Eagles sign Quinyon Mitchell’s former college teammate to the practice squad

Philadelphia Eagles sign linebacker Dallas Gant to the practice squad, and release Braeden Daniels

On Monday, the Eagles made two practice squad moves: they released offensive lineman Braeden Daniels and signed free agent linebacker Dallas Gant.

Gant, a former college teammate of Philadelphia’s 2024 first-round pick Quinyon Mitchell, played college football for the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Toledo Rockets. After the 2024 NFL draft, the Vikings signed him as an undrafted free agent.

Gant transferred from Ohio State to Toledo and flourished with the Rockets, logging 11 tackles, 0.5 tackles for loss, a pass deflection, and a forced fumble as he helped the Rockets beat LIU 37–0 in his debut. Gant finished his breakout 2022 season with 116 tackles, 5.5 tackles a loss, five pass deflections, and two forced fumbles.

Gant was signed by the Vikings as an undrafted free agent after the 2024 NFL draft and was also selected by the DC Defenders in the seventh round of the 2024 UFL draft in July.

Gant was waived by Minnesota in August and signed to the practice squad before being released last month.

Four Vikings make PFF’s All-Rookie preseason team

They recently published their All-Rookie team selections, and the Minnesota Vikings were heavily represented.

The 2024 NFL preseason has wrapped up, allowing for some reflection now as we are just a week away from the regular season kicking off. Pro Football Focus is one of the many sites and outlets offering some reflection. They recently published their All-Rookie team selections, and the Minnesota Vikings were heavily represented.

Four Vikings made the list for PFF, three of whom were undrafted free agents.

The four players who made the cut were kicker Will Reichard, linebacker Dallas Gant, cornerback Dwight McGlothern, and defensive lineman Taki Taimani. All four proved pivotal to the team’s success during the preseason, and with three of them being UDFAs, this speaks to the front office.

The Vikings drafted kicker Will Reichard, which surprised some people, but for a franchise that has had so much turmoil at the position, the gamble has paid off. As for the other three defensive coordinator Brian Flores has been masterful in using all three dynamically and has maximized their skillset.

We can expect them all to find further success when their season kicks off in 10 days against the Giants.

Former Ohio State football player gets drafted in UFL

Former Ohio State football player drafted in UFL #GoBucks

The United Football League kicked off their 2024 college draft and one former Ohio State football player was selected. A little background information for those unfamiliar with the rules, all players are required to be NFL draft eligible to be UFL draft eligible and must have gone unselected in the NFL draft. Just like in the NFL, the players selected must be at least three years removed from high school. Prospects can also chose to waive their college eligibility.

The one and only Buckeye drafted was Dallas Gant, who actually finished his collegiate career at Toledo. Ohio State fans will likely remember him as a former four-star recruit from Ohio. He played for the Buckeyes for four seasons and played sparingly every season, then decided to move onto greener pastures his last two seasons as a Rocket.

Gant was selected with the fourth pick in the eighth round by the D.C. Defenders. It should be noted that Gant was signed by the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent, but he can take comfort knowing he has a job playing professional football either way.

Former Buckeye signs with Vikings

Former Buckeye signs with Vikings #GoBucks

The 2024 NFL Draft is officially in the books and with only four Ohio State Buckeyes coming off the board, that is the lowest amount since 2013. Now that number doesn’t include two former transfers that heard their name called, and with the transfer portal being more and more prominent we will only get used to more transfers getting drafted.

After the conclusion of the NFL Draft, the fun really began for most former Ohio State stars as they are rapidly picked up by NFL teams as undrafted free agents. We have done our best to provide updates for the landing spot of most former Buckeyes but also wanted to give an update on who at least started their collegiate career in Columbus.

Most Ohio State fans will remember Dallas Gant as the former four-star recruit spent four seasons as a Buckeye before transferring back home to Toledo and dominating in the MAC. Gant didn’t hear his name get called, but he did sign with the Minnesota Vikings and we wish him good luck!

Former Ohio State linebacker headed to Toledo

Dallas Gant has found a new home in his old stomping grounds.

Former Ohio State linebacker, Dallas Gant, is heading home. Gant entered the transfer portal in mid-September and now we know where he’ll finish out his college career… the University of Toledo.

Toledo is home for Gant. As a product of St. John’s Jesuit, Gant was ranked as the No. 10 outside linebacker in the country in 247Sports 2018 composite rankings.

Gant was expected to compete for playing time and even a starting position during summer camp after the departure of three seniors at the position from the previous season. However, injuries at inopportune times kept him out as the senior was passed and saw limited playing time.

Now Gant has an opportunity to start over in a familiar place. Here’s to hoping that this young man can stay healthy and make some noise up north for the Rockets.
