#Bills assistant Cory Harkey interviews for #Panthers’ special teams job:

The Carolina Panthers have reportedly interviewed Buffalo Bills assistant special teams coach Cory Harkey for their vacant special teams coordinator position.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, as of Jan. 29, the interview has already taken place.

Harkey, 33, has only spent time at the NFL level as a coach with Buffalo. The Bills hired him in February 2022 when Matt Smiley was promoted to the coordinator role.

Harkey played in the NFL with the Los Angeles Rams from 2012 to 2016.

In his career, Harkey had 27 catches for 215 yards and three touchdowns. However, his bigger contributions came via special teams.

In Harkey’s five years in the NFL, four of those saw him play in more than half of the Rams’ special teams snaps each season. In the early days of Pro Football Focus, the analytics named him an All-Pro special teamer in 2014.

Prior to coaching with the Bills, Harkey was a tight ends coach at Azusa Pacific University. He also went on to Tennessee State University in 2021 for the same role.

Bills Wire will provide updates as information is made available.

Perhaps the Charlotte-to-Buffalo pipeline could run back the other way, too.

According to ESPN senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler, the Carolina Panthers have interviewed Buffalo Bills assistant special teams coordinator Cory Harkey for their special teams coordinator job.

Harkey, a former tight end, cracked into the NFL in 2012 as an undrafted free agent for the then-St. Louis Rams. The Chino Hills, Calif. native and UCLA product ended up playing five seasons in the league, recording 27 receptions for 215 yards and three touchdowns.

His coaching career began in 2019, as a tight ends coach at Azusa Pacific University. He also went on to Tennessee State University in 2021 for the same role.

The NFL came calling back last season, when Harkey was hired as the Bills’ assistant special teams coach.

In addition to Harkey, Carolina has also reportedly expressed interest in Seattle’s Tracy Smith for their special teams coordinator opening—made vacant by the departure of Chris Tabor.

Report: Bills hiring Cory Harkey as assistant special teams coach

Report: #Bills hire Cory Harkey as assistant special teams coach:

The Buffalo Bills have filled their vacant assistant special teams coach position, according to a report.

Per On3Sports, the Bills have tabbed Cory Harkey for the position. Harkey will fill the vacant spot left by Matt Smiley:

Earlier this month, Buffalo separated from special teams coordinator Heath Farwell. He went on to take on that same job with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Smiley, formerly the team’s assistant special teams coach, was promoted.

That change came after the Bills’ collapse in the final 13 seconds against the Kansas City Chiefs in the postseason. Part of that equation were questions surrounding Buffalo’s final kickoff.

Harkey played in the NFL with the Los Angeles Rams from 2012 to 2016. The 31-year-old was picked up by the Rams as an undrafted player out of UCLA after the 2012 NFL draft.

Harkey landed on injured reserve in December of 2016 due to a triceps injury. He was a final roster cut at the end 2017’s training camp which was his final spell in the NFL as a player.

Since 2019, Harkey has been a college tight ends coach. His most-recent stint was at Tennessee State on Eddie George’s staff in 2021.
