The Davey O’Brien Award preseason watch list is out, and it names 36 of the most talented quarterbacks in college football.
Will Howard, the expected Ohio State starter, is among them. Numerous other Big Ten quarterbacks like Dillon Gabriel from Oregon and Penn State’s Drew Allar were also among them.
Howard has yet to be named the starter and is still in a quarterback battle with Devin Brown, but the former Kansas State starter is the likely starting option. He threw for 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while eclipsing 2,400 passing yards with the Wildcats last season.
He and 35 other quarterbacks were named to the list. There is a midseason list which will be announced on Oct. 29 and then the 48th Annual Davey O’Brien Awards Dinner will be on Feb. 17, 2025.

Former star quarterback Troy Smith, in 2006, was the last, and only, Ohio State player to win the award. Alabama and LSU have combined for four of the last five winners.
