Semaj Fuse on Rutgers football, updates his recruitment

Semaj Fuse talks about how things are going with Rutgers football.

Semaj Fuse didn’t attend the recruiting weekend hosted by Rutgers football this weekend, but that doesn’t mean that the Scarlet Knights aren’t doing well in his recruitment.

A 6-foot-2, 250-pound defensive lineman from Washington High School (Washington, PA), Fuse was offered by Rutgers the previous June. He currently holds offers from Akron and Miami (Ohio) in addition to Rutgers.

Old Dominion, Penn State, Pittsburgh and Toldeo are showing Fuse steady interest this offseason.

Fuse said that for him, his understanding of the program and their values really stand out in his recruitment. He said he is feeling some “serious interest” from the Rutgers football staff.

“For me, it is the passion for the game that they show,” Fuse said. “And when someone has almost if not more passion in that same interest it just creates a spark.”

The Rutgers staff has been consistent in their recruitment of Fuse, forming what he says is a good connection with the program. When asked about his connection with the coaching staff, Fuse made it clear that there is a strong bond present.

“Amazing it feels like you’ve known them for years,” Fuse said.

“That is how easy it is to form a connection and conversations just flow.”

ICYMI: Ian Strong, Davoun Fuse highlight positional changes of the spring for Rutgers football

Two true freshmen have moved positions for Rutgers football.

PISCATAWAY, N.J. — There were two positional changes for Rutgers football true freshmen this spring that were highlighted by the Scarlet-White Game flip card.

Both moves see true freshmen, who enrolled this spring, move from the defense to the offense.

Ian Strong’s move from safety to wide receiver is a fascinating one given that the true freshman was an elite defensive back out of high school in Long Island. With his length and size not to mention his effortless strides, Strong has the ability to be a playmaker at wide receiver.

Another move from defense to offense is Davoun Fuse, a true freshman and a former three-star recruit from Pennsylvania. A quarterback in high school, Fuse came into the program as a linebacker this January but his tremendous athleticism sees him back to the offense.

Fuse has added about 20 pounds from his listed weight while in high school.

Rutgers lacks depth at wide receiver is underscored by the loss of their three leading wide receivers from last year due to graduation.

Rutgers football 2023 commit Davoun Fuse’s film analysis

Signing his letter of intent, Rutgers football landed defensive prospect Davoun Fuse. How can Fuse contribute to the Scarlet Knights?

Rutgers football landed an athletic defensive prospect when 2023 recruit Davoun Fuse signed his letter of intent in December. The Scarlet Knights recruited the Pennsylvania native as a linebacker, knowing he was a quarterback in high school.

While attending Washington High School in Washington, PA, Fuse played quarterback and defensive back for the Prexies. The three-star recruit was a multiple sport athlete in high school, playing basketball and track in the offseason.

During his senior year, the 6-foot-4 200-pound prospect led his team to a 7-5 record and a Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League 2A quarterfinal appearance. Before the start of the season, Fuse got selected 2022 preseason conference all-star.

Fuse also threw for 11 touchdowns and ran in 14 as a junior, earning him MVP honors in the Class 2A Century Conference. According to 247Sports, Fuse is a top 25 prospect, ranking him 22nd in Pennsylvania. Among his recruiting class, Fuse is the nation’s No. 111 athlete prospect.

His athleticism will allow him to play multiple positions as his career develops. Fuse has excellent ball instincts while playing defensive back. With his quarterback knowledge, Fuse can read opposing routes, baiting the quarterback into bad decisions. He has excellent hands and can force a ton of pass breakups. Also, he has great tackling technique, using his shoulder pads instead of his helmet.

Fuse can be a dynamic punt returner on special teams since he has experience returning kicks. He can thrive on special teams, as an athletic playmaker.

Fuse is undersized for a Big Ten linebacker. Rutgers defensive coordinator Joe Harasymiak will try to utilize Fuse in the secondary, adding much-needed depth. As Fuse develops into a Big Ten player, it will be interesting to see what role he will inherit.
