Jarvis Landry and other Browns ‘close contacts’ continue to test negative for COVID-19

The close contacts can return as early as Thursday’s practice

Browns coach Kevin Stefanski offered an update on the multitude of Cleveland players who were placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Saturday as close contacts to someone who tested positive. And it’s very welcome news.

Jarvis Landry and the others who were forced to miss Sunday’s loss against the New York Jets continue to test negative for COVID-19. If that continues, they will all be eligible to return to Browns practice on Thursday, and then also be cleared for Sunday’s crucial matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers at FirstEnergy Stadium on Sunday.

Landry was one of four wide receivers ruled out because of contact tracing to a player who tested positive, linebacker B.J. Goodson. Fellow LB Jacob Phillips was also deemed a close contact.

  • WR Jarvis Landry
  • WR KhaDarel Hodge
  • WR Rashard Higgins
  • WR Donovan Peoples-Jones
  • LB Jacob Phillips

It would be a massive disappointment to not have any of the players in the must-win Week 17 finale.

Don’t expect Goodson back, however. He tested positive and is in quarantine.

Browns place 5 more on reserve/COVID-19 list including top 4 WRs

The Browns will be without Landry, Higgins, Peoples-Jones and Hodge vs. the Jets

Shorthanded doesn’t even begin to describe how the Cleveland Browns offense will look when the team takes the field in New York on Sunday. The top four wide receivers on the Browns were all placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list less than 24 hours before the scheduled kickoff at MetLife Stadium with the Jets.

Jarvis Landry, Rashard Higgins, KhaDarel Hodge and Donovan Peoples-Jones are joined by linebacker Jacob Phillips on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Saturday. The team’s plane to New York was delayed for several hours while contract tracing for a positive test was completed. All the players listed were deemed as close contacts and will miss Sunday’s game.

The Browns quickly elevated WRs Ja’Marcus Bradley and Derrick Willies, as well as LB Montrel Meander, from the practice squad as COVID-19 replacements. Left tackle Jedrick Wills was activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list on Saturday and will play against the 1-13 Jets.

Browns place B.J. Goodson on the reserve/ COVID-19 list, activate Jedrick Wills

Goodson is the team’s leading tackler

The Cleveland Browns will get a big boost on their offensive line tomorrow while also losing a key starter on defense.

The Browns have placed starting linebacker B.J. Goodson on the reserve/COVID-19 list, according to a report from NFL Network. Earlier today, the team announced the facility was closed and the team’s flight to New York was delayed for contact tracing following the positive test.

Although the defense will lose Goodson, the Browns get back starting left tackle Jedrick Wills Jr., who was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Thursday morning.

Goodson has started all 14 games for the Browns this season and accounted for a career-high 91 tackles. The defensive signal-caller has also accounted for a pair of interceptions and two tackles for loss.

Wills has started every game at left tackle during his rookie season campaign.

In an additional move, the Browns elevated center Javon Patterson from the practice squad as a COVID-19 replacement. Patterson is a second-year player out of Ole Miss and was signed to the practice squad on Nov. 10.

The Browns are set to kick-off tomorrow against the Jets at MetLife Stadium at 1 p.m.

Browns place LT Jedrick Wills on reserve/COVID-19 list

Browns place LT Jedrick Wills on reserve/COVID-19 list

The Browns served up some bad tidings on Christmas Eve with the Thursday morning announcement that starting left tackle Jedrick Wills has been placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

The timing of the move means Wills will likely not be in uniform when the Browns visit the New York Jets on Sunday. Head coach Kevin Stefanski did indicate there was some possibility for Wills to be active if he continues to test negative.

The Browns are already without starting right guard Wyatt Teller, and top reserve tackle Chris Hubbard was placed on injured reserve earlier this week after suffering a major knee injury in Week 15.

Kendall Lamm figures to take over for Wills against the Jets.

In addition to Wills, practice squad wide receiver Ryan Switzer was also placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

This article was updated to include Stefanski’s comment.

Browns activate RG Wyatt Teller from the reserve/COVID-19 list

With Teller’s activation, the Browns no longer have any players on the reserve/COVID-19 list

The Cleveland Browns offensive line will be intact for the Week 14 Monday Night Football showdown with the Baltimore Ravens. The Browns activated starting right guard Wyatt Teller from the reserve/COVID-19 list on Sunday.

Teller was placed on the list on Tuesday after being deemed a close contact to someone who tested positive for COVID-19. He needed five straight days of negative tests in order to clear the established protocols.

During the week, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski indicated Teller was “right where we need to be” to get back in time for Monday night’s game. That proved correct, and Teller will be back in the lineup against Baltimore despite not practicing all week.

With Teller’s activation, the Browns no longer have any players on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

Browns place Wyatt Teller on reserve/COVID-19 list, activate Porter Gustin

Teller goes on just as Gustin comes back

The Cleveland Browns have suffered a blow in advance of Monday’s key AFC North matchup with the Baltimore Ravens. The team placed standout right guard Wyatt Teller on the reserve/COVID-19 list on Tuesday in a series of roster moves.

Teller’s status is not an indication he tested positive. He could also have been in close contact with someone who has tested positive.

Teller has played outstanding football for the Browns all season. He is Pro Football Focus’ highest-graded offensive linemen in the entire NFL. Teller did miss four games earlier this season with a calf strain.

He figures to be replaced in the lineup by Chris Hubbard.

Teller is the only Browns player on the reserve/COVID-19 list. The team activated defensive end Porter Gustin in the same series of moves.

Update: Teller did not test positive, which means he can return for Monday’s game if he passes his COVID-19 tests between now and then.

Myles Garrett ready to put COVID-19 symptoms behind him

Garrett got hit hard by his symptoms but is fine after missing two weeks

Don’t tell Myles Garrett that COVID-19 isn’t real. The Browns defensive end missed two weeks after testing positive for the coronavirus and he’s thankful it isn’t more.

Garrett developed several symptoms of COVID-19 and they hit the freakish physical specimen hard. He talked about the battle in his press conference this week.

“My parents had it, kicked their butt. I had it, kicked my butt,” he said. “I was in pain. It wasn’t great.”

Garrett talked about the loss of smell, a constant headache and body aches, loss of energy and a constant bout with a runny nose and sneezing.

He’s fine now and ready to get back on the field with his teammates. The Browns coaching staff will be mindful of his conditioning level, but there were not any lasting effects of the infection found in Garrett’s thorough medical examinations.

He was activated this week and will play in the showdown in Tennessee.

Browns activate Sione Takitaki and Joe Jackson from reserve/COVID-19 list

Takitaki and Jackson can play on Sunday against Tennessee

Two more players are off the reserve/COVID-19 list for the Cleveland Browns. On Friday, the Browns activated linebacker Sione Takitaki and defensive end Joe Jackson from the list.

Both Takitaki and Jackson are now available to play for the Browns on Sunday in Nashville in the AFC showdown with the Tennessee Titans. They each missed the Week 12 win in Jacksonville after testing positive for the coronavirus earlier that week.

They join defensive end Myles Garrett and fullback Andy Janovich as Browns activated this week from the reserve/COVID-19 list. Only defensive end Porter Gustin remains on the list. Gustin was the last Browns player to test positive prior to Week 12.

Browns activate Myles Garrett from reserve/COVID-19 list

Myles Garrett is back with the Browns on the active roster. The Browns activated Garrett from the reserve/COVID-19 list on Tuesday, a day earlier than anticipated.

Garrett has missed the last two weeks after testing positive for the coronavirus the Friday before Cleveland’s Week 11 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. At the time, he led the NFL in sacks and forced turnovers.

On Monday, Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski indicated Garrett was trending towards being activated on Wednesday. But the standout defensive end passed all required protocols to get activated on Tuesday. He will rejoin his teammates for practice on Wednesday, with the team facilities closed all around by NFL mandate on Tuesday.

Garrett joins FB Andy Janovich in returning from the COVID-19 list. Janovich, who also tested positive and missed two games, came off the list on Monday.

Defensive ends Porter Gustin and  Joe Jackson, along with linebacker Sione Takitaki, are still on the team’s reserve/COVID-19 list.

Myles Garrett ‘on track’ to return for Week 13

Garrett has missed two weeks on the reserve/COVID-19 list

The Browns could get a welcome boost this week with the return of standout defensive end Myles Garrett. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski indicated on Monday that Garrett could be activated as early as Wednesday from the team’s reserve/COVID-19 list.

Stefanski rattled through the injury and COVID updates at the onset of his Monday press conference, conducted via Zoom with the team facilities closed by NFL order.

“Myles is on track to be cleared on Wednesday,” Stefanski said.

Later in the press conference, Stefanski further addressed Garrett’s status.

“He’s trending that way,” Stefanski answered when asked if the star defensive end was passing all the required protocols and benchmarks to get activated later this week and in time to face the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.

“We don’t want to win without him. We’ll do it, but he’s a good player, so we want him out there. The guys get a big boost when they see No. 95 out there with them. That’s based on how productive he’s been for us and all the game-changing plays he made for us throughout the season.”

Garrett won the AFC Defensive Player of the Month award for October. He’s been sorely missed in the last two games, even though the Browns have won against Philadelphia and Jacksonville.
