Ohio State led by Cotie McMahon defeats Caitlin Clark, Iowa at home

The Lady Bucks were on fire Sunday against Iowa and Caitlin Clark

In a nationally televised game, the [autotag]Ohio State women’s basketball[/autotag] team in front of a sellout crowd defeated national player of the year front-runner [autotag]Caitlin Clark[/autotag] and her Iowa Hawkeyes 100-92 in overtime.

The Buckeyes were lead by [autotag]Cotie McMahon[/autotag], who scored a career-high 33 points on 12-of-23 shooting while also grabbing 12 rebounds for a double-double. The star sophomore was dominant as the game ended and in overtime, as she scored 8 of her points in the extra period.

It wasn’t just McMahon doing the work for the Lady Bucks, who saw each one of their starters reach double-figures scoring, with Jacy Sheldon adding 24 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists.

The win a big one for the Buckeyes, as it moved them to the No. 2 spot with Indiana, but behind Iowa for the Big Ten lead. It gives them a signature win as they look to get a high seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Ohio State is now 15-2 on the year, 6-1 in the Big Ten and looking to make some big time noise for the remainder of the season.

Ohio State’s Cotie McMahon seals gold medal win for Team USA

Cotie McMahon put Team USA on top for good in the championship game! #GoBucks

Cotie McMahon is good at basketball. The Ohio State freshman broke out for the Buckeyes on the court last year helping lead her team to an appearance in the Elite Eight. She also garnered Big Ten Freshman of the Year and Second Team All-Conference during her first year in Scarlet and Gray.

Now the sophomore-to-be can add gold medalist to her list of accomplishments. McMahon was selected to the Team USA U19 squad as one of 12 players selected for the honor earlier this year.

Team USA steamrolled its way through the tournament handling every other team with relative ease until the gold medal match with Spain. The Spaniards proved a formidable opponent giving the Stars and Stripes all they could handle right up to the final moments of the game. But that’s when Ohio State’s McMahon stepped in and scored the go-ahead bucket in the final minute to secure the Gold for the United States.

McMahon would score 16 points, add six rebounds and three assists in the championship match. For the tournament, she averaged 8.9 points per game, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.4 assists.

The OSU sophomore will be back on the court for the Buckeyes this fall and will be one of the top players in the country.

Ohio State’s Cotie McMahon earns spot on Team USA

Congrats to another very cool experience for Cotie McMahon. #GoBucks

Ohio State women’s basketball’s Cotie McMahon has officially earned a spot on the U19 USA Basketball squad. We told you about her being invited to the team trials last week and thought she had a good chance of making the team. After all, she already has a history of performing well with one of the Team USA junior teams and was one of the best freshmen in women’s college basketball last year.

And now, after going through the paces with 23 other players in Colorado Springs, Colorado, McMahon will again get to wear the Red, White, and Blue for the purpose of participating in the 2023 FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup. The Big Ten’s Freshman of the Year was one of 12 players selected to be a part of the team.

Ohio State women’s basketball forward Cotie McMahon invited to Team USA U19 trials

Good luck to McMahon! #GoBucks

In a very cool opportunity, Ohio State women’s basketball forward, Cotie McMahon, has been invited to participate in the Team USA U10 World Cup team trials for 2023. It’s the second straight year McMahon has had the opportunity to compete for a spot on Team USA. She represented the U18 team that won the Women’s Americas championship in June of last year.

The team trials are set to begin on Friday, and you have to think that the reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Year has a more than decent chance of making the squad. She averaged 15.1 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.4 rebounds during 29.1 minutes of action this past season. A season in which she helped Ohio State reach the Elite 8 before falling to Virginia Tech.

If McMahon makes the team, the U19 USA squad will begin competing against the world’s best in Spain in mid-July. Team USA is set to begin play in Pool B and start its journey against Mali.

We’ll keep you posted on how McMahon does and if she makes her way onto the team wearing the red, white, and blue. We like her chances.

Ohio State women beat Michigan for third time this season, advance in Big Ten Tournament

Three wins in one season for Ohio State over Michigan! #GoBucks

They say it’s hard to beat a team three times in one season. We say not if you are the better team, and that’s what we say on Friday. After a close, white-knuckle affair, the Ohio State women’s basketball team beat rival Michigan 81-79 to advance to the semifinals of the Big Ten Women’s Basketball Tournament.

It’s the first time in program history that Ohio State has beaten Michigan three times in one season, and it sets up a semifinal matchup against No. 1 seed Indiana.

Ohio State had the lead for most of the game and went into halftime up by eight points. But Michigan would not go away, staying within arms reach all contest and eventually taking the lead in the fourth quarter before Ohio State was able to regain the lead very late, the big shot coming from Jacy Sheldon who made an appearance for the first time in a long while because of injury. She hit a 3-pointer to put OSU up by three with just 1:19 left in the game. That was followed by a Cotie McMahon bucket just seconds later for a five-point lead with under a minute left in the contest.

Michigan would scramble and find a way to cut it to two points with a chance to tie, but the Buckeyes had a great defensive possession on the Wolverines’ last attempt to lock it up and secure the win.

The star of the game was without a doubt Freshman Big Ten Player of the Year Cotie McMahon. She was aggressive and assertive, especially in transition and getting in the lane, finishing with a double-double with a game-high 28 points and 12 rebounds. Many of her baskets came at extremely crucial times.

Taylor Thierry (20 points) and Taylor Mikesell (16 points) also scored double figures for the Buckeyes who had to gut one out because of a defense that didn’t turn Michigan over as much as it had in the first two meetings.

The Buckeyes will next take on Indiana at 2:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
