Mac Jones a top-10 pick in latest 2021 NFL mock draft

Alabama is no stranger to producing first round draft picks. In this latest CBS Sports mock draft for 2021, Mac Jones is a top 10 selection.

Mac Jones has had quite an outstanding 2020 season. Entering with many doubters, and following Tua Tagovailoa, no one could have guessed what would have happened next.

A potential Heisman trophy campaign could be the result of his hard work through ten games so far.

As Alabama works their way into the postseason, there are, at most, three games reamining for the Crimson Tide. Meaning, there are a few players who only have three games left to showcase their in-game talent to NFL front offices.

Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports put together his latest 2021 NFL mock draft and included four Alabama stars in the first round, including Mac Jones as a top-10 selection.

Here’s where they land:

Despite having high odds to win the 2020 Heisman trophy, and playing abilites that have demolished program and conference records, Smith drops to the latter half of the first round due to his size. However, his resume speaks for itself, and his speed and route running abilities may make him the missing piece in the Ravens’ offense.

BetMGM betting odds for SEC Championship

Alabama is set to face off against the Florida Gators in the 2020 SEC Championship and the lines are leaning in the Crimson Tide’s favor.

Alabama is set to face off against Florida in Atlanta for the 2020 SEC Championship.

The Crimson Tide finished the regular season undefeated, the only team in the conference to accomplish such a feat. They also stand alone as the sole winner of the West division.

The Gators were on pace to enter the postseason with only one loss on their resume and a chance to make the College Football  playoff with a win over Alabama.

This game will now serve as Florida’s play-in for a New Years Six bowl game, as they lost the last game of the season to LSU. Because they suffered two losses, they will be named co-champions of the SEC East with Georgia. Florida defeated Georgia in a head-to-head matchup during the regular season.

Oddsmakers at BetMGM have the game leaning heavily in Alabama’s favor.

Alabama analyst Butch Jones announced as new Arkansas State head coach

The Alabama Crimson Tide was in Arkansas and they meant business. Actually, they weren’t the only ones that meant business. Former Tennessee head coach and Alabama analyst Butch Jones has been named the new head coach for Arkansas State.

Jones was the head coach at Tennessee from 2013-2017, and then was fired. Following his termination as the Volunteers head coach, he joined the Alabama staff as an analyst, a move that Crimson Tide fans loved.

After spending the last three seasons with Alabama, Jones has seemingly made a move in an attempt to revitalize his coaching career and return to the helm of a program.

Arkansas State, who calls the Sun Belt conference home, has been a stop for some of colleges biggest names in coaching. Former Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze and Auburn head coach Guz Malzahn were both head coaches for the Red Wolves in the last decade.

Jones has already met the team and be formally introduced, you can see the pictures below.

5 players that will lead Alabama to National Championship No. 18

With a record of 9-0, an impressive resume and being the clear No. 1 team in the naion among numerous polls and rankings, Alabama is on pace to earn National Championship No. 18.

After missing the College Football Playoff last season for the first time since its creation, the Crimson Tide came out swinging.

The coaching staff stepped up, as did the players.

In fact, many of the heavy hitters that have helped Alabama get to where they are now in the season are either playing above expectations, or are shocking the nation with their performance.

Alabama has already secured a date with No. 6 Florida in the SEC Championship game; a contest which could solidify the Crimson Tide as No. 1 for the playoffs, or take them out of it completely, depending on the outcome.

Here are five players for Alabama that have proven to be big enough difference makers:

The Alabama Crimson Tide ended with a final record of 10-2, a record some programs could only dream of having. However for Alabama, there is a sense of disappointment.

In the second-to-last rankings done by the College Football Playoff committee, Alabama was ranked No. 12, the lowest Nick Saban and Alabama has been ranked in years.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, Alabama dropped yet again to No. 13 after not playing for a conference championship this past weekend.

It’s also very unusual for Alabama to be looking up at the numerous other fellow SEC programs that are ahead of them in the rankings.

Teams that are ranked higher than Alabama to finish the 2019 season: Auburn (No. 12), Florida (No. 9), Georgia (No. 5) and LSU (No. 1).

Alabama will now look to play in it’s final game of the season, which will take place on New Year’s Day against Michigan in the Citrus Bowl.

CBS Sports’ NFL draft analyst Chris Trapasso has released his most recent mock draft for the 2020 NFL Draft.

In this mock draft, Trapasso has a player named for all 32 picks in the first round, along with his reasons why he believes that player is best suited for that team.

He did not hold back on his belief that the 2019 Alabama Crimson Tide football team was loaded with first round talent as he has five draft-eligible Crimson Tide players going in the first round.

Here’s where those players lined up:

4. Washington Redskins – Jerry Jeudy, WR

John David Mercer-USA TODAY Sports

Trapasso believes that this selection for the struggling Redskins is more of a “best available player” situation. This selection should be beneficial to the team as it’s offense lacks any strength in the receiving corps which would offer some much needed help to Washington’s 2019 first round-pick Dwayne Haskins.
