The Kansas City Chiefs have signed a pair of players to the practice squad ahead of their Week 16 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

According to the NFL’s official personnel notice for Wednesday, the Chiefs signed OT Paul Adams and WR Dalton Schoen to the practice squad. After a few recent transactions (Zayne Anderson and Elliott Fry), the team had some space on the practice squad to reinforce the depth of some positions where they’re currently dealing with COVID-19 issues.

Adams, a University of Missouri alum, took a pre-draft visit with the Chiefs back in 2019. He went undrafted and has bounced around the league ever since, but he did take a tryout with Kansas City last season amidst depth issues related to injuries and the COVID-19 pandemic. The team ultimately signed veteran OT Patrick Omameh instead.

The other player heading to the practice squad is a familiar face. Schoen spent the entire 2021 offseason in Kansas City after signing a reserve/future deal with the team, but he was released during 53-man roster cuts. The former Kansas State standout is a good option for the team because of his familiarity with the scheme, coaching staff and players.

These moves certainly serve the purpose of making this team a bit deeper and better situated for COVID-19 issues that may present themselves in the weeks leading up to the playoffs.

Chiefs’ Byron Pringle, Gehrig Dieter taking WR Dalton Schoen under their wing

Two of the top undrafted free agent receivers on the Kansas City Chiefs’ roster are helping another in his quest to make the team.

The Kansas City Chiefs have a rich tradition of finding receivers in undrafted free agency under Andy Reid.

The team added a number of players at the receiver position this offseason, including former Kansas State WR Dalton Schoen. A former walk-on with the Wildcats, Schoen is no stranger to being an underdog. He had to fight for his opportunities at K-State and he’ll have to do the same in Kansas City.

So far, Schoen has been leaning on some of his teammates who’ve made the team under the same circumstances. One of those players is fourth-year WR Byron Pringle, who also happened to play with Schoen at Kansas State.

“Definitely, Me and B (Byron Pringle) were good buddies at K-State,” Schoen said. “We started together in 2017. He texted me instantly right when he saw that I signed. He said hit him up if I had any questions about the playbook and he was in town one weekend and he was like ‘Hey, let’s hit the field’ and stuff like that. He’s been back in Tampa most of the time, so we haven’t been together working out that much or anything like that but we’ve definitely been in contact. He’s been helping me out.”

While Pringle hasn’t been around much this offseason, Schoen has been able to rely on another receiver in the Chiefs’ room. Fifth-year veteran Gehrig Dieter was instrumental in getting Schoen prepared for rookie minicamp. He’s been on the practice squad and the 53-man roster throughout the years and knows exactly what it takes to make this football team.

“In terms of the other receivers, it has been great getting to know some of them,” Schoen said. “We mentioned earlier, I knew Byron Pringle from college. The gym that I work out at in Overland Park, Gehrig Dieter works out there too, so we’ve been on the field doing a lot of routes and stuff. He’s been so helpful to me. You know, talking me through routes, doing all this stuff to get me ready for this minicamp, so that’s huge.”

Schoen has new teammates in his corner, but he also has plenty of support as a local product. In addition to attending K-State, Schoen grew up in Overland Park and played for Blue Valley Northwest. So long as Schoen continues to work hard this offseason, he’ll have the entire Chiefs Kingdom rallying behind him soon enough.

2020 NFL Draft: Seattle Seahawks attend Kansas State’s Pro Day

The Seattle Seahawks had scouts in attendance at Kansas State’s Pro Day, likely evaluating receiver Dalton Schoen.

The NFL combine is over, giving the Seattle Seahawks and the rest of the league a chance to evaluate the athleticism and size of 337 NFL draft hopefuls.

However, there are more players who could find their way into the draft – or at least training camp as an undrafted free agent – which is why many colleges host a Pro Day every year on campus, to give some of their less heralded guys a chance to shine.

Kansas State has been putting players in the NFL with regularity for the last few years, yet none of their players from last year’s squad were invited to the combine.

That didn’t stop a ton of scouts from coming out to the school’s Pro Day on Wednesday, with the Seahawks reportedly among the team’s in attendance.

The Seahawks are always among the most aggressive teams in the late rounds and on the undrafted market – making it no surprise they’d want to see some of the talent who didn’t make the combine.

Among the standouts for Kansas State were receiver Dalton Schoen, who ran a 4.47 in the 40-yard dash, and offensive lineman Nick Kaltmayer, who repped 18 on the bench press.

The Seahawks will likely be at as many Pro Day events as possible over the next six weeks as they prepare to bring on as much potential talent as they can heading into training camp and the 2020 season.

Giants scouts attended the Kansas State Pro Day

The New York Giants attended the Kansas State Pro Day on Wednesday, where WR Dalton Schoen put on a show.

With the 2020 NFL Combine now in the rear-view mirror, the Pro Day circuit has kicked off across the country and the New York Giants are already sending their scouts to various states.

On Wednesday, the Giants were among 18 teams in attendance at the Kansas State Pro Day, where a number of potential draft targets participated.

In total, 12 Wildcats participated in the on-field drill and worked. Those players include the following:

  • P Devin Anctil
  • RB Jordon Brown
  • DT Trey Dishon
  • OT Scott Frantz
  • RB James Gilbert
  • OL Nick Kaltmayer
  • DB Kevion McGee
  • LB Da’Quan Patton
  • DB Darreyl Patterson
  • WR Dalton Schoen
  • DE Reggie Walker
  • DB Eli Walker

One player who stood out was wide receiver Dalton Schoen, who checked in at 6-foot-1 and over 200 pounds, and posted a 40-yard dash time of 4.44.

The Giants are poking around wide receivers this offseason, so Schoen is certainly a name to remember as we get closer to April.
