Where the UCLA QB room stands after Dermaricus Davis transfer

Here’s what the UCLA QB room looks like.

The UCLA quarterback room just got a bit bigger. Following the transfer commitment of Dermaricus Davis, a native of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, the Bruins now have a whopping nine quarterbacks on the roster. 

While rising redshirt senior Ethan Garbers remains the most likely candidate to start in Week 1 for the Bruins, adding Davis does put more pressure on him to continue to prove why he is QB1. 

Davis was a four-star recruit coming out of high school and played for the NCAA Division I national champion runner-up Washington Huskies. Seeing no time behind eventual first-round selection Michael Penix Jr., Davis does have the size and tools to be a potential future starter. 

Though it is very unlikely that Davis will unseat Garbers, it is worth noting that several other young quarterbacks could have their spots snatched. 

Class of 2024 quarterback and son of longtime NFL QB Matt Hasselbeck, Henry Hasselbeck, also looks to rise on the depth chart as a polished young recruit.

With how the transfer portal churns players in and out of programs if Davis does show out in practice and potentially on the field, the Bruins could see some of their QB hopefuls flee to another team. 

UCLA lands commitment from ex-Washington QB after visit

UCLA hosted Washington transfer on an official visit.

The UCLA Bruins football program continues to work hard on the recruiting trail. Over the weekend, they added Florida A&M EDGE Cherif Seye after landing a few special teams additions the week before.

And, over the weekend they also hosted former Washington quarterback Dermaricus Davis, per Tracy Pierson of Bruin Report.

Then, on Monday afternoon, Davis committed to the Bruins, per Hayes Fawcett of On3.

The four-star prospect out of high school committed to Washington but entered the portal after Kalen DeBoer went to Alabama. But, he returned to Seattle after Jedd Fisch was hired before entering the portal again this Spring.

Karson Gordon and Henry Hasselbeck are two quarterback commits for the Class of 2024 for UCLA, so Davis should immediately compete for the backup job.

Collin Schlee left for Virginia Tech and Justyn Martin has been the backup, but Davis is a talented player and a significant pickup for DeShaun Foster and the Bruins.

The first day of the early signing period is in the books and the newly expanded Big Ten added a wealth of talent. It would take too long to evaluate every prospect in one piece, but the additions at quarterback earn their own discussion.

There was a great deal of drama for the top quarterback in the class, Dylan Raiola. He bounced his commitment from one school to another. Ohio State was his first choice, but when pen met paper, it was another Big Ten school that made the cut.

With the expanded 18-team Big Ten including four major powerhouses on the West Coast, it should not be a surprise the conference added seven of the top 20 quarterbacks in the nation.

It should also not be a surprise that the Buckeyes added one of the highly-ranked gunslingers. The following are the top five quarterbacks to commit to Big Ten Schools during the early signing period based on the 247Sports composite.
