Former Alabama wide receiver Derek Kief was hired as Missouri State’s receivers coach on Saturday

One former Alabama player is making his rounds in the coaching landscape. According to On3’s Matt Zenitz, former Alabama wide receiver Derek Kief was hired as Missouri State’s wide receivers coach on Saturday.

Kief played wide receiver at Alabama from 2014-2018. In five seasons, Kief recorded 11 receptions for 201 yards and two touchdowns. Soon after his college career concluded, Kief decided to pursue a coaching career.

Kief spent last season as an analyst and interim wide receivers coach at Arkansas. Prior to joining the Razorbacks coaching staff, Kief served as an analyst at Maryland and eventually became the wide receivers coach at Towson.

Former Alabama WR Derek Kief promoted to interim WRs coach at Arkansas

Former Alabama wide receiver Derek Kief was recently promoted to interim wide receiver’s coach at Arkansas. He played for the Crimson Tide from 2014-2018.

Alabama head coach Nick Saban has a former player of his that was recently promoted in the coaching world. Former Alabama wide receiver Derek Kief was recently promoted from being an offensive assistant to becoming the interim wide receivers coach at Arkansas.

Saban had the following to say in regards to Arkansas’ decision to name Kief as the interim wide receivers coach, “He’s a very driven guy, so this is no surprise to me.”

Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman also commented on promoting Kief from offensive assistant to being named the interim wide receivers coach.

“He’s a mature guy, has a good relationship with the kids, knows the offense, went through the offense, knows the terminology. … He was an easy choice regarding that,” Pittman said.

Kief played under Saban at Alabama from 2014-2018. He played in 51 games throughout his five-year career with the Crimson Tide. He hauled in 11 receptions for 101 yards and two touchdowns.

Now, he will have the opportunity to coach a talented receiving core in Fayetteville that is headlined by 6-foot-6 pass-catcher Andrew Armstrong. It will be interesting to see how the wide receivers continue to develop down the stretch under the direction of Kief.

Arkansas hires former Alabama WR Derek Kief as analyst

Former Tide wide receiver Derek Kief is joining the Arkansas staff as an analyst. He was a wide receiver at Alabama from 2014-2018.

Derek Kief began his career as a football player at Alabama from 2014-2018. Soon after, he began his coaching career as an analyst on Mike Locksley’s staff at Maryland. In 2022, he served as Towson’s wide receivers coach.

Now, he is headed to join the Arkansas staff in an analyst role, according to On3’s Matt Zenitz. This will be the biggest stop up to this point as a coach. It presents a good opportunity for Kief to learn from SEC coaches and gain more knowledge to enhance his coaching style.

Derek Kief landed a job at Maryland as a graduate assistant, and will be joining former Alabama offensive coordinator Mike Locksley. 

On Thursday, former Alabama WR Derek Kief landed a job at Maryland as a graduate assistant, and will be joining Maryland head coach, and former Alabama offensive coordinator Mike Locksley.

While at Alabama, Kief played rom 2015-2018 and recorded 11 catches for 101 yards and two touchdowns during his career in Tuscaloosa.
