How to watch, key players for the Oklahoma Sooners vs. Dallas Baptist

After a 2-1 weekend the Sooners are back in action with a midweek game against Dallas Baptist. Here is how to watch.

What a start to the season it was for the Oklahoma Sooners. They started the year 2-1 with a win over top 10 Tennessee.

Now they are back in action on the road against Dallas Baptist who is 3-0 on the season. The Sooners have a chance to really impress people and continue to make statements if they are able to win this one.

The pitching matchup was announced on Monday, and it will be [autotag]Grant Stevens[/autotag] for OU, who is making his debut. For Dallas Baptist, it will be Nick Wilson who is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA on the year.

Let’s look at how you can watch the game as well as some more key players.

Oklahoma falls back below .500 with 9-3 loss to Dallas Baptist in Frisco

Oklahoma took another big loss on Sunday night at the hands of Dallas Baptist 9-3 in Frisco.

Oklahoma baseball concluded their week at the Frisco College Baseball Classic on Sunday night facing a familiar foe in recent years with the Dallas Baptist Patriots. After dropping the first two games to Arizona, the Sooners bounced back to defeat Missouri on Saturday to create an opportunity to escape the weekend with a split.

Unfortunately for Skip Johnson’s club, things didn’t go as planned as they fell at the hands of the Patriots 9-3. Left-handed starting pitcher Jake Bennett was superb in last Sunday’s win over Baylor, but really struggled in this one allowing nine runs in just four innings of work. The bullpen did a good job keeping Dallas Baptist under wraps the rest of the way, but the damage had been done.

The Patriots didn’t waste any time building a big lead scoring three in the first, five in the second and one in the third to hold a quick 9-0 lead. Oklahoma would struggle to get much going until the seventh inning when they pushed across their three runs on RBI walks by both shortstop Brandon Zaragoza and third baseman Peyton Graham before left fielder Kendall Pettis later scored on a wild pitch.

The loss slips the Sooners back below .500 at just 5-6 on the still very young season. Obviously, the week is a disappointing turnout for a team that finished last week in Round Rock very strongly and seemingly entered the event with a lot of momentum. It was known the starting rotation was the biggest question mark entering the season, and it had great struggles this week. It isn’t breaking any news to say they’ll need to find a way to get more length and better outings from their guys to have the chance to beat good teams consistently – and they certainly still have loads of time to figure things out.

It is far too early to press the panic button, especially with a lighter schedule played at home coming in the days ahead. If things don’t improve over the next couple of weeks, then it may be time for fans to start to have some worries.

As is common with the college baseball season, Oklahoma won’t get much time to recuperate. They’ll have the day off tomorrow before returning to action at L. Dale Mitchell Park against UT-Arlington on Tuesday night.

Oklahoma looks to split week in Frisco against Dallas Baptist after blowout of Missouri

Oklahoma is looking for a split of the Frisco College Baseball Classic against Dallas Baptist after blowing out Missouri on Saturday night.

Oklahoma is looking for a split at the Frisco College Baseball Classic this week after dropping the first two games to Arizona and blowing out Missouri on Saturday night.

The two games against the Wildcats were characterized by poor pitching with Arizona putting up an astonishing 32 runs over the course of the two games. On Saturday night, it was the Sooners putting up the gaudy run total as they hung 16 on the board their win over Missouri.

It was a tightly contested game with the old Big 12 foe, but Oklahoma exploded in the late innings scoring 10 of their 16 in the final three innings. It was a win that was sorely needed to try and salvage what had started out as a disastrous week in Frisco.

The Sooners now turn their attention to Dallas Baptist on Sunday night with left-hander Jake Bennett on the mound. The  Patriots have done the reverse of Oklahoma so far, winning the first two games over Missouri behind really good pitching before allowing 15 runs to Arizona yesterday to take their first loss of the event.

With the way the week began, getting out of town with a split would be huge before returning to Norman for home games next week. This is a big game for the Sooners.

The matchup with the Patriots is set for 6:00 p.m. CT tonight and can be watched on FloBaseball.tv and heard on Sportstalk 1400 AM/99.3 FM and the Tune In App.
