Bills secondary with massive concerns ahead of Lions clash

Bills secondary with massive concerns ahead of Lions clash

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott announced on Friday that starting cornerback Rasul Douglas will miss the Week 15 game at the Detroit Lions due to his knee injury suffered in the loss to the LA Rams last week.

This will be Douglas’ first game missed this season. He and Christian Benford have proven to be a reliable duo of outside corners since Douglas was brought over in a trade at last year’s deadline.

Without Douglas, the Bills could look to former first-round draft pick Kaiir Elam to take over the starting position. Ja’Marcus Ingram, a University at Buffalo product, is also in the mix for playing time.

Not only will Buffalo be down a starter at corner, but their safeties are banged up as well. Both starters Taylor Rapp (neck/shoulder) and Damar Hamlin (back/ribs) were limited in practice on Friday.

Rapp didn’t practice until Friday this week, and is officially questionable for the Detroit game.

The good news for the Bills is that he was able to play in last week’s game after dealing with similar circumstances leading up to that game.

As for Hamlin, he popped up on the injury report Thursday after practicing in full on Wednesday. Like Rapp, Hamlin is questionable for Week 15.

Incredible: Bills’ Damar Hamlin nabs his first-career interception (video)

Amazing:

Hopefully a Super Bowl ring is the cherry on top for Damar Hamlin, but this chapter in his return to the NFL is just incredible.

Hamlin recorded his first-career interception against Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence as the Bills are rolling in Week 3. While up 20-3, Hamlin snatched away the ball.

Bills Mafia went wild and everyone felt for the man who went through so much.

Check out Hamlin’s first pick below:

Damar Hamlin picks off Trevor Lawrence as Bills hammer Jags

The Bills were pounding the Jaguars on Monday night

Everything was going the wrong way for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the first half of Monday night’s game against the Buffalo Bills.

Entering 0-2, the Jags fell behind 20-3as Josh Allen threw two touchdown passes and James Cook ran in for a score.

The home crowd in Western New York got a thrill in the second quarter when Damar Hamlin intercepted a Trevor Lawrence pass.

It was the first career pick for the DB who overcame a near-fatal cardiac incident in a game to play again.

Al Michaels’ Tua Tagovailoa and Damar Hamlin ‘irony’ call after Dolphins QB’s concussion was bizarre

This wasn’t great.

Al Michaels wasn’t having the best of nights calling a blowout Thursday Night Football game, but it’s what he said after Tua Tagovailoa’s latest concussion that was a head-scratcher.

After Kaylee Hartung reported it was indeed another concussion for the Miami Dolphins quarterback, Michaels noted that it was Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin who delivered the legal hit.

A little irony there, he got hit by Damar Hamlin,” Michaels remarked. “You know that history.”

We do know the history of Hamlin going into cardiac arrest on the field, but it’s not ironic and it’s two different injuries.

Bills knock out Tagovailoa, clobber Dolphins

The Dolphins’ concern after losing to the Bills was the health of Tua Tagovailoa

On Thursday, the Buffalo Bills went into Miami and manhandled the Dolphins, 31-10. The Dolphins suffered another loss as quarterback Tua Tagovailoa suffered a concussion during the game.

Tagovailoa took quite a shot from Damar Hamlin and crumpled to the turf, suffering the concussion.

Hamlin tweeted his well wishes to the Dolphins QB after the game.

Ja’Marcus Ingram had two interceptions, the second a game-sealing pick-six.

Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel said Tagovailoa “was in good spirits” after the game. “I am worried about the human being. He will drive the ship when he get the appropriate information. It is about day-to-day health.”

This was the fourth concussion for Tagovailoa in five years. A previous one was also against the Bills.

Bills’ Damar Hamlin named a starter: ‘I have a second chance’

#Bills’ Damar Hamlin on starting: ‘I have a second chance’

Damar Hamlin will be on the field with the starting defense when the Buffalo Bills host the Arizona Cardinals in Week 1.

He’s come a long way, a story that needs little introduction. From suffering cardiac arrest in a live NFL game to now being named an opening-day starter. Simply a remarkable journey.

“What else can’t this young man do?” Buffalo head coach McDermott said via video conference.

Hamlin couldn’t help but be a bit emotional himself. Even so, the 26-year-old acknowledges the work has only just begun.

“I’m blessed, for many reasons. I have a second chance to do things the right way in many areas of my life,” Hamlin said.

Damar Hamlin to start at safety for Bills vs. Cardinals

McDermott’s announces it:

Damar Hamlin will be the other starting safety for the Buffalo Bills against the Arizona Cardinals in their 2024 NFL season opener.

Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott revealed the news via video conference on Wednesday ahead of the matchup. Like many, Hamlin’s incredible journey over the past few years is what took center stage for the coach.

Hamlin suffered cardiac arrest and is now a starting defensive back in Buffalo. When the Bills do battle with the Cards, it will be the 26-year-old’s first start since the incident.

“What else can’t this young man do?” McDermott said. “To come back from that, you know, it’s one thing to come back off of an ACL or a broken bone. It’s another thing to come back off of what he came back off, right? Let alone just to decide to play football and contact football in full pads at the NFL level.”

Hamlin will start for the Bills defense alongside Taylor Rapp.

Rapp was named a first stringer early on in the offseason but Hamlin was in a three-way battle for the job. The others in contention were Mike Edwards and second-round rookie Cole Bishop.

The team was looking to replace longtime starters Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer who are currently no longer on the Bills’ roster.

While Hamlin is the Day 1 starter, that could always change. McDermott even noted that part of the reason Hamlin edged out the competition was because of availability.

Edwards (hamstring) and Bishop (shoulder) missed extensive time during training camp due to injury. That hampered their ability to learn the defensive scheme which Hamlin has already spent years in.

All things considered, Hamlin will be one of the top players to watch on the Bills defense against the Cardinals.

#Bills’ Damar Hamlin intercepts Tom Brady in beach football game:

Regardless of the setting, it’s still pretty cool to pick off Tom Brady and Damar Hamlin got to do that.

The Buffalo Bills defensive back was invited to a party hosted by Fanatics founder Michael Rubin. There, the likes of Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud, Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill and more were in attendance.

So was Brady.

A game broke out on the beach with those characters around. On one play which was caught on camera, Hamlin picks off Brady.

Retirement and the offseason is about kicking back and having fun, and that’s just what former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady and Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin were doing this weekend, taking part in a beach football game while in attendance for Michael Rubin’s 4th of July party.

Hamlin got the best of the GOAT at one point in the game, grabbing an interception and taking it back the other way.

Check out the fun moment here, including the hilarious reaction from Dallas Cowboys pass rusher Micah Parsons, who appeared to be questioning Brady’s decision-making on the play:

Would you let anybody cut your hair?

These Buffalo Bills players would not.
