Former LSU pitcher [autotag]Jaden Hill[/autotag] has received a promotion from the Hartford Yard Goats to the Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes.

Hill was a member of the LSU baseball team from 2018-2021. He finished his career with a 3-3 record and a 4.21 ERA. He struck out 53 hitters and only walked 20 for his career. He was drafted by the [autotag]Colorado Rockies[/autotag] in the 2nd round of the 2021 MLB draft.

He started his professional career in rookie ball for the Rockies in 2022. He advanced to the Rockies High-A affiliate team by the end of the year. He played in 10 games and finished with a 0-0 record and 3.06 ERA. Last season, he started the year in High-A ball and his season did not go as planned. He started 16 games and finished the year with an 0-9 record and a 9.48 ERA.

Despite his struggles, Hill started 2024 in Hartford with the Double-A affiliate. He has appeared in 34 games this season, all coming from the bullpen. He has a 5-2 record and a 3.52 ERA. Those numbers have earned him a call-up to the Albuquerque Isotopes as he is now one step away from the MLB.

Lip readers guessed what Cal Quantrill said to Reese McGuire to spark fiery bench-clearing incident with the Red Sox

Uh, he really went there.

The Rockies and Red Sox don’t have much history between one another — at least nothing that would have been able to spark a brawl in normal circumstances. But Rockies pitcher Cal Quantrill managed to strike a nerve with trash talk directed at the Red Sox’s Reese McGuire on Wednesday.

Lip readers were certain they knew what it was all about.

The incident happened with Colorado up by six runs in the fourth inning. Quantrill induced an inning-ending fly out from McGuire, and the Rockies pitcher was fired up. Quantrill pumped his fists on contact, and McGuire didn’t appreciate the showmanship. Once McGuire said something to Quantrill, the Rockies pitcher had his rebuttal ready to go.

(Warning: NSFW language)

Quantrill appeared to say, “You (expletive) in a (expletive) parking lot, you dumb (expletive).” And that immediately drew the reaction from McGuire. This set McGuire off because, well, Quantrill appeared to be bringing up McGuire’s indecent exposure arrest in 2020. McGuire entered a plea of no contest and was ordered to pay a fine for the second-degree misdemeanor in in Florida.

To bring that up as trash talk was diabolical, and fans almost couldn’t believe *that* was what started the incident. Somehow, no punches were thrown, and the teams were separated without much escalation.

This was how Twitter/X reacted

The truth hits the hardest, apparently.

Charlie Condon reaches agreement on historic MLB draft contract

UGA baseball star Charlie Condon has agreed to sign a contract with the largest draft bonus in MLB history

Former Georgia Bulldogs star third baseman Charlie Condon has agreed to a pro contract that includes a signing bonus worth $9.25 million, which equals the largest draft bonus in MLB history.

Condon fell to the Colorado Rockies and the third pick in the MLB draft. Part of the reason for Condon’s fall from No. 1 might have been his contract. The draft’s No. 1 pick, Travis Bazzana, signed a deal with an $8.95 million bonus, which is well below the No. 1 pick’s $10.57 million bonus slot value. The second pick of the draft, Chase Burns signed a contract with a $9.25 million bonus as well.

Condon was widely considered theĀ best prospect entering the draft, so his dropping to No. 3 was surprising. However, the Cleveland Guardians elected to pinch pennies with the top pick.

The Colorado Rockies have one of the most hitter-friendly parks in baseball, so Condon will have an opportunity to put up big numbers for Colorado. Condon is the power hitter the Rockies desperately need.

Condon is Georgiaā€™s single-season and all-time home run leader. The 6-foot-6, 215-pound third baseman just finished the best power-hitting season in Georgia baseball history. He batted a remarkable .433 (No. 1 in the country) with 37 home runs, 57 walks and 78 RBIs. Condon is a huge reason Georgia hosted a super regional this year.

Condon earned numerous honors for his 2024 season including winning the Golden Spikes Award and the Howser Trophy.

Former Georgia slugger signs largest draft bonus in MLB history

Georgia Bulldogs third baseman Charlie Condon signed the largest signing bonus in MLB draft history with the Colorado Rockies.

One of college baseball’s most exciting players got himself a nice payday on Friday.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported that former Georgia third baseman Charlie Condon signed a deal with a $9.25M signing bonus with the Colorado Rockies, who selected him third overall in the 2024 MLB draft last week.

Condon’s bonus equals the bonus signed by the No. 2 pick, right-handed pitcher Chase Burns out of Wake Forest. It is the biggest draft bonus in MLB history.

Condon was an absolute superstar in 2024, slashing an otherworldly .433/.556/1.009 with 37 home runs, 78 RBI, and 20 doubles – earning SEC Player of the Year honors.

He popped 25 home runs with a .386 batting average his first season with the Bulldogs in 2023, and flashed versatility all over the diamond by playing first base, third base, left field, and right field across his two collegiate seasons.

Condon was one of nine SEC players picked in the first round of the MLB draft, and was joined in the top five by Arkansas left-handed pitcher Hagen Smith.

Rockies draft LSU pitcher Justin Loer in 13th round

Justin Loer has an additional year of college eligibility if he chooses to use it.

With the 378th pick of the [autotag]2024 MLB Draft[/autotag], the [autotag]Colorado Rockies[/autotag] selected [autotag]Justin Loer[/autotag], a left-handed pitcher from LSU.

Justin Loer transferred to LSU after spending two seasons at Xavier. During his time with the Musketeers, Loer had an 8-3 record with a 2.41 ERA. He made 34 appearances out of the bullpen in those two seasons. Last year for LSU, Loer had a 2-0 record and a 5.92 ERA. He struck out 30 hitters and walked 12 over 24.1 innings of work.

Loer won’t be the only former LSU player joining the Rockies pitching staff in the minor leagues. Yesterday the Rockies drafted Fidel Ulloa from LSU. They will be teammates once again if Loer decides to sign with Colorado.

Loer was just a junior for the Tigers last season so he still has a year of eligibility left if he wants to use it, though he entered the transfer portal following the season. Congratulations to Justin and his family on hearing his name was drafted in the 13th round.

Florida’s Fisher Jameson gets Day 2 call in 2024 MLB draft

Fisher Jameson is the third Gator to hear his named called during the 2024 MLB draft so far.

The Colorado Rockies selected Florida baseball’s right-handed pitcher [autotag]Fisher Jameson[/autotag] in the 10th round of the 2024 MLB draft with the 288th overall pick on Monday.

He follows first baseman/left-handed pitcher [autotag]Jac Caglianone[/autotag] (Round 1, Pick 6 ā€“ Kansas City Royals) and right-hander [autotag]Brandon Neely[/autotag] (Round 3, Pick 86 ā€“ Boston Red Sox) as the third Gator selected so far.

The Lake Worth, Florida, native became the 223rd individual draft selection in UF baseball history and the 108th in head coach [autotag]Kevin O’Sullivan[/autotag]’s 17-year tenure. Jameson is the 57th pitcher to be drafted under O’Sullivan, equating to 3.4 per season.

Jameson led all UF hurlers with a 3.99 ERA and 1.15 WHIP this past season ā€” representing the team’s biggest breakout performance among the pitching corps ā€” while also posting a perfect 5-0 record across a team-high 34 appearances. His .237 batting average against ranked second on the team and his 67 2/3 innings were good for third; he also struck out 79 batters against just 18 walks.

Across the team’s final 31 games, Jameson led Florida with 17 appearances, a 3.35 ERA and .226 BAA over 40 1/3 frames. In that span, he delivered a 3-0 record, three saves and 47 strikeouts while issuing only nine free passes. Jameson played a vital role in each of the Gators’ College World Series trips from 2023-24.

Colorado Rockies select LeBarron Johnson Jr. on Day 2

In the fifth round, Colorado used the 139th overall pick on RHP Lebarron Johnson Jr.

The Colorado Rockies selected a Texas Longhorn on Monday afternoon for the second time in the MLB Draft. In the fifth round, Colorado used the 139th overall pick on RHP Lebarron Johnson Jr. He will join fellow Longhorn Jared Thomas, who heard his name called on Sunday.

During the 2024 campaign, Johnson appeared in 17 games, making 15 starts. In 72.1 innings, he posted a 5.60 ERA and struck out 84 batters. While his numbers may not jump off the page, he showed his potential in his final start of the season against Texas A&M. Against the national runner-up, the talented RHP struck out eight batters in five innings.

Over the last three years, the Jacksonville native posted a 4.04 ERA in 55 games for the Longhorns. As Johnson split time between the bullpen and rotation, he struck out 203 batters and helped opponents to a .248 batting average. For an organization that has struggled to develop pitching, his versatility will be a welcome addition for the Rockies.

With one year of eligibility left, Johnson has until August 1 to decide whether to return to Texas or sign with the Rockies. The value for the 139th overall pick’s signing bonus is $500,000, but that is not set in stone.

If the Rockies can sign Johnson, they will add a pitcher with an intriguing pitch mix. His arsenal includes a fastball that tops out in the low 90s paired with a splitter and cutter that keep batters off balance.

Over the next few weeks, Johnson will be a player to watch as he decides what is best for his baseball career.
