Titans DC candidate Dennard Wilson garnering interest from other teams

Titans defensive coordinator candidate Dennard Wilson is drawing interest from at least two other teams.

The Tennessee Titans’ first known candidate for defensive coordinator is Baltimore Ravens defensive backs coach, Dennard Wilson, who the Titans will reportedly request an interview with.

However, the Titans aren’t the only team interested in Wilson’s services, with at least two other teams being in the mix.

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the New York Giants are set for their second interview with Wilson, which means he’s a finalist for that job. In addition, the Los Angeles Rams also plan on speaking with him.

Prior to his stint with the Ravens, Wilson served as a defensive backs coach with the Rams, New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles. He also held the title of pass-game coordinator with the latter two.

In Wilson’s first year as the DBs coach in Baltimore, the Ravens sported the No. 6 pass defense in the NFL. He also worked with a highly-touted defensive coordinator in Mike Macdonald.

One thing that could prevent all three of these teams from landing Wilson is Macdonald getting a head-coaching gig. If that happens, the Ravens would likely look to keep Wilson in Baltimore with a promotion to defensive coordinator.

Dennard Wilson getting second defensive coordinator interview with Giants

The New York Giants will conduct a second defensive coordinator interview with Baltimore Ravens defensive backs coach Dennard Wilson.

The New York Giants continue their search to replace former defensive coordinator Wink Martindale, who parted ways with the team due to differences with head coach Brian Daboll.

On Saturday, they met with Kansas City Chiefs linebackers coach Brendan Daly and will soon conduct a second interview with Baltimore Ravens defensive backs coach Dennard Wilson.

The Giants interviewed Dennard for the first time in mid-January.

Wilson has been a coach in the NFL since 2012, spending time with the Los Angeles Rams, New York Jets, and Philadelphia Eagles before taking over as the Ravens’ defensive backs coach in 2023. He was the Eagles’ passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach the year prior, and also coached the secondary in Philadelphia in 2021.

The 41-year-old Wilson is from Maryland and was a defensive back for the Terrapins from 200-2003. He also spent part of the 2004 season as a member of the Washington Redskins’ practice squad but never played in the NFL due to injuries.

Rams will interview Ravens DBs coach Dennard Wilson for defensive coordinator job

The Rams will interview Ravens DBs coach Dennard Wilson for their defensive coordinator job

As the Los Angeles Rams progress through their search for a new defensive coordinator, they’re eyeing an assistant coach from the top-seeded Baltimore Ravens. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Rams will interview Ravens defensive backs coach Dennard Wilson for their defensive coordinator position.

The Titans and Giants are also interviewing Wilson, with New York having met with him virtually once already.

Wilson was the Eagles’ defensive backs coach in 2021 before being promoted to pass game coordinator in 2022, but Philadelphia opted not to promote him to defensive coordinator and lost him to the Ravens where he’s coaching the DBs.

Wilson actually began his coaching career with the Rams in 2012 as a defensive quality control coach and then the DBs coach from 2015-2016, so he has some familiarity with Les Snead and the organization.

Titans requesting interview with Ravens’ Dennard Wilson for DC job

The Titans are reportedly requesting an interview with Ravens DBs coach Dennard Wilson for their defensive coordinator job.

We have our first known candidate for the Tennessee Titans’ defensive coordinator position under new head coach Brian Callahan.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Titans are requesting an interview with Baltimore Ravens defensive backs coach Dennard Wilson for their defensive coordinator vacancy.

Wilson is now a candidate for two different jobs, as the New York Giants interviewed him for the same position.

The 41-year-old coach has 12 years of NFL coaching experience, nine of which has been spent working with defensive backs.

Prior to his stint with the Ravens, he also served as the defensive backs coach for the Los Angeles Rams, New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles. He was the pass-game coordinator for the Jets and Eagles, as well.

His connection to the Titans comes from his time in Los Angeles, where four of his Wilson’s five seasons overlapped with general manager Ran Carthon’s time there when he served as director of player personnel (2012-15).

In his first year with Baltimore in 2023, the Ravens finished with the No. 6 pass defense. In 2022, he oversaw an Eagles secondary that sported the league’s best pass defense.

LOOK: Darius Slay details how close he was to joining Ravens during contract impass with Eagles

During the latest episode of his “Big Play Slay” podcast, Slay revealed that he nearly joined the Baltimore Ravens before signing an extension with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Darius Slay is staying with the Eagles after signing a 2-year, $42 million contract extension, but the Pro Bowl cornerback almost followed Dennard Wilson to the AFC North.

During a recent episode of his “Big Play Slay” Podcast on The Volume network, the veteran cornerback says he was initially released and ultimately re-signed by Philadelphia.

According to Over the Cap’s potential transaction chart, the Eagles could have easily created $12 million in salary cap space by restructuring Slay’s deal.

With a Post June 1 release, Philadelphia would have created $17.5 million in cap space and $8.6 million in a dead salary cap.

Had the Eagles cut Slay immediately, they would have gained $3 million in cap space while gaining $22.4 million in dead cap space.

Slay provided the behind-the-scenes negotiation process and revealed that he landed a similar offer from the Ravens that nearly convinced him to move to Baltimore.

Ravens name Dennard Wilson as DBs coach

The Ravens name Dennard Wilson as their next defensive backs coach

The Baltimore Ravens have seen plenty of coaching changes happen throughout the course of the 2023 offseason. The team is working to finalize the offensive and defensive staff for the upcoming year, and has made many solid hires along the way.

Former Baltimore safety coach D’Anton Lynn left the Ravens to become the new defensive coordinator at UCLA. In a move to add back to the defensive backs area of their coaching staff, the Ravens named former Philadelphia Eagles coach Dennard Wilson as their new defensive backs coach.

The former Eagles defensive passing game coordinator/defensive backs coach is looking to improve upon what the Baltimore Ravens currently have in their secondary. Wilson is held in very high regard throughout the NFL, and is another home-run hire for a team that is looking to continue their defensive dominance.

If Wilson can continue the success he had in Philadelphia, then the Ravens’ secondary will likely be one of the top units in the league once again. Wilson is also probably very excited to be back near where he grew up, as he’s locally from Maryland.

Around the North: Ravens hire Dennard Wilson as defensive passing game coordinator

The Ravens have hired a rumored candidate in Cleveland.

There was rumored interest between the Cleveland Browns and defensive coordinator candidate Dennard Wilson to take over as defensive passing game coordinator, a role they have not filled yet. However, after Wilson and the Philadelphia Eagles opted to mutually part ways after he was passed up for their defensive coordinator job, Wilson has chosen to join the Baltimore Ravens instead as their defensive backs coach.

The Browns have not hired (or at least named) a passing game coordinator yet as they broke up their defensive backs coaches by safeties and cornerbacks this time around. Could another hire be on the way or will an experienced play-caller like safeties coach Ephraim Banda take the reigns as passing game coordinator?

Ravens hire Dennard Wilson as DB coach

The Baltimore Ravens are reportedly finalizing a deal to hire former Philadelphia Eagles assistant Dennard Wilson as defensive backs coach

Dennard Wilson is set to land in a comfortable position and he won’t have to venture that far down 95 South to start his new job.

According to Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic, Wilson and the Baltimore Ravens are finalizing a deal to make the former Eagles assistant their new defensive backs coach.

The team just confirmed the deal.

Just 40 years old, Wilson got his start as a scout for the Chicago Bears in 2006 and he’s been climbing the ranks since then. Before joining Sirianni’s staff, Wilson was the defensive passing game coordinator for the New York Jets and helped develop Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye.

This season he led a group that’s among the NFL’s best and Wilson was a huge part of Reed Blankenship’s development as a rookie.

During the coaching cycle, Wilson interviewed for the Browns defensive coordinator job that went to former Eagles assistant coach Jim Schwartz.

Rumored defensive coaching addition one step closer to joining Jim Schwartz

A former defensive coordinator candidate is one step closer to joining Jim Schwartz’s staff.

When the Cleveland Browns were looking to replace Joe Woods at their defensive coordinator post, they brought in Dennard Wilson, who was the passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach for the Philadelphia Eagles, in for an interview. They ultimately hired Jim Schwartz for the job, but now Wilson is one step closer to coming to Cleveland anyway as it was rumored he could after he was passed over for the defensive coordinator gig in Philadelphia.

As the Eagles opted to hire Sean Desai for their post, Wilson has now mutually agreed to part ways with the Eagles. The Browns did not hire a defensive passing game coordinator, nor a defensive backs coach when they announced their staffing adds last week.

Look for Wilson to potentially join the staff of Schwartz soon.
