Stars at Red Wings projected goalies

Jake Oettinger (35-11-11, 2.42 GAA, .918 SV%, 4 SO) vs. Ville Husso (26-20-7, 3.05 GAA, .898 SV%, 4 SO)

Oettinger allowed just a single goal in each of his last 2 starts against the Vegas Golden Knights and Philadelphia Flyers, both victories. He has won 5 of the last 6 starts overall, too.

He allowed just 2 goals on 26 shots in a 3-2 OTW against the Red Wings on Dec. 10 in the 1st meeting in the Metroplex.

Husso was hammered for 5 goals on 28 shots in Saturday’s 5-1 loss against the Penguins. He is 1-1-1 with a 3.60 GAA and .875 SV% with a shutout in 3 starts in April.

Husso was on the short end of the 3-2 OTL in Dallas on Dec. 10, allowing 3 goals on 33 shots.

Stars at Red Wings picks and predictions

Prediction

Stars 5, Red Wings 2

Moneyline

The Stars (-185) are playing for a division title, locked in a heated 3-way race with the Avalanche and Wild. The Red Wings (+150) are eliminated, and simply playing out the string.

Still, you can’t risk nearly 2 times your potential return on Dallas.

AVOID, and look to the puck line instead.

Puck line/Against the spread

The STARS -1.5 (+135) are a much better value on the puck line. Dallas is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings against Detroit, although 3 of those wins are in OT, so be careful.

Still, in their last 5 wins since March 28, the Stars have won by 3-plus goals in 4 of those outings. If you like the Stars to win, you should like them on the puck line, too.

On the flip side, the Red Wings +1.5 (-165) have lost by 3 or more goals in 3 of their last 4 setbacks since March 25.

Over/Under

OVER 6 (-110) is the lean.

The Over has hit in 8 of the last 10 games on the road for the Stars, while going 7-2-1 in the last 10 home games for the Red Wings. The Over is 8-2-2 in the last 12 games against Western Conference teams for Detroit, too.

Dallas Stars at Detroit Red Wings odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Saturday’s Dallas Stars at Detroit Red Wings NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Dallas Stars (19-15-12) play the second game of a two-game set against the Detroit Red Wings (17-25-7) Saturday with a 7 p.m. ET puck drop at Little Caesars Arena. Below, we analyze the Stars-Red Wings odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Stars were able to score three goals in Thursday’s game, which is the good news. The bad news is that they allowed seven.

It’s familiarity, as these teams were playing for the third consecutive game, and Detroit finally figured it out.

The Red Wings have won two of the past three games at home, and they have scored at least two goals in six of the past seven games, averaging 3.3 goals per game.

That’s not quite considered a high-octane offense, but they average just 2.2 goals per game overall to rank 30th, so they have been on fire by their standards lately.

Stars at Red Wings: Odds, spread and lines

  • Money line: Stars -200 (bet $200 to win $100) | Red Wings +175 (bet $100 to win $175)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Stars -1.5 (+120) | Reds Wings +1.5 (-145)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: +120 | U: -145)

Stars at Red Wings: Projected starting goalies

Jake Oettinger (9-6-6, 2.23 GAA, .916 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Thomas Greiss (6-15-7, 2.95 GAA, .904 SV%)

Khudobin was pulled after the first period of Thursday’s 7-3 blowout, giving way to Oettinger. The 22-year-old Oettinger made 10 saves on 13 shots in relief.

Greiss has been outstanding lately, winning four of his past seven starts, and he hasn’t lost in regulation since April 3. He has posted a 2-2-2 mark with a 2.80 GAA and .914 SV% in his seven appearances against the Stars this season.

Stars at Red Wings: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Red Wings 4, Stars 3

Money line (ML)

The RED WINGS (+175) are a strong play on home ice against the Stars (-200), who allowed a touchdown to Detroit in the front end of the back-to-back at the LCA.

The Wings have a ton of offensive confidence, and they have been receiving strong goaltending from Greiss lately.

Against the spread (ATS)

The RED WINGS +1.5 (-145) aren’t a bad value if you’re not feeling them as healthy underdogs at home and want a little bit of insurance. They have covered five of the past seven on the puck line as an underdog.

Over/Under (O/U)

The OVER 5.5 (+120) is a little bit expensive, but worth the play here. The Over is 2-0-1 in the past three meetings, including Overs in each of the past two with a total of 17 goals. We might not see quite that many goals here, but another Over result is in the offing.

Dallas Stars at Detroit Red Wings odds, picks and prediction

Previewing Thursday’s Dallas Stars at Detroit Red Wings NHL odds and lines, with hockey picks, tips and predictions.

The Dallas Stars (19-14-12) play the first road game of a two-game set with the Detroit Red Wings (16-25-7) Thursday with a 7:30 p.m. ET puck drop at Little Caesars Arena. Below, we analyze the Stars-Red Wings odds and lines, with NHL picks and predictions.

The Stars swept a two-game set at American Airlines Center, doubling up the Red Wings 8-4. Now they take it to Little Caesars Arena for another two-game set, as they teams renew acquaintances in a quick hurry. The Stars enter on a four-game win streak overall.

The Red Wings showed some signs of life in a two-game sweep in Carolina, and a home win over Chicago, all as underdogs from April 10-15. However, Detroit is skidding again, going 0-2-1 across the past three while totaling just four goals during the nosedive.

Stars at Red Wings: Odds, spread and lines

Odds via BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 7:45 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Stars -190 (bet $190 to win $100) | Red Wings +160 (bet $100 to win $160)
  • Against the spread/ATS: Stars -1.5 (+150) | Reds Wings +1.5 (-175)
  • Over/Under: 5.5 (O: +115 | U: -140)

Stars at Red Wings: Projected starting goalies

Anton Khudobin (10-9-6, 2.31 GAA, .913 SV%, 3 SO) vs. Thomas Greiss (5-15-7, 2.95 GAA, .902 SV%)

The 34-year-old backstop saved 20 of the 22 shots he faced in a 3-2 shootout win over the Red Wings at American Airlines Center on Monday, and he has not lost in regulation in eight starts dating back to March 23. Win or lose, he always seems to have the Stars right in the thick of things.

Greiss appeared in Tuesday’s game and turned aside the 11 shots he faced. He was on the losing end of that shootout Monday in Big D, but he made 34 saves and certainly acquitted himself well. He has lost just once in regulation over his past seven starts dating back to March 30.

Stars at Red Wings: Odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Red Wings 3, Stars 2

Money line (ML)

The RED WINGS (+160) are a solid value on home ice as moderate underdogs. They nearly pulled off the win as huge underdogs last time out in Dallas, and the third time will be a charm.

Play our new free daily Pick’em Challenge and win! Play now!

Against the spread (ATS)

The RED WINGS +1.5 (-175) are quite a bit costly here, but they’re a solid play if you’re not feeling them straight up.

Detroit is just 1-3-2 in the previous six meetings with Dallas, but three of the meetings were decided by one goal.

Over/Under (O/U)

The UNDER 5.5 (-140) will cost you a little extra juice, but it’s worth it. The Over is on fire for Dallas lately, but Detroit can’t score and they’ll pull the total down. The Under is 6-1-3 in Detroit’s past 10 at the LCA, and 3-1-1 in the past five overall.
