Notre Dame presents offer to forward recruit Alex Karaban

The Irish are after a forward that’s on a bunch of schools’ radars.

Notre Dame is going after a player who has every intention of taking advantage of as many opportunities as possible. For the past two years, forward recruit Alex Karaban has played prep basketball in New Hampton, New Hampshire. As a senior, he will attend the renowned IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. That commitment to excellence was too good for the Irish to ignore, so they decided to become the latest program to make him an offer:

It’s hard to know for certain which direction Karaban is leaning towards. 247Sports believes Penn State and Northwestern, two schools he made official visits to in June, are the top contenders. Rivals forecasts him heading to Indiana. Of course, he also could choose one of the many other schools that have offered him, including Purdue, Boston College, Virginia Tech, Iowa, UConn, Georgetown, DePaul, Marquette, Stanford, LSU, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Creighton and even Harvard.

Notre Dame gives offer to power forward recruit Jalen Washington

The Irish could use some size in the future.

When Anthony Solomon returned to Mike Brey’s staff, it was fair to wonder how soon he would pay dividends. While we don’t know yet as far as landing recruits, we now know as far as presenting offers to them. Jalen Washington, a power forward going into his senior season at West Side in Gary, Indiana, can add Notre Dame to the list of offers he’s already gotten. He credited both Brey and Solomon for their interest in him:

Washington has received over a dozen offers so far. The schools he’s mostly trending towards are North Carolina, Indiana, Purdue, Michigan State, Stanford and Alabama. He visited the Tar Heels on June 2 and is scheduled to meet with the Cardinal on Saturday. The other schools in the mix are Louisville, Illinois, Iowa, Penn State, Nebraska, Maryland, DePaul and Oklahoma.

The Irish really need some depth with their size, and Washington would fit the bill perfectly.

3 sleepers the Golden State Warriors could target in the NBA Draft

Could the Warriors find the next Eric Paschall in the 2020 NBA Draft?

While the NFL draft is leading headlines, the Golden State Warriors are dialing in for the NBA edition of draft day. With the worst record in the NBA, Bob Myers and Steve Kerr will have the opportunity to bring in a blue-chip prospect to the Bay Area at the start of the lottery.

Anthony Edwards, Onyeka Okongwu and LaMelo Ball have been popular at the start of many mock drafts projections for the Warriors. Outside of the top three, Deni Avdija, and Isaac Okoro have been trending names across draft boards.

Golden State will likely have their choice at the top of June’s draft, but what if they went off the board? With the championship core of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green still in place, the Warriors could go in a bevy of directions with their selection.

The Warriors could trade the pick for a later spot in the lottery, or they could package their two-second rounders for a late first-round pick. Options will be on the table for Myers and Kerr.

The Warriors have been successful with navigating around the back end of the draft to find contributors. After being selected in the second round of the 2019 draft, Eric Paschall has blossomed into one of the Warriors’ key contributors as a rookie.

If the Warriors decide to go off the radar when it’s their time on the clock, here are three sleepers to consider

DePaul at Butler college basketball odds, picks and best bets

Analyzing DePaul at Butler sports betting odds and lines, with college basketball betting picks and tips.

The DePaul Blue Demons (14-14, 2-13 Big East) visit the Butler Bulldogs (19-9, 7-8) in a Saturday-evening (6:30 p.m. ET) Big East contest at Hinkle Fieldhouse. We analyze the DePaul-Butler odds and betting lines, with college basketball betting advice and tips around this matchup.

DePaul at Butler: Three things you need to know

1. DePaul is 1-9 over its last 10 games, and the Blue Demons have won just two Big East contests. DePaul’s last victory came against these Butler Bulldogs. As a four-point underdog hosting Butler on Jan. 18 – and having lost four straight going in – the Demons whipped the Bulldogs by 13 points. DePaul’s defense forced 17 turnovers in the game; on offense, the Demons went 10-for-17 from beyond the three-point arc and got to the free-throw line 32 times. On the Butler side, the game marked the middle of three straight defeats. The losses came amid troubles on both sides of the ball.

2. The Bulldogs play a slow pace, one of the slowest in the nation. And in an otherwise high-tempo Big East, the Butler style is a zag against the zig that DePaul sees on most nights. However, the Blue Demons have performed better than expected against the slow teams. Against teams in the bottom 40 percent in pace, DePaul is 7-1 against the spread. In those eight games, the over has gone 6-2, so its apparent the Demons are “winning” the pace if not the game.

3. DePaul has been torched from distance of late. Over their last four games, the Demons have witnessed foes going 47-for-95 (49.5 percent) on the extra-point 20-footers. For the season, DePaul has allowed a 32.5 percent figure, a mark which ranks 205th in the nation (about average). The Butler Bulldogs rank 253rd in the nation in attempts. Their 33.8 percent success rate ranks 160th.

Prediction

Butler 72, DePaul 63

Moneyline (ML)

AVOID THE JUICE-FILLED BUTLER -400/DePAUL +310 PROPOSITION.

Against the Spread (ATS)

There are crisscrossing trends here, but the Bulldogs are coming off five days or rest and have done well in such spots this season (4-1 ATS). They have a likable line and are worthy of a small-confidence play. TAKE BUTLER -7.5 (-121).

Over/Under (O/U)

There’s a lean on the UNDER 135.5 (-115) here, but its not actionable. Stand pat.

Seton Hall at DePaul odds, picks and best bets

Previewing Monday’s Seton Hall Pirates vs. DePaul Blue Demons Blue Demons sports betting odds and lines, with NCAA basketball betting picks.

The Seton Hall Pirates (8-4) and DePaul Blue Demons (12-1) open the conference schedule at Wintrust Arena in suburban Chicago at 8:30 p.m. ET Monday. We analyze the Seton Hall-DePaul odds and betting lines, while providing college basketball betting tips and advice on this matchup.

Seton Hall at DePaul: Three things you need to know

1. The Pirates have been banged up, but they have ripped off two straight wins while playing at less than 100%. They surprised Maryland as seven-point underdogs Dec. 19, and thumped Prairie View A&M as 17.5-point favorites, winning by 20. The Under has hit in four straight for the Pirates.

2. DePaul suffered a stunning 74-69 loss to Buffalo Dec. 8, falling as a 10.5-point favorite. But the Blue Demons have rattled off three wins in a row since, including a solid 83-78 victory over crosstown rival Northwestern.

3. The underdog has connected in four of the past five meetings in this series.

Prediction

DePaul 70, Seton Hall 63

Moneyline (ML)

There was no moneyline available at the time of publishing, probably because of the 1-point spread.

Against the Spread (ATS)

DEPAUL (+1, -110) is the play at home, mainly due to health. G Myles Powell (concussion) and F Sandro Mamukelashvili (wrist) are out for Seton Hall, and the Pirates can’t continue to tick off wins without two of their top scorers.

Over/Under (O/U)

UNDER 137 (-110) is worth a small-unit play, as the Pirates will likely look to slow it down without Powell and Mamukelashvili in the conference opener on the road. The Under is 4-0 in the past four for SHU, and 5-2 in DePaul’s past seven against teams with a winning percentage of .600 or better.

New to sports betting? Every $1.10 wagered on the Under will profit $1 if the combined total score is 136 points or less.
