice.

Watson’s trade request is still active. The three-time Pro Bowler initiated the trade request in late January. In that span, Watson has been named as a defendant in a lawsuit wherein 22 women allege he committed sexual assault.

NFL says investigation of Texans QB Deshaun Watson still ‘ongoing’

The NFL released a statement wherein they declared the investigation into Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson is still ongoing.

The NFL released a statement on Tuesday declaring that they are still investigating Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.

Watson remains a defendant in a lawsuit wherein 22 women have accused him sexual assault. Two women, not involved in the lawsuit, have also filed charges against him with the Houston Police Department.

The league says the investigation into Watson is still ongoing, and that he is not precluded from taking part in team activities.

“The NFL’s review of the serious allegations against Deshaun Watson remains ongoing and active,” the statement read.

“We are working cooperatively with the Houston Police Department and ensuring that the NFL’s inquiry does not interfere with their investigation.

“As we continue to gather additional information and monitor law enforcement developments, we will make appropriate decisions consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement and the Personal Conduct Policy.

“At this time, there are no restrictions on Watson’s participation in club activities.”

The Texans kickoff training camp Wednesday with a practice at 9:00 a.m. Central Time.

What would the Texans trading Deshaun Watson to the Eagles look like?

The Philadelphia Eagles are one of the teams in the running for Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson. What would a trade package look like?

The Philadelphia Eagles are one of the teams that is favorable to land Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson in a potential trade.

Although Watson has reported to Texans training camp, the reality is he is still adamant with his trade request from January and seeks a departure from the organization that drafted him in the first round in 2017 from Clemson.

According to Mike Kaye from NJ.com, if the Texans sent Watson to the Eagles, the package would include premium picks and also starters.

Once the legal problems are cleared, a more reasonable price would be two first-round picks and a pair of starting-level players. Eagles fans will rush to add former first-round picks Andre Dillard and Derek Barnett and disgruntled tight end Zach Ertz to any deal, but the Texans likely will want better players. A package that includes Hurts, Ertz and former All-Pro defensive tackle Fletcher Cox shouldn’t be discounted.

Ertz would definitely upgrade the tight end position and Cox would provide the talent at defensive tackle to transform Lovie Smith’s new Tampa 2 scheme into a force opposing offenses don’t want to face. Jalen Hurts would provide competition for not only third-round rookie quarterback Davis Mills but also Tyrod Taylor. Houston would have a young quarterback who went 1-3 last year, but could have upside to take over as the starter.

Kaye mentions that the Eagles trading for Watson comes with two prerequisites, and they both involve Watson’s involvement as a defendant in a lawsuit wherein 22 women allege sexual assault. Philadelphia should only get involved if a settlement is reached and if the Eagles’ own investigations into the allegations conclude that there are no more surprises on the horizon.

The Texans hold their first training camp practice Wednesday at Houston Methodist Training Center. The practice will be the first for rookie coach David Culley.

Rusty Hardin: 2 new women file allegations against Texans QB Deshaun Watson

Rusty Hardin, who represents Houston Texans QB Deshaun Watson, says two new women have filed charges against his client.

Two new women have filed complaints against Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson.

The women filed their allegations of sexual assault with the Houston Police Department, according to John Barr of ESPN, and are not part of the lawsuit that includes 22 women. However, eight of the 22 women in the suit similarly filed charges with the Houston Police Department, according to Watson’s attorney, Rusty Hardin.

“There are 10 women that have made complaints to the police,” Hardin said.

Hardin says that Watson his legal team have cooperated with the Houston Police Department and also the Harris County District Attorney’s office.

“We’re dealing with both of them, providing them information,” said Hardin. “We’re fully cooperating with the police. We’re fully cooperating with the district attorney’s office and, when the criminal investigation is over, we’ll fully cooperate with the NFL.”

The NFL, which is conducting its own investigation, has not yet spoken with Watson, and Hardin says they will fully cooperate with the league when that time comes.

Watson reported to the Texans for training camp on Sunday, and in doing so avoids a $50,000 per day fine.

The three-time Pro Bowler requested a trade from the team in January and is still adamant about that request.

According to Hardin, teams are interested to work with the Texans in acquiring his client, even amid the lawsuit and complaints filed with the police.

“Teams are ready to jump now if the Texans would trade with them, even while all this is pending,” Hardin said. “There’s no question that teams, numerous teams, are still interested. The ball is in the Texans’ court.”

Report: Texans were willing to trade QB Deshaun Watson before the NFL draft

The Houston Texans were willing to trade QB Deshaun Watson even before the NFL draft. However, a report says the legal situation complicated it.

The Houston Texans have been willing to trade quarterback Deshaun Watson all offseason, even going back before the NFL draft.

What impacted Watson’s going to another NFL team was his legal situation involving 22 women alleging sexual assault. Throw in the NFL also investigating the allegations, and the situation is an entanglement teams would have to consider before acquiring the three-time Pro Bowler.

According to Mark Berman of Fox 26 [KRIV-TV], Watson’s legal issues is what impacted teams and made them hesitant about pushing the button to commence a trade.

The former 2017 first-round pick reported to training camp on Sunday. Watson is still adamant about departing Houston and continuing his NFL career in another city. Watson also has a no-trade clause in his contract that he would have to waive in order to allow a trade to go forward — meaning, the Texans can’t just ship him anywhere, regardless of the favorable compensation.

QB Deshaun Watson was ‘respectful’ when he reported to Texans training camp

Pro Bowl quarterback Deshaun Watson was “respectful,” according to reports, when he showed up to Houston Texans training camp.

Deshaun Watson made headlines on Sunday when he reported to Houston Texans training camp. The arrival of No. 4 marked the end of a six-month standoff between Watson and the AFC South club.

With the three-time Pro Bowler blinking in a stare down with the organization, there was some interest as to how he would comport himself rejoining a team he can’t wait to leave.

According to Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network, Watson actually was “respectful” when he showed up to Texans camp. However, the former 2017 first-round pick is still adamant that he wants to be traded and continue his pro football career in another NFL city.

The Texans’ first training camp practice is Wednesday at 9:00 p.m. Central Time. By reporting to camp, Watson avoids a fine of $50,000 per day.

The Texans signed Watson to a four-year, $156 million contract in September of 2020. The 25-year-old will cost the Texans $15.94 million against the salary cap in 2021.

QB Deshaun Watson to report to Texans training camp to avoid $50K per day fine

Quarterback Deshaun Watson will reportedly show up to Houston Texans training camp just to avoid the $50K per day fine.

One of the first big training camp storylines is starting to get more pages written in the script.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, three-time Pro Bowl quarterback Deshaun Watson will report to the Houston Texans for training camp. In doing so, Watson avoids the $50,000 per day fine for missing camp. However, the former 2017 first-round pick is still adamant with his trade demand, which was requested in early January.

The ball is also now in the court of the NFL as they have Watson under investigation regarding his involvement as a defendant in a lawsuit alleging he sexually assaulted 22 women.

On June 14 in an interview with “Payne & Pendergast” on Sports Radio 610 [KILT-AM], general manager Nick Caserio said the club would make decisions with regards to Watson as they got more information on the situation.

“I don’t really have any additional comments about anything,” said Caserio. “I think we’re respectful of what’s happening. We’re respectful of the process and everybody that’s involved. So, again, the most important thing is for all of us — coaches, players, myself included is to focus on the things that we can control, and as we get more information, as we get closer to training camp, then we’ll try to make the best decision for the Houston Texans, whatever that entails.”

Watson reporting for camp is a big piece of information for the Texans. The onus is now on Caserio and first-year coach David Culley to make the best decision for the team.
