The Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles have hired a pair of Georgia Bulldogs analysts to become assistant coaches in their program.
The Golden Eagles have tabbed Greg Meyer, who was serving as a special teams analyst for the University of Georgia, as their special teams coach. Meyer has earned his promotion. Him and Scott Cochran helped Georgia have one of the top special teams units in the country this season.
Meyer has had previous stints as Eastern Kentucky’s special teams coordinator and running back coach, as a Tennessee special teams quality control coach, and other roles at Cincinnati and Mississippi State.
Additionally, Southern Miss is poaching Dan O’Brien from the Georgia Bulldogs football program as well. O’Brien previously was a defensive quality control analyst at Georgia. Now, he’ll be coaching the safeties for Southern Miss.
O’Brien, the son of former NC State coach Tom O’Brien, previously spent the several years as a safeties coach under Ken Niumatalolo at Navy. He additionally has experience under Bill Belichick as a New England Patriots scouting assistant intern.
The duo are Georgia’s first staffing loses of the coaching cycle.
