Saints made ‘Scorigami’ history in Week 2 win vs. Cowboys

The Saints made ‘Scorigami’ history in their Week 2 win vs. Cowboys. It’s the first time an NFL game has ended with this score:

https://twitter.com/NFL_Scorigami/status/1835407666346098903

The New Orleans Saints made ‘Scorigami’ history in their Week 2 win over  the Dallas Cowboys. It’s the first time an NFL game has ended with this score — a margin of 44-19. How did we get here?

It took six Saints touchdowns (four of them from Alvin Kamara), a blocked point-after attempt against the Saints and too many kicks by Dallas, who settled for four field goals. But that extra point try going awry is what made this win auspicious. There hasn’t been a final tally like this in the history of the NFL.

But the Saints are more concerned with their 2-0 record than the dominance of this 25-point upset. That’s what will make the difference in the division standings and, maybe, playoff seeding later this season. Dennis Allen’s team is proving many of its doubters wrong through the first two weeks. Let’s see them keep it up.

Taysom Hill suffers chest injury vs. Cowboys, doubtful to return

Taysom Hill suffered a chest injury against the Cowboys, and the Saints say he is doubtful to return. It’ll take a group effort to replace him:

Taysom Hill exited the New Orleans Saints’ game with the Dallas Cowboys after suffering a chest injury, and the tam announced that he was doubtful to return. They may not need much more from him after Hill helped the Saints build a 41-19 lead over the Cowboys at the start of the fourth quarter.

Still, Hill is an extremely valuable player, and it’s tough to replace him. He helps out at fullback and tight end when he’s not catching passes from the slot and making tackles on special teams. It takes a group effort to cover for him.

It’s very fortunate that he hasn’t dealt with many serious injuries after turning pro. Hill overcame a ton of adversity in college at BYU after suffering from multiple season-ending injuries and has developed into a key playmaker for the Saints, even when he isn’t touching the football himself. We’ll look out for updates on his status.

Update: After the game, Dennis Allen said that Hill was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.

The Saints starting offense hasn’t punted through 6 quarters in 2024

The Saints starting offense scored on every possession through six quarters. Their 310 first-half yards against the Cowboys was a franchise record — for Dallas:

The New Orleans Saints offense continued their streak from last week. Against the Carolina Panthers, the Saints scored on every drive led by the Derek Carr and the starting offense. The unit had nine possessions that led to five touchdowns and four field goals.

In Week 2, the team is going against a better defense. No one told Klint Kubiak. Instead, he proceeded to dial up a 35 point first half against the Dallas Cowboys, with three Alvin Kamara touchdowns. This came off the heels of a 30 point first half in Week 1.

That was the best first half under Dennis Allen at the time. That claim has now been replaced by this performance. In five drives, the Saints starting offense still haven’t required the punter to come out.

All five drives have resulted in touchdowns, so far. Carr has been equally as efficient as he was a week ago, and he’s already surpassed his passing total from the debut. The 310 yards of offense the Saints gained in the first half was a franchise record — for Dallas, being the most yardage their defense had ever given up through the first two quarters.

If the Saints can take this trend into a second half, the team will walk away with a victory for a second year in a row.

Paulson Adebo spoils Cowboys two-minute drive with clutch INT

The New Orleans Saints continued their dominant showing with a Paulson Adebo interception, setting up another touchdown against the Cowboy:

The New Orleans Saints are rolling. Up 28-13 on the Dallas Cowboys, they went to the defensive side, and Paulson Adebo snagged an interception off of Dak Prescott as they tried to execute their two-minute drill. Adebo then returned it for 47 yards, setting the Saints up at the Dallas 20-yard line.

This resulted in the Saints getting another touchdown off of an amazing Chris Olave reception, and then a Derek Carr touchdown run right up the middle. The Saints took the lead 35-13 off of this, setting them up in a good position in the first half. Ultimately this was a good play by Adebo after he had a few holding calls against him earlier in the game and a few tough plays in coverage, as he was able to redeem himself and get the Saints the ball back, while also halting the progress of Dallas. A good start for the Saints to begin their Week 2 matchup.

Alvin Kamara caught the longest reception of his career for a TD

Alvin Kamara’s 57-yard touchdown reception against the Cowboys was the longest catch of his NFL career:

https://twitter.com/Saints/status/1835375925136851416

The New Orleans Saints offense thinks it’s 2020. The Saints just dialed up a screen pass to Alvin Kamara for a 57-yard touchdown reception. Thank you, Klint Kubiak.

This play was the longest reception of Kamara’s career and his second-longest play from scrimmage. Kamara wasn’t the only player to register the longest catch of his career versus the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday. Derek Carr also dropped a 70-yard bomb to Rashid Shaheed in the first quarter.

Kamara took the screen pass from inside Saints territory and was faced with open grass. It was a genuinely perfectly executed screen pass as all of the defensive linemen ran upfield. Kamara then outran any pursuit from Cowboys defenders.

The reception was Kamara’s second touchdown of the game. The running back converted an easy rushing touchdown for the first score of the day. Kamara later added another rushing touchdown in the second quarter to bring his total to three in the first half.

Rashid Shaheed scored the longest TD of his career vs. Cowboys

Rashid Shaheed scored the longest TD of his Saints career with this 70-yard touchdown he hauled in against the Cowboys:

https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1835370061923762592

The New Orleans Saints are off to a hot start against the Dallas Cowboys, as Rashid Shaheed caught a career-long 70-yard touchdown grab in the first quarter. His next longest play was a 68-yard reception in his rookie year.

Sunday’s play was immensely impressive, as he was in the middle of two defenders when the ball was thrown, however, he and Derek Carr were on the same wavelength as Shaheed pulled away from both defenders, caught the ball in stride, and ran away for a touchdown.

This touchdown made 11-straight scoring drives for the Saints with Derek Carr at QB per Nola.com’s Rod Walker. Shaheed has always been fast and we all know it, but having the ability to pull away from the deep safety on straight-line speed alone is absolutely outstanding work and a special talent that the Saints love to utilize, as he had an early touchdown grab last week over the top as well for 59 yards.

A.T. Perry is a healthy scratch for Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys

The New Orleans Saints opted to make A.T. Perry a healthy scratch entering Week 2’s Dallas Cowboys game after he missed Week 1 with a hand injury:

The New Orleans Saints have been moving their wide receiver corps around all offseason and preseason, trying to find out the best mix of players for their roster. Ultimately, that led to A.T. Perry being marked as a healthy scratch for Week 2, per ESPN’s Katherine Terrell. This comes after Perry practiced without limitation the whole week, though he missed Week 1’s game due to a hand injury.

This is somewhat surprising after Perry suited up for 10 games last season, starting three, and was impressive in his playing time given. However, in preseason there were times when other players were getting opportunities over him, especially in the game against the San Francisco 49ers.

Could this just be injury management and ensuring he is completely healthy before he gets any run time? Maybe. Could it also be the Saints saying they really like what they have in guys like Bub Means and Mason Tipton over Perry? Also maybe. Who knows the thought process here, but ultimately the decision has been made, at least this week, to go away from Perry and stick with the receiver room they had for Week 1.

Taliese Fuaga will play vs. Cowboys in Week 2

Taliese Fuaga continued to deal with back tightness throughout the week. After testing it out pregame, the rookie will play in Saints vs. Cowboys:

Taliese Fuaga played every snap in the New Orleans Saints’ season opener with the Carolina Panthers, and they’ll have in the lineup again for Sunday’s Week 2 game against the Dallas Cowboys. Fuaga was a limited participant during the first day of practice this week and it was the last time he practiced at all. He was out the ensuing two days and listed was seen as a game-time decision.

Fuaga is dealing with back tightness similar to what he managing during training camp. Saints head coach Dennis Allen doesn’t believe the injury is a major issue, and Fuaga was cleared to play after testing out his back before the game.

With Micah Parsons playing host, Trevor Penning will have to be on top of things Sunday. Parsons likes to rush against the right tackle but he’ll get reps against Fuaga, too. Penning may get the brunt of the high-profile matchup, but Fuaga doesn’t have it easy. Parsons is a dynamic pass rusher, and the rookie will still have to deal with Parsons at times. Even when Parsons is in front of Penning, DeMarcus Lawrence is a formidable threat.

Lawrence is a strong run defender who can derail the Saints’ main objective to dominate the run game. The Saints offensive tackles will have their hands full on both sides.

Saints announce inactive players for Week 2 game vs. Cowboys

The New Orleans Saints announced their list of inactive players for Week 2’s game with the Dallas Cowboys:

The New Orleans Saints are looking for their second victory in a row and start 2-0 for the second consecutive season. After knocking off the Carolina Panthers, the Saints take on a bigger challenge in the Dallas Cowboys.

Bryan Bresee, Taliese Fuaga and Marshon Lattimore were prominent players who were listed as questionable. Bresee and Fuaga will play but Lattimore is inactive. The Saints ruled out two other players for the contest earlier in the week

Spencer Rattler will continue to be the third emergency quarterback. He’ll be dressed out, but he won’t count as an active player. He only comes into the game if Derek Carr and Jake Haener are injured.

Report: Marshon Lattimore is OUT vs. Cowboys

Marshon Lattimore was a game-time decision ahead of Saints vs. Cowboys. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to go on Sunday:

https://twitter.com/josinaanderson/status/1835336487061139546?s=46&t=BGVU6QtA–q5wEiol6W64A

The New Orleans Saints will have to stop the Dallas Cowboys passing attack without Marshon Lattimore this week. He wasn’t spotted warming up before the game, and NFL insider Josina Anderson reports that he will be inactive at kickoff.

The Saints lead corner went down with a hamstring injury versus the Panthers in Week 1. This injury left him unable to practice the entire week and being a game-time decision on Sunday.

Because of his absence, Kool-Aid McKinstry will join the starting secondary alongside Paulson Adebo and Alontae Taylor. This was the combination that saw the field when Lattimore departed Week 1.

The Saints have to deal with the elite connection of CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott.

Lamb works out of the slot frequently, so this will primarily be Taylor’s matchup. Taylor’s season debut wasn’t just great, it was historic. The day stood out because of his ability to rush the quarterback.

Taylor needs to have an equally strong performance against the Cowboys. This time he’ll need to do it coverage against Lamb and the rest of the receiving corps.

It’ll be interesting if the Cowboys change tendencies because there’s a rookie on the outside. McKinstry’s inexperience could lead to the Cowboys targeting him with their best wideout.

McKinstry was drafted for this exact situation. The Saints knew he may have to step in for someone, and that is already true after the first game. This provides a huge opportunity for McKinstry to get game reps and show he’s prepared to take this job on next year.
