NFL Week 8: Let’s make some money parlay

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 12:54 a.m. ET. All games Sunday and ET unless noted.

Leg 1: Broncos vs. Jaguars UNDER 40.5 (-105) – 9:30 a.m. (ESPN+)

Both teams have struggled in recent weeks. The Jaguars are on a 3-game losing streak. The Broncos, in their 1st season with QB Russell Wilson, have been dreadful on offense. They have yet to score more than 23 points in a game and that came in a 32-23 loss Week 4 to the Las Vegas Raiders. That’s also the only game the Broncos gave up more than 19 points.

While Wilson is practicing in a limited role leading up to this game, it will not matter for the score. He has shown this season an inability to make things happen when not being controlled and coach Nathaniel Hackett, who reports say is already on the hot seat, cannot control him.

The key to this matchup and this bet is defense. Both teams have good defenses this season. The Broncos, despite not scoring more than 23 points have also only given up more than this once. The Jaguars defense, with rookie LBs Travon Walker and Devin Lloyd along with LB Josh Allen have also been solid in 2022.

With a shutout against the Colts and holding all other opponents to less than 30, the Jaguars defense will do wonders against a mediocre Broncos team. Especially in the Jaguars 2nd home of London. I like the UNDER 40.5 (-105) as I do not see either team getting to 20.

Leg 2: Cardinals at VIKINGS -3.5 (-112) – 1 p.m. (FOX)

The Cardinals come into this matchup after a 42-34 drubbing of the New Orleans Saints 2 Thursdays ago. While the team won the game, arguments between QB Kyler Murray and coach Kliff Kingsbury show the tension is still high in this relationship. I do not like what I am seeing, and I will use this to make my play here.

Coming off a bye week, the Minnesota Vikings are home. With Justin Jefferson and Adam Thielen staffing the WR slots and Dalvin Cook at RB, the weapons for Minnesota are having a monster campaign. This has allowed the Vikings to get out to a 5-1 record and a 1st-place spot in the NFC North.

The Cardinals are a good 2nd-half team as they tend to start out at a snail’s pace. If they do the same this week, the deficit they face will be too much to overcome. This is what I think will happen, so I like the VIKINGS -3.5 (-112). If it is closer to game time and available, the 1st-half Vikings line is also a great wager.

Leg 3: 49ERS (-115) at Rams – 4:25 p.m. (FOX)

This division is always weird. The teams always have another team they constantly beat. In this case, the 49ers have beaten the Rams in 7 straight regular-season games.

Coming off a bye week, the Rams look to get on track as an early-season slump has left the team wanting. RB Cam Akers is being held out as the team looks to trade him, and RB Darrell Henderson will be forced to bring the run game to life in Sofi Stadium.

For the 49ers, the addition of RB Christian McCaffrey is a clear win-now move. The talent he brings in the run game and the receiving game is unparalleled in the NFL. His addition, along with the return of LT Trent Williams will make huge differences to the 49ers team.

For some reason, 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan has the Rams coach Sean McVay’s number. I cannot understand it. But I will ride with it. I like the 49ERS (-115) here.

Parlay payout: Bet $10 to win $69.09 (profit $59.09).

Leg 4-*: Steelers at Eagles OVER 42.5 (-110) – 1 p.m. (CBS)

*-If you want to add a 4th play to this parlay:

The Eagles come into this matchup averaging 26.8 points per game while giving up an average of 17.5. The offense has been good this season and so has the defense.

With the Steelers and rookie QB Kenny Pickett coming to town, the Eagles defense has a chance to score in this game along with the offense scoring. The Steelers will once again be without LB T.J. Watt and this will allow Philadelphia to run the ball with RB Miles Sanders and QB Jalen Hurts, who leads the team with 6 rushing TDs this season.

While Pickett may have some issues, this means he will need to continue to throw when Pittsburgh gets behind. Garbage-time points are still points and the Steelers should get some garbage time in this game. This will allow the game to hit the OVER 42.5 (-110).

Parlay payout: Bet $10 to win $131.90 (profit $121.90).

Broncos vs. Jags Week 2 recap: Everything we know

From the key game notes, to the standout performers, to the injuries that occurred, here is everything we know about the Jags’ 23-13 loss to Denver.

The Jacksonville Jaguars lost their 17th straight regular season game Sunday after falling to the Denver Broncos by a score of 23-13. It was a game where the team looked better than they did last week, but there isn’t room to make it a moral victory as the Jags had the lead at one point in the game.

Sunday’s game was another where Jags rookie Trevor Lawrence struggled, though he started the game off hot. The play-calling likely didn’t help either, as it was another game where the offense lacked balance.

As for the defense, they took a step forward when comparing their performance to the first, but they still struggled to be effective in the passing game and allowed another quarterback to pass for over 291 yards against them.

Clearly, there is a lot to clean up heading forward, but before we look ahead to Week 3, here is what we know about Week 2’s loss in the home opener:

Jaguars lose to Broncos, 23-13: Here’s how Twitter reacted

The Jaguars have lost 17 games in a row after falling to the Broncos Sunday. Here’s how Twitter reacted.

The Jacksonville Jaguars found themselves on the losing end again on Sunday, as they fell to the Denver Broncos by a score of 23-13. However, they started this game on a high note by scoring on the first drive, which was capped with a 25-yard pass from Trevor Lawrence to Marvin Jones Jr.

Unfortunately, the Jags would not score again until the 5:26 minute mark in the fourth quarter. Though kicker Josh Lambo had a chance to give them six more points, it was kick returner Jamal Agnew who eventually got the Jags their next and last touchdown before Denver bled to clock out on the final series.

The loss marks the Jags 17th in a row dating back to their 1-15 season last year and it puts them at 0-2 in the current season. The road does not get any easier as they will take on a talented Arizona Cardinals squad that is fresh off a strong 38-13 victory against the Tennessee Titans in Week 1.

While anticipation was heavy to see how the Jaguars would respond after last week’s loss to the Houston Texans, here is how Twitter responded to the loss against the Broncos:

Watch: Trevor Lawrence hits Marvin Jones Jr. for 25-yard touchdown in opening drive vs. Broncos

Jags rookie Trevor Lawrence took advantage of the opening drive by hitting Marvin Jones Jr. on a 25-yard strike to the veteran, which started the game off at a 7-0 score.

The Jacksonville Jaguars started Week 1 off on a slow note and let the Houston Texans punch them in the mouth first. However, in Week 2’s game that was not the case as the team scored first — and did so in the opening drive.

Rookie Trevor Lawrence was able to march the team down the field on an 11-play drive that resulted in a 25-yard touchdown reception to Marvin Jones Jr. The veteran ran a fade up the top side of the field and saw little resistance, which allowed him to get a step on veteran Kyle Fuller.

On the drive, Lawrence was able to convert four third-down situations, so the pass blocking has been good for him to open the game. His pass to Jones and the point after attempt then put the score at 7-0, but Denver was able to drive down the field for a field goal on the following drive, putting the score at 7-3.

Jags announce Week 2 inactives: Pass-rushers Jordan Smith, Lerentee McCray ruled OUT

Three of the four players from the Jags’ final injury report have been ruled OUT against Denver. Meanwhile, the Broncos will be without a starting guard.

The list of inactives for the Jacksonville Jaguars’ Week 2 game against the Denver Broncos is almost identical to last weeks. Cornerback Tre Herndon was already ruled out Friday, but the team announced that pass-rushers Jordan Smith and Lerentee McCray will join him after both being ruled questionable.

The three other players who will join them are players who were inactive last week in offensive tackle Walker Little, tight end Jacob Hollister, and defensive tackle Jay Tufele. Of the group, fans were hoping to see the two rookies (Tufele and Little) become active this week, but it appears their debuts will be put on hold.

As for the Broncos, they announced that fourth-year pass-rusher Bradley Chubb (ankle) will be active, giving them their dynamic duo of him and Miller. However, the will be without their starting guard in Graham Glasgow (illness).

The rest of their inactives are as follows:

Listen: Jags Wire previews Week 2’s game with Broncos Wire

For those headed to the game, we have a new episode of “Bleav in the Jags” up previewing Sunday’s game against Denver with @TheBroncosWire. Feel free to listen!

After falling to Houston, the Jacksonville Jaguars (0-1) will look to get their first one in the win column Sunday against the Denver Broncos (1-0), who had a much more successful Week 1 result. To get some intel on Vic Fangio’s group, not only did we go behind enemy lines with Broncos Wire’s Jon Heath, but we also jumped in the recording booth with him for episode 87 of “Bleav in the Jags.”

Among the topics discussed were the expectations for the Broncos, the difference veteran Teddy Bridgewater has made, and a player on the Jags’ unit who Denver would like to snag.

Prior to the conversation with Jon, we also discussed the latest rumors surrounding Urban Meyer and reviewed what went wrong Week 1 against the Texans.

The episode can be heard below in the media player, while archived episodes can be revisited here.

4 reasons the Jaguars could defeat the Broncos in Week 2

The Jags are coming off a Week 1 where many aren’t that high on their chances to win Week 2, but we have four reasons they could upset Denver on Sunday.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will be back at it Sunday afternoon, hosting the 1-0 Denver Broncos. After last week’s disappointing loss to the Houston Texans, Urban Meyer will be hoping he can turn things around to acquire his first win as an NFL head coach in his first-ever regular season home game in the NFL.

Denver looked sharp on both sides of the ball last week, dispatching the New York Giants with relative ease. In fact, the victory was so impressive that it led to linebacker Von Miller telling quarterback Teddy Bridgewater that the mood surrounding the Broncos hadn’t been as high as it was Sunday since the days when Peyton Manning was there.

If the Jaguars are going to become victorious Week 2, they are going to have to execute at a much higher level than they managed in Houston. With no doubts this game will be a difficult one, there is still room for optimism from a Jaguars perspective. These are four reasons why the Jaguars can come out of TIAA Bank with a victory this afternoon.

Week 2 final injury report for Broncos vs. Jaguars

As expected, Tre Herndon will miss Sunday’s game vs. Denver, but two others could potentially join him as pass-rushers Lerentee McCray and Jordan Smith are questionable.

As previously reported, the Jacksonville Jaguars ruled cornerback Tre Herndon out for Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos, but luckily he was the only player who is guaranteed to be inactive. However, pass-rushers Lerentee McCray (hamstring) and Jordan Smith (knee) could join him as they were ruled questionable on the final injury report, while cornerback Tyson Campbell (calf) didn’t appear in the status column.

On the Broncos’ end, starting guard Graham Glasgow (illness) was ruled doubtful. Pass-rusher Bradley Chubb (ankle) and linebacker Jonas Griffith (back) were ruled questionable.

Every other player on their injury report didn’t surface in the status column, including notable Shelby Harris and Noah Fant.

Tre Herndon to miss Week 2’s game vs. Denver, could potentially be back Week 3

There will be at least one player out Sunday for the Jags when they face Denver in CB Tre Herndon.

The Jacksonville Jaguars will at least have one player to miss Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos. That player is cornerback Tre Herndon (knee), who practiced for the first time this regular season on Thursday as a limited participant.

Herndon has been making progress from an MCL sprain he sustained Week 1 of the preseason against the Cleveland Browns, and will need more time off according to Jags coach Urban Meyer.

The Jags had three others on their injury report Thursday in pass-rushers Lerentee McCray and Jordan Smith and fellow cornerback Tyson Campbell. All of them were limited, so the final injury report will reveal whether or not they will join Herndon as inactives, which is unlikely to be the case.

We’ll have the final injury report late Friday afternoon for both the Jags and Broncos.

Jags have full participation after CB Tre Herndon is upgraded to limited

The Jags didn’t have a single player miss practice Thursday as CB Tre Herndon was upgraded to limited participation.

The Jacksonville Jaguars had full participation for the first time this regular season due to cornerback Tre Herndon (MCL sprain) returning as a limited participant Thursday. Herndon is the only player who hasn’t been able to participate in practice since the regular season started as he sustained his injury in the Jags’ first preseason game against the Cleveland Browns.

Herndon was trending upward on Wednesday all though he had a “DNP” status. He was seen on the field with a helmet and a knee brace then but worked on the side which made it clear he’d eventually be able to practice sooner rather than later. If he’s able to play Sunday against the Denver Broncos, it would be huge for a Jags secondary that needs all of the experience it can get at the moment.

Herndon was one of four players on the injury report alongside pass-rushers Jordan Smith and Lerentee McCray and cornerback Tyson Campbell. All three of the other players on the injury report were limited participants, too.
