Andy Reid: Three Chiefs injured at Friday practice

Three members of the #Chiefs’ 2022 53-man roster went down with injury during Kansas City’s first practice in pads.

The Kansas City Chiefs conducted their first practice in pads on Friday, and a few key players got banged up as the team ran contract drills at Missouri Western State University.

Head coach Andy Reid updated reporters with all the new developments relative to players who may miss time with injury in his comments after the Chiefs’ workouts.

“[Drue] Tranquill strained his neck, [Jody] Fortson hurt his shoulder, we’re going to check it out here, then [Mike] Danna strained his calf,” Reid said. “But, all in all, it was good work today, guys challenged themselves. A little shorter practice, an hour 40-minute practice. The guys worked it, was good to get them back in pads and working to challenge each other.”

The loss of Tranquill, Fortson, and Danna will certainly affect how both sides of the ball function during Kansas City’s coming workouts if they miss time, but with 89 players on their roster, the Chiefs will give looks to up-and-coming prospects in their absence.

Report: Jamie Collins won’t face further suspension after unnecessary contact with official

Tom Pelissero is reporting that Detroit Lions linebacker Jamie Collins won’t face further suspension after unnecessary contact with an official.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero is reporting that Detroit Lions linebacker Jamie Collins won’t face further suspension after “unnecessary contact” with an official in Week 1.

For a quick refresher of the incident: after Chicago Bears running back David Montgomery finished a run play, Collins objected to Montgomery “lowering his head” — an offensive penalty — and went to complain to the referee about it. Unfortunately, it looked like the referee’s attention was elsewhere and when Collins demonstrated Montgomery’s act, Collins made unnecessary contact with the official.

Here’s a quick clip of the contact:

NFL rules on contact with an official are clear: Don’t do it.

Collins did, and he deserved to be ejected.

Now the next step in the incident evaluation process is for the NFL is to decide if the contact was intentional and deserved a further suspension. According to Pelissero, the NFL will not pursue further action.

Common sense wins in this decision. Collins made an unnecessary action that resulted in an ejection but it’s clear from the video above, and the live coverage surrounding the incident, that there was no intent to be disrespectful.

Seahawks make signing of tackle Cedric Ogbuehi official

The Seattle Seahawks have now officially announced the signing of former Jaguars and Bengals tackle, Cedric Ogbuehi.

The Seattle Seahawks have confirmed yet another free-agent signing that was reported last week. Seattle has now officially announced tackle Cedric Ogbuehi is under contract.

Seattle has been busy over the last few days but followed the NFL Management Council’s request via memo, which instructed teams not to announce any new deals until contracts had actually been signed.

Ogbuehi was originally selected by the Bengals with the No. 21 overall pick in the first round of the 2015 NFL draft out of Texas A&M. After four seasons in Cincinnati, the teams decided not to exercise his fifth-year option and he became an unrestricted free agent. He then signed a one-year deal with the Jaguars in 2019.

Ogbuehi will likely provide depth on the line throughout the offseason as he competes for a spot on the roster. He also has some experience at tight end and could look to replace George Fant in that role.

The Seahawks also officially announced the signing of center/guard B.J. Finney this afternoon as well. You can track all Seattle’s reported free-agent moves here.
