Michigan football has had an offense that spreads things about among personnel, partially because it can, but also because there hasn’t been a single standout wideout this season.

With the newest commit, perhaps that could change.

The Wolverines got Portland (Ore.) Westview four-star wide receiver Darrius Clemons to campus just before the dead period and apparently blew him away. While some other contenders got in the mix late Tuesday, it wasn’t enough to deter the elite wideout, rated No. 47 overall by On3. Deciding between the maize and blue, Auburn, Penn State, Oregon and Miami, Clemons announced on CBS Sports HQ that he’ll be playing football in Ann Arbor for the foreseeable future.

He already endeared himself to Michigan fans during his live pledge by saying, ‘Beat Ohio!’

Clemons clocks in at 6-foot-3, 205-pounds and runs a blazing fast 4.37 40-yard dash. 247Sports compares him to former Penn State wide receiver Allen Robinson.

Michigan football trending for 2022 four-star receiver

If #Michigan can get him, it would be a game-changer!

A mixture of upheaval in the coaching ranks and Michigan football making the College Football Playoff looks like it may start to pay dividends.

The early signing period begins on Wednesday, and the Wolverines are still looking to add to their 2022 class. With one wide receiver in the fold in four-star Tyler Morris, the former high school teammate of J.J. McCarthy at Nazareth Academy, the maize and blue are hoping to attract another elite talent to play alongside him.

Enter Portland (Ore.) Westview four-star wideout Darrius Clemons, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound speedster who runs a reported 4.37 40-yard dash. Clemons officially visited Ann Arbor this past weekend and with early signing day fast approaching, did Michigan make enough of a good impression?

It appears so, as 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong and Brandon Huffman both put in predictions that Clemons will pledge to the Wolverines.

The 247Sports Composite has Clemons rated as the No. 131 player in the 2022 class, regardless of position, the 19th-best receiver and top player in the state of Oregon.

247Sports’ Huffman likens him to former Penn State star Allen Robinson in his evaluation:

Has terrific body control and ability to adjust to all passes, both low and high, with strong hands able to catch everything in traffic. Polished route runner with ability to catch passes in tight spaces. Tough over the middle. Consistently gets separation. Projects as multi-year Power 5 starter and projects as second day pick.

While Oregon still has more overall predictions, all of them were made before Mario Cristobal bolted for Miami this past week. He did receive two December predictions for Auburn, but both came in before he visited Ann Arbor.

Josh Gattis and Ron Bellamy are recruiting him for the Wolverines.

Darrius Clemons officially visits Michigan

Darrius Clemons is at a competing school today.

Another contender has emerged in the Darrius Clemons sweepstakes.

Clemons, who had narrowed his commitment to Auburn, Penn State and Oregon, is taking an official visit to Michigan this weekend.

Auburn was one time the favorite for the four-star wide receiver Clemons, but Oregon surged ahead for the Portland, Oregon native. However, with Mario Cristobal leaving the Ducks for Miami, Auburn has reentered the mix for the No. 19 wide receiver and No. 131 national recruit in the 247Sports Composite ranking.

While Clemons is visiting Michigan this weekend Auburn was able to secure an in-home visit with him on Wednesday. Bryan Harsin and receivers coach Eric Kiesau visited him and it reportedly went well.

Landing Clemons, who will sign on Dec. 15 and is an early enrollee would be a major boost to Auburn’s recruiting class. The Tigers are in need of playmakers at receiver and the 6-foot-3, 205-pound Clemons is just that.

Can Auburn land Darrius Clemons?

This could be huge for Auburn.

The recruitment of Darrius Clemons has taken another twist.

Clemons has had a dramatic and unpredictable recruitment, but Auburn may be able to reenter the picture for the talented wide receiver.

Auburn was at one point seen as the leader for the 4-star wide receiver but then Auburn fired his primary recruiter and position coach Cornelius Williams and Oregon ramped up their recruitment of the Portland, Oregon native.

This led to the Ducks becoming the leader and Auburn seemingly falling out of the race. However, Oregon head coach Mario Cristobal is heavily rumored to be heading to Miami to become the head coach of the Hurricanes. Also, Oregon offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead has accepted the Akron head coaching job. This has opened the door for Auburn and the Tigers will look to capitalize on the turmoil in Oregon.

It will be very important for Auburn to visit Clemons and it is worth mentioning the Tigers have yet to hire an offensive coordinator after moving on from Mike Boob, something that could impact Clemons.

Landing Clemons would be a major boost for Auburn’s recruiting class, Clemons is rated as the 22nd best receiver and 147th best recruit overall in the 247Sports composite ranking. He would become Auburn’s highest-ranked recruit. Auburn’s recruiting class currently ranks 12th in the SEC and 33rd in the country and has commitments from 4-star athlete Omari Kelly and 3-star receiver Jay Fair.

Report: Oregon’s 5-star OT Kelvin Banks skipped Texas A&M trip, could still visit Texas

Oregon’s 5-star OT commit Kelvin Banks canceled his visit to Texas A&M last week, which feels like a big win for the Ducks.

A week ago, there were a lot of concerns when it came to the Oregon Ducks recruiting trail, especially after a pair of blue-chip wide receivers announced that they were de-committing from the Ducks and choosing new schools to sign with.

On top of that, there was news that Oregon’s 5-star OT commit Kelvin Banks was taking an official visit to Texas A&M, despite remaining solid in his commitment to the Ducks.

The Oregonian’s Andrew Nemec reports on Wednesday that Banks didn’t end up taking that trip to College Station, which is a nice little win for some understandably troubled Duck fans.

As it turns out, Oregon five-star offensive line pledge Kelvin Banks not only didn’t visit Texas A&M last weekend as planned, he also isn’t sure if he’ll ever take a trip there.

“I didn’t make it,” he told me Tuesday evening. “That’s probably done.”

The Ducks aren’t entirely out of the woods yet, though, as Banks still may visit Texas.

“I might go to Texas, but not for sure yet,” he said.
Oregon fans have the right to be a little bit gun-shy after the loss of both 4-star WR Isaiah Santegna and 4-star WR Nicholas Anderson, but it feels like Banks is pretty solid in the camp of the Ducks. The loss of those two receivers may not end up being a death sentence in the end, either, with Oregon looking more and more likely to sign a pair of blue-chip WRs in the coming months, with Portland 4-star Darrius Clemons leaning heavily towards the Ducks, and 5-star WR Kevin Coleman making a visit to Eugene this weekend and reportedly calling Oregon his “dream school.”
A lot can change on a daily basis in the recruiting world, so none of this is a sure thing, but the mood seems to be leveling out for the Ducks after a tough past week on the recruiting trail.

4-star Darrius Clemons may be close to picking Auburn

Man … How huge would this be?

Auburn may have another huge 2022 commitment on the way soon

Darrius Clemons, the four-star receiver from Oregon, has been a big target for Bryan Harsin’s staff since he arrived on the plains.

Auburn recruiting expert, Jeffrey Lee of Auburn Live, talked about Clemons and what he thinks about the Tigers when he joined the “Locked On Auburn” podcast.

“He came in for an official visit in June,” Lee said. “Came back on his own dime, he and his parents are flying from Oregon to Auburn for the season opener. I really think that all that’s lacking with him making a decision is, Oregon has three or four wide receivers committed who are the same size as Darrius. I think that kind of hurts them there. But I think Darrius really likes Auburn. I think he liked Bryan Harsin.

“He was the first guy that he and his staff offered when he got to Auburn and it meant a lot to him and he came and looked back in June and loved the people.”

4-star WR Darrius Clemons, the No. 1 player in Oregon, places Ducks in top 3

The Ducks are looking to keep the top talent in Oregon, landing in the top 3 for 4-star WR Darrius Clemons, the top-ranked player in the state.

The mark of a great recruiting team is when you can keep the best talent in your home state.

That’s exactly what the Oregon Ducks are trying to do, landing in the top 3 for the recruitment of Darrius Clemons, a 4-star wide receiver from Westview High School who is ranked as the No. 1 player in the state of Oregon.

Clemons, who stands at 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, will ultimately choose between the Ducks, Penn State, and Auburn.

The four-star wide receiver ranks No. 134 overall and the 20th best wide receiver on the 247 Sports composite. Clemons would walk into a great situation with the Ducks, joining a receiving corp that includes both Troy Franklin and Dont’e Thornton, with either Ty Thompson, Jay Butterfield, or Robby Ashford throwing him the ball.

“Has terrific body control and ability to adjust to all passes, both low and high, with strong hands able to catch everything in traffic,” said National Recruiting editor Brandon Huffman, according to Duck Territory. “Polished route runner with the ability to catch passes in tight spaces. Tough over the middle. Consistently gets separation. Projects as multi-year Power 5 starter and projects as a second-day pick.”

Can Penn State beat Auburn and Oregon for four-star receiver?

Penn State is up against Auburn and Oregon for the commitment of four-star receiver in Class of 2022

Penn State’s Class of 2022 continues to impress, but can it find a way to add a four-star wide receiver from the west coast to the mix?

The Nittany Lions were among the three teams appearing in the top three of Oregon wide receiver Darrius Clemons. Clemons, who shared his top three on Twitter on Sunday, has Penn State in the running along with Auburn and Oregon.

Clemons made an official visit to Auburn at the beginning of June and one to Penn State at the end of June. He also took an official visit to USC and one to Michigan, although the Wolverines and Trojans each appear to be out of the mix for now. While he did not make an official visit to Oregon, his proximity to the campus may mean he already has a feel for what the Ducks can offer.

The crystal ball predictions on 247 Sports lean in favor of Oregon over Penn State by a two-thirds majority. Pulling a four-star receiver away from Oregon from the state of Oregon would be a major recruiting victory for James Franklin and his staff. How likely that is to happen is in question.

Penn State has already addressed the wide receiver position pretty well in the Class of 2022 with the additions of Kaden Saunders, Mehki Flowers, and Anthony Ivey. All three are four-star recruits. Penn State also added a commitment from four-star tight end Jerry Cross and three-star receiver Tyler Johnson. Penn State also has a quarterback to go with all of the incoming targets with Drew Allar.

Penn State currently has the No. 2 ranking in the Class of 2022 according to 247 Sports. The addition of Clemons would help solidify that ranking as Penn State begins to finish up its current recruiting cycle.

Notre Dame makes offer to 2022 star wideout

Darrius Clemons already has a bunch of scholarship offers. Today the 2022 wide receiver added one from Notre Dame. Who else has offered?

Wednesday was a busy day in the Notre Dame recruiting world as they landed their 13th commitment in the 2021 class from Chance Tucker, a three-star corner from California.

Notre Dame also got word that they’ll know if they ultimately land a commitment from Michigan’s top receiver in the 2021 class as he announced Wednesday that he’ll be announcing his school choice on July 31.

And the 2022 recruiting class saw another scholarship offer get made, this one to a star receiver.

Darrius Clemons is a four-star wide receiver from Portland, Oregon and holds over 20 offers already.  Notre Dame joined the party on Wednesday as they extended a scholarship offer his way.

Just two days ago the University of Washington offered Clemons and on July 12 it was Stanford who did the same.

Oregon, Michigan, Minnesota, Penn State and Kansas State are among the over 20 schools to offer.

Clemons checks in at 6-3, 195 pounds and drew a comparison to Allen Robinson of the Chicago Bears by 247Sports National Recruiting Editor, Brandon Huffman.

It’s still plenty early in the game for Clemons and the rest of the 2022 class but Notre Dame would like to see their first commitment to that class come sooner rather than later.
