Giants list an astonishing 21 players on injury report

The New York Giants listed an astonishing 21 players on their Wednesday injury report, including linebackers Brian Burns and Bobby Okereke.

The New York Giants returned to practice on Wednesday afternoon in preparation for a Week 16 game against the Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia.

Before taking the field, head coach Brian Daboll stepped up to the podium and spoke with reporters.

Two days after lacking clarity on the quarterback situation, Daboll revealed that Drew Lock is expected to start on Sunday barring a setback. He also expects Tommy DeVito to clear concussion protocol and serve as QB3.

“Drew should be okay,” Daboll told reporters. “(DeVito) moving through the protocol. He’ll do something today. I envision him being — I mean, who knows with concussions, but he’ll have a chance. If he is, he’ll be number two.”

Tim Boyle, who took over in Week 15, will fill the role of emergency third quarterback.

Meanwhile, Daboll revealed that linebacker Patrick Johnson will likely miss Sunday’s game with a knee issue.

The New York Giants took the field on Thursday for their second of three practices ahead of a Week 15 game against the Baltimore Ravens at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Beforehand, head coach Brian Daboll updated the status of several injured players, including positive news regarding offensive tackle Evan Neal and cornerback Deonte Banks, each of whom has a chance to play on Sunday.

Daboll also revealed that rookie safety Tyler Nubin, who was placed on season-ending injured reserve (IR) on Wednesday, will “probably” undergo surgery on his injured ankle.

Giants injury report: Drew Lock, Jon Runyan likely out vs. Ravens

The New York Giants listed nearly 20 players on their Wednesday injury report, including QB Drew Lock and OL Jon Runyan Jr.

The New York Giants returned to practice on Wednesday afternoon in preparation for a Week 15 game against the Baltimore Ravens at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Before taking the field, head coach Brian Daboll stepped up to the podium and spoke with reporters.

Most of what Daboll revealed was not anything considered positive news, beginning with quarterback Drew Lock, who is in a walking boot and unlikely to play on Sunday.

“I wouldn’t say he’s doing great. He’s in a boot,” Daboll said. “He has a heel. He won’t practice today. He won’t be out on a practice field today. Can’t tell you if he’d be ready to go right now. So, Tommy (DeVito) will get all the reps.

“Can’t see him going tomorrow. Hopefully Friday we can see whether or not he can end up being a two or a three. But, not there yet as of today.”

Additionally, guard Jon Runyan Jr. is also expected to miss the Ravens game but there is at least some optimism that left tackle Jermaine Eluemunor could return.

“Jermaine, he’s made good progress,” Daboll said. “Probably more optimistic with Jermaine.”

If there was a sliver of good news, it’s that cornerback Deonte Banks returned to practice on a limited basis.

Did not participate: QB Drew Lock (heel), CB Andru Phillips (shoulder), LB Bobby Okereke (back), OL Jon Runyan Jr. (ankle), OL Evan Neal (ankle), DT Rakeem Nunez-Roches (neck/shoulder)

Giants’ Bobby Okereke, Deonte Banks out vs. Saints

The New York Giants have ruled out LB Bobby Okereke and CB Deonte Banks, listed two as doubtful and six others as questionable in Week 14.

The New York Giants will take on the New Orleans Saints at MetLife Stadium on Sunday afternoon and will enter the game extremely shorthanded.

In addition to their many other injuries, head coach Brian Daboll revealed on Friday that rookie wide receiver Malik Nabers is now dealing with a hip issue that required an MRI. He was previously limited in practice due to a groin injury.

“He won’t practice today. He’s got a hip flexor,” Daboll said. “(But) he’s not ruled out, no.”

Several other players, including defensive lineman Rakeem Nunez-Roches and linebacker Bobby Okereke, continued to miss practice and were ruled out for the team’s Week 14.

Even those who did a little work, such as cornerback Deonte Banks, didn’t make enough progress to suit up against the Saints.

New York Giants OL Jermaine Eluemunor and OL Evan Neal returned to practice on Thursday, while QB Tommy DeVito took a step toward suiting up.

The New York Giants took the field on Thursday for their second of three practices ahead of a Week 14 game against the New Orleans Saints at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Beforehand, head coach Brian Daboll updated the status of several injured players, including quarterback Tommy DeVito, who now appears in line to suit up on Sunday.

“(He looked) better than he’s been, so he will be the No. 2,” Daboll said.

Giants injury report: Dyontae Johnson designated to return from IR

The New York Giants have activated linebacker Dyontae Johnson to return from IR on a day with a very lengthy injury report.

The New York Giants returned to practice on Wednesday afternoon in preparation for a Week 14 game against the New Orleans Saints at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Before taking the field, head coach Brian Daboll stepped up to the podium and spoke with reporters.

Among Daboll’s reveals was that quarterback Tommy DeVito is still dealing with a forearm injury, which means Drew Lock will start on Sunday. The coach would not commit to DeVito being active as a backup.

The Giants also designated linebacker Dyontae Johnson to return from injured reserve (IR). His 21-day window officially opened on Wednesday as he returned to practice.

Daboll also shared ominous news on a multitude of other players, including offensive tackle Jermaine Eluemunor, saying they all have a chance to play against the Saints but should be considered “week to week,” which effectively encompasses the remainder of the season.

“I’d say week-to-week,” Daboll said of the injured players. “I think they all have a chance, but I think it’s too early to tell how optimistic I am with it.”

If Eluemunor and right tackle Evan Neal can’t play on Sunday, Chris Hubbard and Joshua Ezeudu will start.

Giants’ Jermaine Eluemunor out, Tommy DeVito questionable vs. Cowboys

The New York Giants have ruled LT Jermaine Eluemunor out and QB Tommy DeVito as questionable against the Dallas Cowboys.

The New York Giants will take on the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium on Thanksgiving Day and will enter the game shorthanded.

Left tackle Jermaine Eluemunor, who was already replacing Andrew Thomas (IR), has been ruled out due to a quad injury that forced him to exit a Week 12 game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Additionally, quarterback Tommy DeVito, who was not on the team’s projected injury report this past Monday, has been given a questionable designation.

“Sore. My whole body’s kind of sore. First time playing in a while, took a couple shots. It’s not even 48 hours, so things are still kind of just settling in,” DeVito told reporters on Tuesday.

Giants injury report: Tommy DeVito at risk of missing Cowboys game

New York Giants QB Tommy DeVito was added to Tuesday’s injury report and is at risk of missing a Thanksgiving Day game against Dallas.

The New York Giants took the field on Tuesday for a walkthrough practice ahead of their Week 13 game against the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Beforehand, head coach Brian Daboll met with reporters and revealed that quarterback Tommy DeVito was added to the injury report with a forearm issue.

“If we were practicing today, it’s a walkthrough, he would be limited. His forearm is sore, and we’ll see where we’re at. We had a walkthrough right before this. It is sore, so we’ll see where we’re at here,” Daboll said.

“He threw in the walkthrough. I wouldn’t say it’s timing or a lot of depth to it or velocity to it, but he was throwing in the walkthrough. He’s going to test it out here today in practice in another walkthrough. So, I’m hopeful, but it’s not 100 percent.”

Daboll added that he was “hopeful” both DeVito and right tackle Evan Neal will play, but was less optimistic regarding edge rusher Azeez Ojulari, defensive tackle Armon Watts, and left tackle Jermaine Eluemunor.

The Giants’ full Tuesday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: OL Jermaine Eluemunor (quad), LB Azeez Ojulari (toe), DT Armon Watts (shoulder)

Giants vs. Buccaneers: 3 causes for concern in Week 12

The New York Giants square off in a Sunday afternoon battle against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 12. Here are three causes for concern.

The New York Giants will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium with hopes of creating a spark out of the bye week.

That spark will have to come via the Giants’ new QB1, Tommy DeVito, or as most Giants fans know him, “Tommy Cutlets.”

This, of course, comes following the decision by the Giants earlier this week to bench Daniel Jones and start DeVito instead of Drew Lock, who they signed in the offseason for $5 million. He has served as the backup quarterback all season.

The Giants come in well-rested off the bye week sporting a five-game losing streak after their embarrassing loss to the Carolina Panthers in Munich, Germany.

Meanwhile, the Buccaneers come in with a four-game losing streak all of which have come against teams that are currently .500 or better.

While most fans are probably rooting for losses at this point for 2025 NFL draft positioning, the Giants are hoping to get back in the win column, especially Brian Daboll, who may be coaching for his job.

Here are three causes for concern ahead of the Week 12 matchup.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The return of Mike Evans

Wide receiver Mike Evans is trending toward a return on Sunday after being out with a hamstring injury since Week 7. Evans, one of the league’s best and most underrated receivers, will present a major challenge for the Giants’ secondary — in particular, Deonte Banks, who has struggled mightily in his sophomore season.

The Bucs come into Week 12 with the second-best completion percentage in the league and will go up against a Giants’ defense that ranks 30th in opponents’ completion percentage. If Evans can go, it would give Tampa Bay an added boost in this game.

Bucs may be better than their record

As previously mentioned, the Bucs come in with a four-game losing streak. All six losses this season have come against teams that enter Week 12 with a record of .500 or better.

The Bucs also had some impressive victories this year. Three of their four wins have come against against the Washington Commanders (7-4), Philadelphia Eagles (8-2), and Detroit Lions (9-1).

In fact, the Bucs’ only game against an opponent under .500 was against the New Orleans Saints.

The Giants will be the worst opponent (record-wise) the Bucs have had on their schedule so far this season.

The Bucs rushing attack

The Bucs are averaging 5.0 yards per carry this season, which ranks fifth in the league and could be a recipe for disaster considering the Giants have struggled against the run all season long.

The Giants are giving up a league-worst 5.3 yards per carry heading into Week 12.

The Bucs rush the ball at just over 41 percent of their plays. However, given the mismatch in this category, the Giants can expect a heavy dose of the Tampa Bay rushing attack on Sunday.

Terry McLaurin offers blunt take on Giants CB Deonte Banks

Washington Commanders WR Terry McLaurin offered up a harsh evaluation of New York Giants CB Deonte Banks.

New York Giants second-year cornerback Deonte Banks was hoping he could get his season on track after getting benched in Week 8 halfway through the team’s loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Banks came into Sunday’s game against Washington aiming to shadow the Commanders’ top wide receiver, Terry McLaurin, who he had success against in the first meeting in Week 2.

But it wasn’t Banks whose study paid off in the second meeting, it was McLaurin’s. The former Ohio State standout beat Banks twice for touchdowns.

Banks has now allowed six touchdowns in the Giants’ first nine games this season and has permitted 10 overall in his 23-game NFL career.

The book is now out on Banks and McLaurin shed some light on what he saw in film study this past week.

“I knew Banks likes to really slow play routes in the red zone. He likes to kind of, no pun intended, bank inside, meaning he takes inside leverage,” McLaurin said, via Sports Illustrated. “I knew he was playing a little head-up on that route and so I watched the Cleveland game when Amari Cooper kind of rocked him a little bit. That was more of a true slant and mine was kind of more of a one-step slant, but the same principles apply.”

Cooper also had two touchdowns against Banks in the Giants’ Week 3 win. McLaurin appears to have picked up on Banks’ tendencies and was ready when the time came.

“He’s not really aggressive in the red zone for whatever reason and so I knew if I came off a little urgently, he would probably try to get hands-on quickly and that could make a really bang, bang play,” McLaurin said. “So I came off really slow, I was telling Jay (Daniels), I’m going to slow play it whether it was a fade or a slam, I’m going to slow play him and just have him kind of relax on the snap. Then the suddenness of the outside stick to win inside, and like I said, he threw the ball low and away and only I had a chance to get it.”

Banks has been criticized by coaches and teammates for his lax play at times and Sunday’s performance is just another instance of the former first-round pick’s difficulties in transitioning into the NFL.
