Colts held tryout for several players

Colts held a tryout for several players on Monday.

The Indianapolis Colts held a tryout for several players on Monday, per the league’s transaction wire.

In total, the Colts had seven free agents at the tryout while five of them were safeties and the other two were centers. Here’s a look at the players who attended the tryout on Monday:

  • C Cohl Cabral
  • C Drake Jackson
  • S Delano Hill
  • S Josh Jones
  • S Lucas Jordan
  • S Will Parks
  • S Andrew Sendejo

It shouldn’t be a surprise that the Colts are working out safeties. They are currently thin at the position with only three players on the active roster in Julian Blackmon, Khari Willis and George Odum.

The elevated veteran Sean Davis from the practice squad for game day, but he has since been returned to the practice squad.

The Colts may also be keeping tabs on the center position given Danny Pinter’s foot injury, which kept him out of the season-opener. They had to elevate Joey Hunt from the practice squad to be the backup to Ryan Kelly.

Delano Hill signs with new NFL team

The former Seattle Seahawks third round pick is en route to the East Coast.

It was perhaps a surprise in 2017 when Michigan football safety Delano Hill found himself going as early as the third round of the NFL draft, with the Seattle Seahawks taking the former Detroit (MI) Cass Tech star.

In Seattle, Hill had his moments, but he was often sidelined with injury, and never quite caught on as a starter. He started six games in 42 appearances and only saw the field in two games in 2020. So perhaps a fresh start is in the cards for the former Wolverines standout.

According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, Hill is signing with the Carolina Panthers as a free agent.

With Seattle, Hill compiled 63 tackles including three for a loss.

A look at Seahawks’ injuries heading into Week 4 against Miami

Coach Pete Carroll provided a number of player injury updates ahead of the team’s Week-4 contest this Sunday in Miami against the Dolphins.

  • The Seattle Seahawks sustained a number of injuries in their 38-31 win over the Dallas Cowboys, but so far, nothing new has panned out to be season-ending.

Coach Pete Carroll provided a number of player updates during his Wednesday afternoon press conference.

He was first asked about running back Chris Carson (knee), center Ethan Pocic (knee) and guard Damien Lewis (ankle) – all who got a bit banged up during the Week-3 contest.

“All three of those guys were at the walk thru today,” Carroll said. “They were all out there and participated in the full walk thru. Chris is really sounding positive, Damien looked pretty good, and Pocic was all right, so we might get a real good turn from those three guys.”

As far as linebacker Jordyn Brooks, he could be out for a bit while he recovers from his knee injury.

“He’s limping a little bit today,” Carroll confirmed. “He’s pretty sore. It’s going to be a real challenge for him to make it back as stiff as he is right now. He got whacked pretty good, so we’ll have to wait and see.”

Safety Jamal Adams could be sidelined for some time as well as he deals with his groin strain by undergoing “massive treatments” to speed up the process.

Finally, Carroll gave some information on the three players who were inactive last Sunday against the Cowboys: safety Lano Hill (back), cornerback Quinton Dunbar (knee) and cornerback Neiko Thorpe (groin).

Carroll said all three players are trying to make it back this week but will go all the way to game-day before a final decision is made.

Former Michigan safety seals game for Seattle on last play against Patriots

The former Michigan football safety made the game-saving play for the Seattle Seahawks.

There were a lot of former Wolverines partaking in the NFL’s Sunday night matchup between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks.

And multiple Wolverines made big plays — ahem, Chase Winovich — but the biggest came on the final play of the game.

On the road, down five with just three seconds remaining, the Patriots had the ball on the two-yard line and brought in a jumbo package with former Michigan right guard Michael Onwenu on the left side of the line and a tight end on the other side of him. But the Seahawks had an answer: his former Detroit (MI) Cass Tech and Michigan teammate Lano Hill.

Hill, a safety, saved the game for Seattle, as he went low, taking out the tight end and eventually QB Cam Newton, who kept the ball — a play that had been unstoppable up until that point.

It might have been a Wolverine-on-Wolverine crime — albeit, not directly — but with both teams having two active players who played in Ann Arbor, at least two former maize and blue left the game happy.
