Giants place Darren Waller, Tyrod Taylor on injured reserve

The New York Giants have placed TE Darren Waller and QB Tyrod Taylor on injured reserve along with several other transactions.

The New York Giants have placed tight end Darren Waller (hamstring) and quarterback Tyrod Taylor (ribs) on injured reserve (IR). The pair will miss at least the next four games.

Waller suffered a hamstring injury during a Week 8 loss to the New York Jets that he says was unrelated to the hamstring issue he dealt with earlier this year.

Taylor was injured in the same game and transported to a local hospital where he remained overnight.

Waller and Taylor join kicker Graham Gano, who was also placed on IR this week with a knee injury. He is expected to undergo surgery in the coming days but stopped short of saying his season is over.

“No. Nobody’s told me that,” Gano said when asked if he’s been told his season is over. “But my mindset is always if I’m dealing with some adversity, just attack it, and do what I can with it.”

In place of Gano, the Giants signed kicker Cade York off the Tennessee Titans’ practice squad. They also signed kicker Randy Bullock to the practice squad and elevated him ahead of their Week 9 game against the Las Vegas Raiders, providing them with two active kickers for the game.

Additionally, the Giants elevated linebacker Justin Hollins from the practice squad and signed tight end Lawrence Cager to their 53-man roster from the reserve unit.

Rookie Tommy DeVito will serve as the backup quarterback on Sunday.

Giants vs. Raiders: 5 biggest storylines for Week 9

The New York Giants face the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 9. Here are the five biggest storylines to follow for this contest.

The New York Giants (2-5) head west to take on the Las Vegas Raiders (3-5) this Sunday afternoon at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada.

Here are five storylines we are following in Week 9.

Raiders vs Giants final injury report: LB Divine Deablo, FB Jakob Johnson both OUT

LB Divine Deablo and LB Luke Masterson OUT. LB Robert Spillane Questionable. Yikes.

The final injury report is out and so too are several Raiders players. Among them is linebacker Divine Deablo (ankle), LB Luke Masterson (concussion), fullback Jakob Johnson (concussion), and tackle Thayer Munford (neck).

As if it the linebacker corps wasn’t already thin, Robert Spillane is officially Questionable with an injured hand.

Last Sunday the Raiders found themselves down to Amari Burney and Curtis Bolton at linebacker. They signed Jaylon Smith this week off the Saints practice squad. It may be too much to ask him to be ready in a matter of days, so they will certainly be hoping at very least Spillane can go.

The Giants will be without former Raiders TE Darren Waller who suffered a hamstring injury last week, making his return to Las Vegas not as he had hoped.

Also OUT for the Giants is QB Tyrod Taylor and K Graham Gano.

Questionable are OL Evan Neal (ankle), OL Andrew Thomas (hamstring), and RB Jashaun Corbin (hamstring).

Giants’ Darren Waller, Tyrod Taylor may land on IR

New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll leaves open the possibility that TE Darren Waller and QB Tyrod Taylor land on injured reserve.

The New York Giants’ season has not been what anyone expected after how much potential they showed last season. While not everything can be blamed on injuries, a lot of the problems stem from missing personnel.

That situation isn’t going to get better as both quarterback Tyrod Taylor and tight end Darren Waller could soon land on injured reserve (IR), says head coach Brian Daboll.

Both Taylor and Waller left the game against the New York Jets on Sunday in the first half and have been ruled out for a Week 9 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Taylor spent one night at the hospital under observation for a rib cage injury. Waller left the game with a hamstring injury, which is unrelated to the hamstring injury he previously endured.

Although Waller and Taylor are out, the Giants will see the return of quarterback Daniel Jones and the potential returns of both left tackle Andrew Thomas and right tackle Evan Neal.

Fellow quarterback Tyrod Taylor has been officially ruled out for a Week 9 game against the Las Vegas Raiders and Tommy DeVito was given the nod as the team’s No. 2.

In addition to Taylor, tight Darren Waller has been ruled out for Sunday’s game, which was expected given that he’ll miss several weeks.

Daboll implied that both Taylor and Waller could land on injured reserve (IR) in the near future.

Giants vs. Raiders: 3 causes for concern in Week 9

The New York Giants square off in a Sunday afternoon battle against the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 9. Here are three reasons for concern.

The New York Giants will battle the Las Vegas Raiders on the road this Sunday afternoon.

The matchup has taken all types of twists and turns this week. Following the firing of head coach Josh McDaniels, the Giants will be going up against interim head coach Antonio Pierce, who won a Super Bowl with Big Blue back in 2008.

There have also been updates on both quarterback situations as Daniel Jones is expected to return, while the Raiders have benched quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.

With all of this going on, the Giants remain 1.5-point underdogs as of this writing.

Here are three causes for concern ahead of the Week 9 game.

Giants’ Darren Waller likely out weeks with hamstring injury

New York Giants TE Darren Waller doesn’t know how much time he’ll miss with a hamstring injury but it could “potentially” be weeks.

New York Giants tight end Darren Waller left Sunday’s 13-10 overtime loss to the New York Jets as the result of a hamstring injury.

Initially, it appeared that Waller had reaggravated a hamstring issue he had already been dealing with but revealed after the game that it was an entirely new injury.

“This one is down by where the tendon attaches to the knee,” Waller explained.

Waller was sidelined during practice on Wednesday and later admitted that he could “potentially” miss several weeks.

“The amount of weeks I’m not that sure,” Waller told reporters. “But it may take a little bit.”

Losing Waller for an extended period of time is a big hit for the Giants offensively. He is their leading receiver with 36 catches for 384 yards and one touchdown, and is really the only mismatch threat they have on the field.

Waller, who has a history of hamstring issues, described this latest setback as “very frustrating” and “a little bit discouraging.”

After the Giants play the Las Vegas Raiders this Sunday, they have back-to-back division games against the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Commanders.

Raiders vs Giants Wednesday injury report: TE Darren Waller (hamstring) unlikely to face former team

Giants TE Darren Waller (hamstring) unlikely to face former team

You can bet the moment this year’s schedule came out, Darren Waller had Week nine circled on his calendar. Back in March, the Raiders traded the former Pro Bowl tight end to New York for a third round pick (100 overall).

Presumably one of the reasons now former GM Dave Ziegler made the move was because Waller had missed eight games in the 2022. And Waller has not missed a game this season for the Giants. A string that appears likely to end this Sunday.

Waller did not practice Wednesday with a hamstring injury.

That alone isn’t cause for immediate concern. But Waller himself is concerned his injury could not only have him missing the opportunity to face his former team, but cost him several more weeks as well.

It was a hamstring issue that plagued Waller last season which caused him to miss as much time as he did. And surely it’s quite frustrating. Waller was on pace to reach 85 catches for 923 yards this season before the injury, which would be his third best NFL season behind his 2019 and 2020 seasons with the Raiders — the latter had him in the Pro Bowl.

Funny thing is, while he is watching from the sideline at Allegiant, the coach and GM who traded him will be watching from home.

See it: Saquon Barkley welcomes Daniel Jones back to practice with bear hug

New York Giants QB Daniel Jones returned to practice on Wednesday without limitation, while OLs Andrew Thomas and Evan Neal were limited.

The New York Giants returned to the practice field on Wednesday and as expected, quarterback Daniel Jones (neck) resumed his role with the first team unit.

Jones was officially cleared for contact on Sunday and barring any setbacks, will start against the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.

Running back Saquon Barkley, who is nursing an elbow injury, was thrilled to see his friend on the field.

“It’s just good to have another player out there with DJ, I know he’s excited. He’s played with Saquon for a bit so it’s just good to have him back,” head coach Brian Daboll told reporters.

Meanwhile, offensive tackles Andrew Thomas and Evan Neal are each inching closer to a return.

The Giants’ full Wednesday injury report can be found below:

Did not participate: TE Darren Waller (hamstring), QB Tyrod Taylor (ribs)

Limited participant: OL Andrew Thomas (hamstring), OL Evan Neal (ankle), WR Wan’Dale Robinson (knee), RB Saquon Barkley (elbow), LB Kayvon Thibodeaux (back), K Graham Gano (knee)

Full participant: QB Daniel Jones (neck)

Giants’ Darren Waller says new hamstring injury unrelated to previous one

Giants TE Darren Waller left Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury and says it’s unrelated to the one he dealt with earlier this season.

New York Giants tight end Darren Waller injured his hamstring in Sunday’s game against the New York Jets in the first half and did not return.

It was initially thought that he re-aggravated the left hamstring that had caused him to appear on injury reports the past few weeks, but Waller told reporters after the game it was not.

Waller said the injury is new and in a different location this time.

“This one is down by where the tendon attaches to the knee,” Waller explained.

Waller has a history of hamstring issues and has missed games in the past. Last season with the Las Vegas Raiders, Waller missed eight games due to a hamstring injury.

Waller has appeared on the Giants’ injury report sporadically this season with the left hamstring issue but has not missed any games. Given his history — and the average time missed by NFL tight ends due to hamstring injuries (2.5 weeks) — Waller could be out a few weeks.
