On Site – Can Cowboys open season with win vs. Tom Brady’s Buccaneers?

In this Week 1 matchup, the Dallas Cowboys are home underdogs against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The first Sunday night game of the NFL season features QB Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers visiting the Dallas Cowboys. Kickoff is set for 8:20 p.m. ET (NBC).

On Site host Tony Anderson is joined by USA TODAY’s Cowboys beat reporter Jori Epstein, who gives the scoop from inside the Dallas locker room.

The Cowboys and Buccaneers actually met in Week 1 a year ago, facing off in the NFL season opener on a Thursday night in Tampa.

Brady threw for 379 yards and 4 TDs, rallying the Bucs to a 31-29 victory, which was capped by Ryan Succop’s 36-yard field with 2 seconds remaining.

Just 1 minute, 22 seconds earlier, the Cowboys kicked a field goal for 29-28 lead.

Will Sunday night’s game feature the same type of fireworks? Anderson points out, “we won’t see Amari Cooper, Antonio Brown or Gronk, so I don’t like the Over, but I do like betting on …”

Listen to the video above to hear who Anderson likes.

FYI: Cooper is now with the Cleveland Browns (offseason trade with Dallas), Brown is unsigned, last playing in Week 16 before his famous walk-off-the-field incident with Tampa, and Rob Gronkowski retired following his 2nd season with the Bucs.

Seattle Seahawks at Dallas Cowboys odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Seattle Seahawks at Dallas Cowboys odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Seattle Seahawks (0-2) visit the Dallas Cowboys (1-1) in the preseason finale Friday. Kickoff is 8 p.m. ET at AT&T Stadium (NFL Network). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Seahawks vs. Cowboys odds, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Seahawks are coming off an offseason in which they traded away QB Russell Wilson. They lost their preseason opener 32-25 to the Pittsburgh Steelers and dropped their 2nd game 27-11 to the Chicago Bears.

The Cowboys lost their preseason opener 17-7 to the Denver Broncos and  followed that up with a 32-18 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. The Cowboys seek to defend their NFC East division title this coming season.

Seahawks at Cowboys picks and predictions

Prediction

Seahawks 24, Cowboys 20

Money line

The Cowboys are going to sit their starters, while the Seahawks have shifted practice reps to their starters. They are expected to get playing time in the preseason finale.

So while the Cowboys will have young players in the lineup and guys who are battling to just make the roster, the Seahawks will have their starters on the field, at least to start things off.

The line reflects that, making a bet on the Seahawks worth very little. PASS on the money line

Against the spread

The focus for this final game, especially once the starters for Seattle come out of the game, will be to stay healthy. Yes, potential back-of-the-roster guys are battling for NFL jobs, but the last part of the game will definitely slow down.

Seattle’s starters are not considered to be among the league’s best, so it will be a matter of how big of a lead they build before things even out.

Expect the score to tighten as the game goes on.

Take the COWBOYS +6.5 (-105).

[the_huddle]

Over/Under

The Seahawks have had both preseason games finish with at least 38 points. The Cowboys had their last game hit 50 total points but their opener had only 24.

Take OVER 37.5 (-112).

Dallas Cowboys at Los Angeles Chargers odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Dallas Cowboys at Los Angeles Chargers preseason odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Chargers meet in preseason action Saturday. Kickoff from SoFi Stadium is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET (NFL Network). Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Cowboys vs. Chargers odds, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Cowboys opened the preseason with a 17-7 loss on the road against the Denver Broncos. Now they face another AFC West foe in their building.

QB Will Grier, battling with QB Cooper Rush for the backup job, missed the preseason opener due to a hamstring injury. He is expected to play, which likely means if we see starting QB Dak Prescott, it will be a cameo at best.

The Chargers fell to the defending Super Bowl-champ Los Angeles Rams at SoFi last weekend, 29-22. Veteran backup QB Chase Daniel tossed a pair of touchdowns, and the offense is still in good hands if starting QB Justin Herbert is limited or held out.

Cowboys at Chargers picks and predictions

Prediction

Chargers 20, Cowboys 17

Money line

The Chargers (-190) should be able to bounce back to grab their first win of the preseason, as Daniel and third-string QB Easton Stick were able to move the offense last weekend. Still, this is a hefty amount of chalk to eat for a preseason game, especially one that should be fairly close.

AVOID.

Against the spread

The COWBOYS +3.5 (-117) are worth a look catching 3 and a hook. The offense was rather moribund last weekend in the Mile High City, with most of the offense, and all of the scoring, coming from QB Ben DiNucci in the fourth quarter. Expect Grier, Rush and company to be a little better in Saturday’s game.

Over/Under

The UNDER 37.5 (-115) might seem a bit risky after the Over cashed at a 13-3 clip in the opening weekend of preseason action. However, defense has reigned supreme so far in Week 2, going 3-1 through Thursday’s and Friday’s action.

The Cowboys managed just 7 points and hit one of those rare Unders in Week 1 action. While I expect them to be a little better, I still think defense rules the day here.

Dallas Cowboys at Denver Broncos odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Dallas Cowboys at Denver Broncos odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Dallas Cowboys and Denver Broncos face off in their preseason opener Saturday night. Kickoff is at 9 p.m. ET at Empower Field at Mile High and the game will air on NFL Network. Below, we analyze Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Cowboys vs. Broncos odds, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Cowboys went 12-5 in the regular season in 2021 and won the NFC East, but lost their 1st-round playoff matchup to the San Francisco 49ers. They come back in 2022 as the favorites to win the East again with Dak Prescott at quarterback but without WR Amari Cooper, whom they traded to the Cleveland Browns.

Denver went 7-10 and missed the postseason, but has high hopes in 2022 in  the AFC West after acquiring Russell Wilson from the Seattle Seahawks.

Cowboys at Broncos and predictions

Prediction

Cowboys 23, Broncos 20

Money line

The Cowboys went 0-4 in last year’s preseason. The Broncos went 3-0. The Cowboys were a playoff team and the Broncos were not.

That doesn’t mean anything now.

Preseason contests are truly tossups. Players who barely make teams and players who don’t end up on NFL roster are on the field when games are decided in the preseason.

So when it comes to the best bet, go with the value. Take the COWBOYS (+140).

Against the spread

The Cowboys lost 3 of 4 last preseason by 6 or more points. The Broncos won all 3 of their games in the preseason by at least 5 points.

However, because of the volatility in preseason contests, I stay far from the spread. PASS.

San Francisco 49ers at Dallas Cowboys odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s San Francisco 49ers at Dallas Cowboys Wild Card odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The San Francisco 49ers (10-7) visit the Dallas Cowboys (12-5) Sunday in an NFC Wild Card tilt for a 4:30 p.m. ET kickoff from AT&T Stadium. Below, we look at the 49ers vs. Cowboys odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The 49ers punched their ticket to the playoffs with a 27-24 overtime win at the Los Angeles Rams in Week 18, stunning their division rivals on the road. San Francisco won four of their last five games and seven of their last nine after starting the season 3-5. The 49ers are a well-balanced team with a steady offense and a defense that allowed the third-fewest yards (310.0 per game) in the NFL. In eight of their last nine games, the 49ers scored at least 23 points and gained at least 400 yards three times in that span.

The Cowboys finished the regular season as the league’s top offense in terms of points (31.2) and yards (407.0) per game. However, they suffered disappointing losses to the Cardinals, Raiders and Broncos in the second half of the season, raising questions about whether the Cowboys can keep up with the better teams in the playoffs.

49ers at Cowboys odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Cowboys 31, 49ers 24

Money line

BET COWBOYS (-165).

Coming off their win over the Rams – a game they probably should’ve lost after falling behind 17-0 – the odds are a little bit juiced for the 49ers. This isn’t to say San Francisco is a bad team, but Dallas isn’t a good matchup for head coach Kyle Shanahan’s team.

Unless the 49ers can pressure Cowboys QB Dak Prescott consistently without blitzing, and the offense can move the ball on the ground, San Francisco is going to be left behind by the Dallas offense.

At -165, Dallas’ money line offers fair value, too. Back the COWBOYS (-165).

Against the spread

TAKE THE COWBOYS -3.5 (+102).

No team was better against the spread this season than Dallas. The Cowboys went 13-4 ATS, four games better than the 49ers’ 9-8 ATS record. As concerning as their late loss to the depleted Cardinals was in Week 17, the Cowboys covered the spread in five of their last six games. So, Dallas is peaking at the right time.

After trouncing the Eagles’ backups with a 51-26 win in Week 18, the Cowboys seem to have found a groove offensively. Back the COWBOYS -3.5 (+102) to cover.

Over/Under

Back the OVER 50.5 (-115).

Dallas runs hot and cold on defense, allowing some big plays but also applying constant pressure to the opposing quarterback with LB Micah Parsons, DE DeMarcus Lawrence and DE Randy Gregory. I could see the Cowboys scoring a defensive touchdown in this one on a mistake by 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo, which makes me like Over even more.

The 49ers are going to move the ball, too, given Dallas’ issues against the run. It’s a big number, but BET THE OVER 50.5 (-115).

Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Saturday’s Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Dallas Cowboys (11-5) and Philadelphia Eagles (9-7) will wrap up their regular-season schedules on Saturday night at Lincoln Financial Field. Both teams have already clinched a playoff spot, but this is still an important matchup for seeding. Kickoff will be at 8:15 p.m. ET Saturday.

Below, we look at the Cowboys vs. Eagles odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

Having already clinched the NFC East title, the Cowboys are guaranteed a home playoff game in the wild-card round. But there’s still room for upward movement in the seeding, giving them a chance to move all the way up to No. 2 if the Buccaneers and Rams lose. That’s unlikely to happen, but the Cowboys are playing this one to win rather than resting starters.

The Eagles are likely to be the No. 6 or 7 seed in the NFC, sitting at 9-7 and tied with the 49ers. They’ve won each of their last four games to get above .500, but those wins came against the Giants, Jets and Washington twice. The offense is rolling, though, scoring at least 20 points in seven of their last eight games.

Cowboys at Eagles odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Cowboys 27, Eagles 20

Money line

The Cowboys said they’re not going to rest their starters, and it makes sense with the chance to move up to No. 2 or 3 in the NFC. There’s plenty of uncertainty surrounding COVID-19 for both teams, but all things equal, the Cowboys are the better squad.

The Eagles’ only impressive win this season was against the Saints in Week 11, and in recent weeks, they’ve only beaten bad teams. I like the COWBOYS (-205) to win outright, but there’s better value laying the points with the spread. PASS.

Against the spread

Even during their four-game winning streak, the Eagles are just 2-1-1 ATS. Dallas is 4-1 ATS in its last five games, with the only game they didn’t cover in being Week 17 against the Cardinals.

The Cowboys are 12-4 ATS this season, and I think that record improves on Saturday in Philadelphia. Bet the COWBOYS -3.5 (-112).

Over/Under

The total has only gone Over in two of the Cowboys’ last 10 games, but the Over is 7-3 in the Eagles’ last 10. Dallas’ offense is sputtering right now and can’t seem to find a groove, though it showed great potential in Week 16 against Washington in a 56-14 win.

The Eagles’ eighth-ranked defense is skewed due to the lack of quality opponents, and the Cowboys scored 41 against them in Week 3. I like the OVER 43.5 (-105).

Arizona Cardinals at Dallas Cowboys odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s Arizona Cardinals at Dallas Cowboys odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Arizona Cardinals (10-5) and Dallas Cowboys (11-4) face off in Week 17 as two teams who have clinched playoff berths. Kickoff from AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, is set for 4:25 p.m. ET Sunday. Below, we look at the Cardinals vs. Cowboys odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Cardinals have lost three games in a row and are 3-5 since their 7-0 start, but clinched a playoff spot in Week 16 because the San Francisco 49ers and Minnesota Vikings both lost. They are 7-1 on the road this season with all seven wins coming by at least 10 points.

The Cowboys have the NFC East division title on a run of four straight victories. QB Dak Prescott threw 4 touchdown passes in only three quarters of work in a 56-14 beatdown of the Washington Football Team in Week 16.

The Cowboys have lost five of their last six matchups against the Cardinals, dating back to 2008.

Cardinals at Cowboys odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Cowboys 31, Cardinals 28

Money line

The Cardinals are 7-1 on the road this season by scoring at least 30 points in six of those games. However, they’ve been plagued by penalties and red-zone failures en route to three consecutive losses.

They are scoring touchdowns 35.7% of their trips to the red zone across their last three outings, compared to the 70% clip they recorded up until December.

The Cowboys are red-hot as winners of four straight games and are 5-2 at home. They have been great against the NFC with an 8-2 record within the conference.

The price is almost getting too much to bet on the money line on Dallas, but take the COWBOYS (-260).

Against the spread

The Cardinals are 7-1 ATS on the road and 9-6 ATS overall but have failed to cover the spread in their last three games.

The Cowboys are 12-3 ATS this season and have covered the spread in four straight games.

The Cowboys are eighth in scoring defense but give up yards. The Cardinals have not really been stopped by anyone but themselves, with costly penalties and mistakes in the red zone. They should have their rushing attack intact to get things going and should get going offensively.

However, the Dallas offense will be too much for the Arizona defense to stop. It will be close and come down to the wire.

Take the CARDINALS +6.5 (-115).

Over/Under

The Cowboys are the league’s top scoring offense in both yardage and points per game. The Cardinals have scored 30 or more points in six of their eight road games.

This should be a shootout.

Take OVER 51.5 (-108).

Washington Football Team at Dallas Cowboys odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s Washington Football Team at Dallas Cowboys odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Washington Football Team (6-8) and Dallas Cowboys (10-4) will clash in a pivotal Week 16 matchup with huge playoff implications. Washington will try to stay in the playoff hunt, while the Cowboys are in a chase for the No. 1 seed. Kickoff on Sunday night will be at 8:20 p.m. ET from AT&T Stadium. Below, we look at the Washington vs. Cowboys odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

Washington has lost two in a row after ripping off a four-game winning streak, crushing its playoff chances. Its most recent loss came to the Eagles Tuesday night in a game that was postponed from Sunday due to the team’s COVID-19 outbreak. Fortunately, QB Taylor Heinicke is back from COVID reserve and should start Sunday in Dallas.

The Cowboys have gotten hot at the right time, winning their last three games. They crushed the Giants Sunday, 21-6, after also beating Washington and the Saints in their previous two games. As of now, the Cowboys hold the No. 2 seed in the NFC, but they’re in a tie with the Cardinals and Buccaneers at 10-4.

Washington at Cowboys odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Cowboys 24, Washington 17

Money line

The Cowboys and Washington just squared off two weeks ago, a game Dallas won 27-20. But Washington was able to not only keep it close at the end, but it had a chance to tie the game in the fourth quarter after falling behind 24-0.

The Cowboys have won three in a row, but with the money line offering very little reward for the risk, I would PASS here.

Against the spread

The Cowboys covered the spread in each of their last three wins and are now an incredible 11-3 ATS. However, the offense has really struggled as of late and Washington’s defense is underrated when healthy.

With Heinicke coming back, along with several other starters, I think Washington will keep this one relatively close – at least within 10 points. I like WASHINGTON +9.5 (+100) to cover, especially at even money.

Over/Under

In the last 10 games for each team, the total has only gone Over three times. Neither Dallas nor Washington is scoring at a very high rate on offense, though the Cowboys have gotten plenty of help from their defense scoring points.

This will be a defensive battle, which is why I like the UNDER 46.5 (-103) on Sunday night.

Dallas Cowboys at Washington Football Team odds, picks and prediction

Analyzing Sunday’s Dallas Cowboys at Washington Football Team Week 14 odds and lines, with expert NFL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Dallas Cowboys (8-4) and Washington Football Team (6-6) will square off for the first time this season, pitting the top two teams in the NFC East against each other Sunday. Kickoff will be at 1 p.m. ET from FedExField as Dallas tries to pull further ahead in the division. Below, we look at the Cowboys vs. Washington odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Cowboys should be well-rested after getting some extra time off following their win over the Saints last Thursday night, snapping their two-game losing streak.

Dallas is still only 2-3 in the last five games with those losses coming against the Broncos, Chiefs and Raiders, though the Cowboys did win comfortably against the Saints and the Falcons.

Washington has caught fire as of late, winning its last four games after losing four in a row in October. The Football Team’s most impressive win came Nov. 14 vs. the Buccaneers, blowing them out 29-19 at home.

Washington’s numbers aren’t all that impressive, ranking 21st in scoring offense and 23rd in points allowed, but it has found ways to get it done in order to claw back to .500.

Cowboys at Washington odds, lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Cowboys 24, Washington 17

Money line

Dallas has not played well as of late, and even in its win over the Saints, the offense looked broken. The Cowboys will now face a defense that’s playing well, holding each of its last five opponents under 22 points.

But the Cowboys should get back on track with WR Amari Cooper closer to full strength and RB Ezekiel Elliott having 10 days to rest his knee injury.

Even being on the road, I really like Dallas in this game, but I would PASS on the money line and bet on the spread instead.

Against the spread

This is where the real value is. The Cowboys are 9-3 ATS this season, four games better than Washington, which started the year 1-7 ATS.

Washington’s defense could give the Cowboys some trouble but its offense will also struggle against an underrated Dallas defense.

Bet the COWBOYS -4.5 (-112) giving the points on the road.

Over/Under

The Cowboys scored 27 points against the Saints but they went three-and-out on four of their last seven possessions and six times overall. It was not a very good performance, with the offense only scoring 20 points on its own; Dallas also had a pick-six.

Washington’s offense isn’t moving the ball very easily right now, either, and its defense deserves more credit than it’s gotten.

I like the UNDER 47.5 (-105).

Dallas Cowboys at New Orleans Saints odds, picks and predictions: Player prop bets

Analyzing the Dallas Cowboys at New Orleans Saints Week 13 matchup and offering up expert picks and predictions on the top player prop bets.

The Dallas Cowboys (7-4) are on the road Thursday to visit the New Orleans Saints (5-6) at Ceasars Superdome. Kickoff is set for 8:20 p.m. ET. Below, we look at the Cowboys vs. Saints prop bet odds and lines, and make our best NFL picks, predictions and bets.

The Cowboys have lost three of their last four games, including consecutive losses to the Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders. They’ve been inconsistent on offense, scoring 33 points against the Raiders, 9 points against the Chiefs, 43 against the Atlanta Falcons and 16 against the Denver Broncos throughout November. Dallas is still in good shape in the NFC East but the Philadelphia Eagles are within reach of the top spot in the division.

The Saints have lost four games in a row and will turn to QB Taysom Hill instead of QB Trevor Siemian. New Orleans scored just 6 points against the Buffalo Bills in Week 12 and is looking for a spark on offense. The Saints have also had defensive problems leading to 71 points allowed in their last two games.

Cowboys at Saints prop bet picks and predictions

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds for a full list. Lines last updated at 10:45 a.m. ET.

Cowboys RB Tony Pollard OVER 17.5 receiving yards (-130)

With RB Ezekiel Elliott banged up Pollard has carved out a bigger role for himself in the Cowboys’ offense. He’s played at least a third of the snaps in each of the last four games and has averaged 35 yards receiving per game in that span. This total seems far too low given his recent production and because QB Dak Prescott loves targeting Pollard out of the backfield and he averages 8.8 yards per catch.

PLAY: Try our new, free daily Pick’em Challenge and win. Play now!

Cowboys WR Michael Gallup OVER 3.5 receptions (-143)

Gallup had a big game against the Raiders in his third game back from IR. Dallas was without WRs Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb, but the targets have been consistent since Gallup’s return anyway. He’s been targeted 23 times in the last three games and he could be left open often Thursday assuming Lamb or Cooper draw CB Marshon Lattimore in coverage.

Saints QB Taysom Hill OVER 39.5 rushing yards (-118)

Hill rushed for 49 yards, 44 yards, 83 yards and 33 yards in the four games he started for the Saints last season. Head coach Sean Payton schemes up ways for him to run the ball when he gets opportunities at quarterback, and that should certainly be the case Thursday night. Expect to see Hill get it on designed runs at least 10 times with the Saints passing attack struggling.

Cowboys WR Amari Cooper OVER 47.5 receiving yards (-120)

Cooper is typically good for at least 50 yards receiving when he’s healthy. He’s only caught more than three passes four times in nine games but he’s topped 50 yards receiving in six of them. Now that he’s seemingly recovered from his bout with COVID-19, he should once again be a big part of the offense. Just wait to make this wager until closer to kickoff because he’s listed as questionable.

Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott anytime TD scorer (+100)

Pollard might be eating into Elliott’s playing time, but Zeke is still getting plenty of opportunities around the end zone. He has 11 carries and six touchdowns inside the 5-yard line, which is tied for the second-most among all running backs. This is a great value at even money.
