Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard shared a really sweet embrace after winning the NBA Cup

What a sweet moment for Giannis and Dame.

The Milwaukee Bucks have officially rebounded after a tough start to the 2024 season.

The team took home the 2024 NBA Cup on Tuesday night in a 97-81 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder in Las Vegas on Tuesday night, giving Milwaukee some much-needed momentum going back into the regular season.

After the game, Bucks superstars Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard shared a really sweet moment on the court to celebrate such a hard-fought run in this year’s NBA Cup tournament.

The two gave each other a big, long hug, and you could tell what a relief it was for both of these outstanding NBA players to get this tournament win.

Things weren’t looking so great for the Bucks earlier in the season, but the team is 14-11 and very much a contender in the Eastern Conference. That’s worth embracing over if you’re Milwaukee.

The Bucks are the new NBA Cup champions after beating the Oklahoma City Thunder 97-81 in Las Vegas. Milwaukee took control in the third quarter as Giannis Antetokounmpo delivered another legendary performance with a 26-19-10 triple-double. Damian Lillard helped the NBA Cup Finals MVP with 23 points and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 21 points on 8-24 shooting.

Davante Adams’ trade request is somehow the final straw for Damian Lillard’s Raiders fandom

It’s shocking it took this long for Damian Lillard to consider giving up on the Raiders.

As a Bay Area native, Milwaukee Bucks superstar Damian Lillard has been a long-time Las Vegas Raiders fan. And, to put it lightly, he’s endured so much. A blowout loss in Super Bowl 37. From JaMarcus Russell to Derek Carr, so many quarterbacks who either failed or just petered out. Trading Khalil Mack in his prime. A move from classic Oakland to Nevada. Oh, and you know, all the last-place seasons over the years.

Yet, somehow, the Raiders potentially trading Davante Adams would be the last straw in Lillard’s fandom. Talk about a patient fan.

In what I imagine is a common feeling right now among any remaining Raiders fans, Lillard claimed that the franchise trading an All-Pro caliber receiver would have him finally give up on his favorite football team:

Listen, man, I don’t begrudge any Raiders fan who feels like this. They have put their fans through the wringer for decades. Trading Adams might be the right long-term move for Las Vegas, but that wouldn’t necessarily take away the immediate sting of losing someone who made fans’ experience with the team worth watching. Because, you know, the prospect of being better in the future with more draft capital isn’t necessarily guaranteed.

Lillard and probably all Raiders fans have simply had enough.

A reporter hilariously asked Damian Lillard about Glorilla’s crush on him

It’s 2 PM at Media Day

There seemed to be a little something brewing between Damian Lillard and Glorilla this spring.

The rapper shot her shot at Lillard toward the end of the NBA season. She confessed to having a crush on the Bucks point guard and even put on a GloLillard jersey to show her love.

Lillard was asked about it back then and, well, he didn’t really seem to shut things down. He gave a “no comment,” but you know how that goes.

Well, now, he’s being asked about it again. This time, it happened at Bucks media day. And now Lillard is saying there’s not really anything there, if there ever was.

“I keep my personal life personal and I let it be that. I respect her as an artist. We know each other,” he said. “But as far as anything else, it ain’t nothing going on. That’s what I can tell you.”

Interesting answer, Dame. Interesting.

Alright, guys. I guess there’s nothing going on there. Still, this is a hilarious question for Lillard to get. And then to add the 7 PM Friday song on at the end? Chef’s Kiss.

Great question.

Bucks’ AJ Johnson pulled up to Damian Lillard’s Formula Zero Elite Camp

Bucks rookie AJ Johnson was among those in attendance at teammate Damian Lillard’s Formula Zero Elite Camp last week.

Milwaukee Bucks rookie AJ Johnson was among those in attendance at teammate Damian Lillard’s Formula Zero Elite Camp last week in Phoenix, Arizona.

The elite-level basketball camp hosts the top high school and collegiate players yearly, free of charge. The players work to develop their on-court skills with Lillard and hear from an assortment of speakers, including Bucks coach Doc Rivers.

Baylor freshman VJ Edgecombe and Miami freshman Jalil Bethea were named MVPs of the event as players who will use the information received to take “their game and lives to the next level.” They received custom Tissot watches for winning the award.

Johnson was pictured with Lillard on the court, one of his first opportunities to hit the gym with his new teammate. Lillard likely used the camp, in part, to get to know Johnson a bit more and start building chemistry with one of the newest members of the team.

The 23rd pick, a four-star recruit out of California, played last season with the Illawarra Hawks in the NBL as part of the “Next Stars” program. He averaged 2.9 points and 1.3 rebounds in 26 appearances with the Hawks in the regular season.

Johnson debuted with the Bucks in the NBA Summer League, averaging 11.2 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.8 assists on 32.3% shooting from 3-point range. He scored in double figures three times, including 22 points, four rebounds and four assists on July 16.

UNC freshman named Formula Zero Camp ‘Most Improved Player’

This UNC freshman sensation was named Most Improved Player at the 2024 Formula Zero Elite Camp this past weekend.

The 2024 Formula Zero Elite Camp brought in the top incoming college freshman and the top recruits from the next class in a battle of wills and desires over the last weekend.

UNC basketball freshman Ian Jackson, the No. 8 overall recruit in the incoming class, was selected as one of the counselors throughout the duration of the Damian-Lillard-run camp.

Not only was it noteworthy for Jackson to be selected, but he was also awarded the Most Improved Player award for the counselors alongside Tajh Ariza, from the Class of 2026, for the players.

Jackson can be seen in the video below posted by Overtime Elite drawing up the game-winning play for his team in the camp. This type of leadership is crucial to see amongst a freshman that will likely take the starting spot in the roster.

Jackson will help lead the Tar Heels this season alongside the backcourt of senior RJ Davis and sophomore Elliot Cadeau. Jackson can trust that he will always have a future in coaching when he is done with his dynamic playing career.

Two UNC freshmen get leadership opportunity at Lillard’s camp

Two UNC freshmen will get the opportunity to compete again and lead some of the nation’s top high school players this week.

Beginning today, James Brown and Ian Jackson will get an opportunity to be college counselors in Damian Lillard’s Formula Zero Elite Camp. The two UNC freshmen will look to use this opportunity and bring heightened skills back to Chapel Hill both on the court and in their leadership capabilities.

According to Lillard’s website, the camp’s purpose is to take the top 20 high school players in the nation and pair them with the top 20 college counselors in the country.

They will compete with and against each other for the next three days in Phoenix, Arizona.

Lillard also said, “The Formula is not fake or superficial, It is a catalyst for real change.” That is what Tar Heel fans should want to hear about two potential big-impact freshmen.

The opportunity to mentor and lead the next generation of young basketball stars should translate back to their leadership with their peers on the court this season.

Some other notable names joining them as counselors will be Kansas’ AJ Storr, Florida State‘s Jamir Watkins, and Kentucky’s Koby Brea.

There will be several influential high school stars there including Jasper Johnson, a player that UNC has been linked to and highly recruiting in the past couple of weeks among others.

Jrue Holiday’s Celtics resurgence is a celebration of what makes Boston great, not an indictment of the Bucks

The Bucks shouldn’t be blamed for trading Jrue Holiday.

After leaving the Milwaukee Bucks (and, shortly, the Portland Trail Blazers), Jrue Holiday has become a dream addition to the Boston Celtics. He’s one of the main reasons Boston is two wins away from its first NBA title since 2008. Full stop.

The veteran point guard’s on-ball pressure is a terrific asset to a Boston team with arguably the NBA’s finest perimeter defense. He’s also settled in nicely as an ancillary fifth scoring option who can make open shots when they come to him. Holiday has enough responsibility to thrive at what he does best without overexerting himself.

In Boston’s selfless environment, where everyone is celebrated and empowered, he fits like a glove.

While it can be tempting to lambast the Bucks for giving up on Holiday, they were never going to be able to offer him the same set-up. They needed someone with a different skill set in their backcourt to become a title contender again, namely someone like Damian Lillard.

Both statements can be and are true. Hindsight isn’t always 20-20.

Aside from Giannis Antetokounmpo’s injury, the biggest reason the first-seeded Bucks fell short during the 2023 playoffs was their lack of a true secondary scoring option. Khris Middleton’s injuries took their toll, and a defense-first Milwaukee couldn’t muster up enough consistently dynamic offense in a first-round upset against the Miami Heat.

The Bucks became predictable, a team without any real threatening punch, and they exited the playoffs accordingly.

Getting a running mate for Antetokounmpo — someone who could take much of the scoring burden off his hands — was a must. Someone like Lillard, a player who can shoot and score from anywhere while thriving as a focal point of the opposition’s game plan. The Bucks could figure out their point-of-attack defense later. They had no choice — they had to.

(Note: They didn’t this season, but it’s still less of a long-term concern with a feeble offense.)

As good as Holiday was, he was miscast in Milwaukee. Even en route to the Bucks’ 2021 title, he was a defense-first player often asked to score too much, a guard who needed less attention from the other team to be effective on the offensive end. That is fine. Those have always been his limitations, but they hurt a team like the Bucks, who needed more firepower lately.

It most shows in Holiday shooting 40 percent from the field (28 percent from the 3-point line) in his last series with the Bucks — over a full 10 and 12 percentage points less, respectively, than he is now with the Celtics during this postseason. That is more a statement on the Celtics’ impeccable roster construction than it is on the Bucks for (rightfully) offloading a valuable piece of their last championship team.

Lest I forget, there’s a critical distinction here: The Bucks did NOT trade Holiday to the Celtics.

They didn’t willingly give him to a top Eastern Conference rival. They traded him to the Trail Blazers for Lillard, a player whose skill set they desperately needed much more. The Celtics, as prudent as they are, swooped in later to acquire Holiday from rebuilding Portland. There’s nothing the Bucks could’ve done to prevent that the moment they shipped Holiday off.

The Celtics are tremendous beneficiaries of Holiday’s surprising availability this offseason. The Bucks needed a dramatic change: an All-Star-caliber guard who could carry their team.

Both statements are true, and the former isn’t an indictment of Milwaukee.

Photos of Notre Dame alumnus Pat Connaughton in 2024 NBA playoffs

The season is over for Planet Pat.

For the second straight season, the Milwaukee Bucks have been eliminated in the first round of the NBA playoffs. That means Notre Dame alumnus [autotag]Pat Connaughton[/autotag] will have to wait at least another year to see if he can repeat the championship glory he did with the Bucks in 2021.

During the Bucks’ six-game first-round loss to the Indiana Pacers, for which they were without the injured Giannis Antetokounmpo, Connaughton averaged 4.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.2 assists a game. His best contest came when the Bucks held off elimination in Game 5, the second of two straight games missed by Damian Lillard. Connaughton had nine points, four rebounds, four assists, two steals and a block in over 31 minutes.

Connaughton is signed with the Bucks for next season and has a player option for the season after. He’ll hope his play in 2024-25 will be enough to have that option picked up. In the meantime, here are some photos from his play during his brief playoff stay this year:

What NBA Twitter was saying about Damian Lillard’s trade to Milwaukee: ‘The Bucks are now East favorites’

Here’s what NBA Twitter was saying about Damian Lillard’s trade to Milwaukee back in September.

Back in September, the Milwaukee Bucks traded Jrue Holiday to acquire Damian Lillard from the Portland Trail Blazers.

NBA Twitter, at the time, exploded.

Several months later, the Bucks lost to the Indiana Pacers in the first round of the playoffs and are heading home early for the second straight year.
