After a cold streak, the Cubs (-250) are doing a good job taking care of business against an inferior opponent in this series, staying right in the mix for a NL postseason spot.

The Rockies (+205), unlike some other non-contenders, seem simply interested in playing out the string, while having long since thrown in the towel. Still, you can’t risk 2 1/2 times your potential return, even as part of a multi-team parlay.

PASS, and look to the run line instead.

Run line/Against the spread

The CUBS -1.5 (-126) have covered the run line in each of the 1st 2 games in this series. While Chicago struggled for the previous 2 weeks prior to this series, it appears the Cubs can be trusted once again to get the job done when favored.

Over/Under

The UNDER 8.5 (+100) is worth a look at even-money. While the Cubs have notched 6 runs in each of the 1st 2 games of the series, and 6 or more runs in each of the past 5 outings, the Rockies have plated a total of just 5 runs in the past 4 outings.

The Cubs (-250) will cost you 2½ times your potential return. Chicago needs this win badly, and it will get it against the ineffective Flexen. However, there is just too much risk for not enough reward.

The CUBS -1.5 (-125) are a much better play laying the run and a half.

Chicago is in the thick of a playoff push, while Colorado is well out of it. The Cubs covered as favorites on the run line Friday, although they are still just 2-7 in the past 9 games in such situations. Still, they should be able to pile up the offense against Flexen, who has allowed north of 7 runs per every 9 innings.

Over/Under

The UNDER 8.5 (-110) is worth a look, but go lightly.

The wind will be blowing in from left field to 1st base, knocking down any potential home run balls. Still, Chicago should be able to piece together plenty of hits and offense against the very giving Flexen.

The Cub offense should have their way with Davis, who brings some very soft skills to the table. However, they are in a bit of a tailspin lately, so laying greater than 2:1 odds is a little risky. PASS on the moneyline and let’s find some value with the spread or total.

Run line/Against the spread

Taillon has been up and down lately, and throughout most of the season, but he gets a good matchup against a Colorado team that ranks last in wRC+ vs right-handed pitching.

The Cubs have been cold but while they just dropped 2 of 3 games against Pittsburgh, they scored 27 runs in the series, and they are facing a pitcher in Davis who should give them plenty of chances to pile on more runs. The Rockies have lost every game that Davis has pitched in, and that trend should continue so lock in CUBS -1.5 (-115).

Over/Under

Taillon has surrendered 7 HR across his last 4 starts and at least 1 HR in 8 of his last 9 outings. He can’t be counted on to completely shut down Colorado, and the Cub bats are set up for a good day against Davis, who has shown no signs of being a viable big-league starter. Both teams should do their part in pushing this total OVER 9 (-110).
