Columbus Crew vs. New York Red Bulls odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Saturday’s Columbus Crew vs. New York Red Bulls odds and lines, with MLS picks and predictions.

The Columbus Crew (9 wins, 7 losses, 15 draws) welcome the New York Red Bulls (14-10-8) to Lower.com Field Saturday. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we preview Tipico Sportsbook‘s lines around the Columbus Crew vs. New York Red Bulls odds, and make our best MLS bets, picks and predictions.

The Crew come into this battle in 8th place, but they are 3 points behind 7th-place Inter Miami with 1 less game played. Columbus has drawn 6 of its last 8 and not consistently being able to close out games has been a fault of the Crews this season.

Columbus is led by star M Lucas Zelarayán, who has 9 goals on the season. Midseason addition F Cucho also has 9 goals, but he’s only played in 14 matches with 12 starts, compared to 26 and 23, respectively, for Zelarayán.

The Crew drew the Red Bulls 1-1 in March. New York, unlike Columbus, is well inside playoff position. The Red Bulls sit 3rd in the East with all the top 5 teams having played 32 matches. Columbus has played 31.

The key attacker for New York has been 26-year-old F Lewis Morgan. He has 14 goals, 9 more than the Red Bulls’ next leading scorer. The Red Bulls are tied for the 3rd-fewest goals allowed in the East.

Prediction

Columbus Crew 2, New York Red Bulls 0

Moneyline (ML)

BET COLUMBUS (+140).

The Crew have to win this game to keep their playoff aspirations alive, and Cucho has given them enough life offensively to be able to hang with the Red Bulls.

Columbus has had fewer expected goals than its opponent in just 1 of its last 5 matchups. It is 6-4-6 at home this season as well.

As for New York, it has lost 2 of its last 3 and should get off to a slow start, having not played since Sept. 17. Captain and CB Aaron Long is also coming back from the USMNT camp, so he may not see a full 90 minutes.

Combine where the motivation is for each side and Columbus’ play recently, and I would back the CREW (+140) to come out on top.

Over/Under (O/U)

LEAN UNDER 2.5 (-140).

Both teams have solid defenses, and the New York offense hasn’t been on top of its game as of late.

It has been held scoreless in 2 of its last 3 battles. The Crew have allowed just 1.13 goals per game as well, the 2nd-fewest in the Eastern Conference.

The Crew have given up more than 1 goal in 2 of their last 5 matches. Similarly, the Red Bulls would have gone Under this already-low total in 3 of their last 4 matches.

New York Red Bulls vs. Columbus Crew odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s New York Red Bulls vs. Columbus Crew odds and lines, with MLS picks and predictions.

The New York Red Bulls (2 wins, 1 loss, 0 draws) welcome the Columbus Crew (2-0-1) to Red Bull Arena Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET. Below, we preview the New York vs. Columbus odds and lines, and make our best MLS bets, picks and predictions.

The Red Bulls currently sit in a three-way tie for 6th place on the Eastern Conference table with 6 points. They have netted 7 goals and allowed just 3, the fourth-fewest goals allowed in the East.

The Red Bulls are 0-1-0 at home and were 8-3-6 at home a season ago — far better than their 5-9-3 road record in 2021. New York M Lewis Morgan is tied for the third-most goals in the MLS with 3 tallies.

The Crew have also started the season off strong. However, their only non-win was an inexcusable draw in which they allowed San Jose to score 2 goals in the final 15 minutes of play despite being a man down.

That draw came in Columbus’ only road game to date. It is led by 2021 All-Star M Lucas Zelarayán, who is tied for the most goals in the MLS with 4 markers.

Prediction

New York 2, Columbus 1

Money line (ML)

LEAN to NEW YORK (-113).

The Red Bulls are coming into this one following a difficult 1-0 home loss to Minnesota United FC last weekend despite having 14 more total shots and 6 more shots on goal.

The Red Bulls outplayed United, but the scoreline didn’t reflect that.

New York ranks second in shooting percentage and second in assists. It’s a team continually learning to play with each other, and it should help propel its success at home.

The Crew struggled in their one road match.

They may once again struggle in New York considering they gave up 3 goals to a weak San Jose team. Columbus is giving up 1.3 goals per game which isn’t quite at the Red Bulls 1.0 opponents’ goals per game level.

Over/Under (O/U)

BET the OVER 2.5 (-105).

The Crew have gone over 2.5 goals in every game this season while New York has combined for 4 and 5 goals in two of its three games this season.

Columbus has one of the best midfielders in the MLS as well which should help them control the pace.

The Red Bulls have also pushed the pace this season and even had 18 shots in their sole game which they didn’t net at least 3 goals. Both teams rank in the top four in shots on target as well.

Two elite attacking sides should be able to net 3 or more goals. This will be the best bet in this afternoon battle.

Prediction

Columbus Crew SC 2, New York Red Bulls 1

Money line (ML)

COLUMBUS CREW SC (-106) hasn’t won consecutive matches since picking up back-to-back wins against Nashville SC and Minnesota United Sept. 20-24, both at home. They Crew won the regular-season finale against Atlanta United 2-1, so now is just as good a time as any to snap that consecutive victories drought.

The New York Red Bulls (+260) wrapped up the regular season with just one loss in the final seven, posting three wins and three draws. Their most recent match against Columbus resulted in a 2-0 setback on July 17. In addition, New York has picked up wins in just three of its past 11 road matches.

Over/Under (O/U)

OVER 2.5 (-139) is the way to go in this one. In New York’s past six road matches, it has seen a total of 23 goals, nearly four total goals per match. Columbus has seen a total of at least three goals in each of the final three games in the regular season, good for an average of 3.0 goals per match.

This won’t be a track meet with end-to-end action all night, but at least three goals is a great bet.
