Report: Giants to release UDFA DE Dana Levine

The move will clear space for Markus Golden on the Giants’ 90-man roster.

The New York Giants will reportedly release undrafted free agent defensive end, Dana Levine, which will clear roster space for outside linebacker Markus Golden.

According to ESPN’s Jordan Ranaan, the move to part ways with Levine will enable the Giants to get to a 90-man training camp roster once Golden’s deal is finalized.

Golden, who the Giants used a rare May 5 tender on earlier this offseason, has already reported to camp to begin Covid-19 testing and is expected to finalize his contract in the coming days after he passes multiple tests and a physical.

The decision to carry 90 players means New York will have to use a split squad approach in training camp to start, but will eventually have to cut the roster down to 80 players by August 16, per the agreement between the NFL and NFLPA.

Golden was the team’s best pass-rusher in 2019, posting a team-high 10 sacks in his first season in New York.

Giants add two, waive one to level roster at 90 players

The New York Giants have signed two more undrafted rookie free agents and released one to level their roster at 90 players.

The New York Giants are now at the league maximum of 90 players after making three roster moves on Thursday.

The club signed rookie free agents tight end Rysen John of Simon Fraser and defensive end Dana Levine of Temple, and waived defensive end Kevin Wilkins.

John, a 6-foot-7, 237 pounder out of Simon Fraser University in British Columbia, played in 25 games and caught 112 passes for 1,675 yards and 19 touchdowns.

John was selected first-team All-Great Northwest Athletic Conference after catching 53 passes for 861 yards and 10 touchdowns. He is named after former NFL star wide receiver Andre Rison (yes, we realize the spelling is different). John is now one of seven tight ends on the Giants’ roster.

Levine is a 6-foot-4, 235 pound prospect that played mainly defensive end in his four years at Temple.

Levine amassed 91 tackles (52 solo and 18.5 tackles for a loss) with 11.0 sacks and four forced fumbles. Last season, he had career highs of 11 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks in his 32 total tackles, 19 of which were solo.

The rush to sign undrafted rookie free agents is underway! Here’s a live 2020 scorecard for the New York Giants.

The 2020 NFL Draft is now officially over and the frenzy to sign undrafted rookie free agents (UDFA) is underway. For general manager Dave Gettleman and the New York Giants, they’ll look to add several players prior to the start of rookie mini-camp — whenever it is that may begin (if at all).

It’s important to note that UDFA signings are not announced by the NFL, so some initial reports may be incorrect, changed or, unfortunately, outright faked. Until the Giants themselves announce the signings, these should all be considered rumors and subject to change.

As signings and rookie mini-camp invites are reported, we’ll update this article, so keep hammering that F5 button.
