Last year, the Buccaneers took LSU linebacker Devin White with the fifth pick in the 2019 NFL draft, marking the first time the Bucs had taken a linebacker in round one since Derrick Brooks back in 1995.
The pick of Brooks turned into one of the greatest ever by Tampa Bay — along with that of Warren Sapp, who was taken in the same draft ahead of Brooks. Brooks took some time to talk about his draft night experience all those years ago, and recalled a funny story involving his grandmother on “phone patrol.”
It has now been 25 years since the @Buccaneers took our Co-Chair, @DBrooks55 in the first round alongside fellow Hall of Famer, @WarrenSapp. On today’s #TampaBay55 #TopPlay, Mr. 55 himself discusses how he spent his draft night. pic.twitter.com/x3YlNCXXxO
