Georgiev has stopped 54-of-57 shots so far. He clocked a 2.35 GAA and .918 SV% last season. Both were career bests for the NHL veteran who earned a career-high 62 games in net.

Grubauer is coming off allowing just 2 goals on 34 shots at the Nashville Predators Thursday. The former Avs netminder (2018-21) logged a .928 SV% against Colorado last season.

Avalanche at Kraken picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 4, Kraken 3

Moneyline

A Colorado club that piled up 109 points in winning the 2023 Central Division crown was ousted by Seattle in the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Look for the Avalanche — who were sharp in their opener and 0-for-5 on the powerplay in a strange 2nd game — to come out strong in a retribution effort.

The Avs’ road prowess is something they’ll want to flaunt again in 2023-24. And Seattle may be due some puck luck, but some regression in goals allowed also seems likely based on the quality scoring chances it is yielding.

BACK COLORADO (-155).

Puck line/Against the spread

Would want a better return on the Avs here. PASS.

Over/Under

Mixed signals underpinning this one. Not enough data in yet. AVOID.

Seattle Kraken at Colorado Avalanche Game 7 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Sunday’s Seattle Kraken vs. Colorado Avalanche Game 7 odds and lines, with expert NHL picks, predictions and best bets.

The Seattle Kraken and the Colorado Avalanche square off Sunday for a decisive Game 7 of the Western Conference quarterfinals, as the series shifts back to Denver. Puck drop from Ball Arena is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. ET (TNT). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Kraken vs. Avalanche odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Series tied 3-3

Win or lose, the Kraken have impressed in their 1st-ever trip to the postseason. Seattle suffered a disappointing 4-1 loss on home ice in Game 6, a closeout game. Still, the Kraken have scored 16 goals in the first 6 games, to 18 scored for the Avalanche, more than holding their own against the defending champs.

The Avalanche had their backs to the wall in Game 6, but showed its championship mettle, despite playing without the likes of Gabriel Landeskog (knee – out for the playoffs) and Valeri Nichushkin (personal). Darren Helm has also been sidelined due to an undisclosed injury.

In addition, Andrew Cogliano was hit from behind near the boards by Jordan Eberle in Game 6, and he suffered a fractured bone in his neck. Cogliano is now out indefinitely. Amazingly, Cogliano was able to return to the game after the hit, but he is now sidelined, too.

Colorado has dropped 2 of 3 games on home ice, and Seattle actually went 26-11-4 on the road, while going just 20-17-4 at home. So the ability for the Kraken to win on the road is no real surprise.

Kraken at Avalanche projected goalies

Philipp Grubauer (17-14-4, 2.85 GAA, .895 SV% – regular season) vs. Alexandar Georgiev (40-16-6, 2.53 GAA, .919 SV%, 5 SO – regular season)

Grubauer has allowed 3 or fewer goals in each of his last 3 games, and he has served as a real thorn in the side of his former teammates. Grubauer is 3-3-0 with a 2.68 GAA and .919 SV% in this postseason, including 2 wins in Denver.

Georgiev kicked aside 22 of the 23 shots he faced in Game 6, keep the Avalanche afloat for this decisive Game 7. He has posted a 3-3-0 record, 2.69 GAA and .913 SV% in his 6 starts, his 1st 6 playoff starts in the NHL.

Kraken at Avalanche picks and predictions

Prediction

Kraken 3, Avalanche 2

Moneyline

The KRAKEN (+180) are worth a roll of the dice, as they’re actually a much better team on the road than at home.

Yes, it’s a difficult spot playing in a Game 7 on the road, especially against the defending champs. But this team doesn’t have the same firepower as they had last season, and they’re certainly beatable. At plus-money, for a chance to nearly double up, Seattle is a much better value.

I also like the postseason experience of Grubauer over Georgiev, who is playing his 1st Game 7.

As an added bonus, Seattle has been led by Justin Schultz with a goal and 5 points in these playoffs. Jaden Schwartz has 2 goals and 5 points to tie Schultz atop the charts. Schwartz is worth playing at BetMGM Sportsbook in the scoring props at even-money, or SCHWARTZ OVER 0.5 POINTS (+100).

Puck line/Against the spread

The KRAKEN +1.5 (-145) isn’t priced out of line if you feel this will be a 1-goal game going in favor of the home side instead. No one can blame you for wanting some insurance, and not wanting to pick against the defending champ Avalanche -1.5 (+120).

Over/Under

UNDER 6 (-120) might be the best pick on the board in this Game 7.

We’ve seen the Under cash in 5 of the 6 games in this series so far, and we should see both sides being very calculated on the offensive end, not wanting to make a mistake leading to an odd-man rush the other way. I could even see this one as a 1-1 or 2-2 game heading to OT to decide a winner.

Colorado Avalanche at Seattle Kraken Game 6 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Friday’s Colorado Avalanche at Seattle Kraken Game 6 odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Colorado Avalanche and the Seattle Kraken meet Friday for Game 6 of the Western Conference quarterfinals, as the series shifts back to Seattle. Puck drop from Climate Pledge Arena is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET (TNT). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Avalanche vs. Kraken odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

Kraken lead the series 3-2.

The defending champ Avalanche face an elimination game against the 2nd-year Kraken. Colorado lost a pivotal Game 5 on home ice 3-2 Wednesday. While Colorado has had some injury issues, missing Gabriel Landeskog, while also losing Valeri Nichushkin to a personal issue, it still has had its chances.

The Kraken have taken advantage of some miscues and bad bounces for the Avs, and it has done what got them into the playoffs in the 1st place. Seattle has fought and clawed for everything, while winning on the road. That was the regular-season recipe for success, and it has spilled over into the playoffs.

Seattle has scored 3 or more goals in 4 of the 5 games in this series, and it holds a slight 15-14 edge in goals scored.

Avalanche at Kraken projected goalies

Alexandar Georgiev (40-16-6, 2.53 GAA, .919 SV%, 5 SO – regular season) vs. Philipp Grubauer (17-14-4, 2.85 GAA, .895 SV% – regular season)

Georgiev allowed 3 goals on 29 shots in the setback in Game 5, and he has now lost back-to-back starts for the 1st time since March 4-5. Oddly enough, in that 2-game losing skid in March, one of the setbacks was against the Kraken in OT in Denver.

Grubauer, the former Avalanche backstop, stopped 26 of the 28 shots he faced in the Game 5 win in his old stomping ground. The German-born tendy is 3-2-0 with a 2.61 GAA and .918 SV% in 5 games in this postseason. It is the same 2.61 GAA he posted in 2021 as a member of the Avs in 10 playoff games.

Avalanche at Kraken picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 3, Kraken 2

Moneyline

The AVALANCHE (-160) are moderate favorites, and they’re going to get it done on the road. Look for Colorado to show off its championship mettle, scratching out a close win to deny the Kraken (+135) their 1st-ever playoff series win.

Colorado is 12-5 in the past 17 games when playing on a day of rest. The road team is also 6-2 in the previous 8 meetings in this series.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Kraken +1.5 (-190) is just a little too pricey for my liking just for a little insurance. If you like Seattle, especially on its home ice, just play it straight up for a much better value.

PASS.

Over/Under

UNDER 6 (-120) is the lean in Game 6.

We’ve seen the Under cash in 8 of the last 9 meetings between these teams. The intensity in this series will be at an all-time high, too.

Look for the Kraken to be nervous, playing in its 1st-ever close-out game, while the Avalanche will likely be very calculated and careful, as it doesn’t want to take too many chances leading to odd-man rushes the other way.

Colorado Avalanche at Seattle Kraken Game 4 odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Monday’s Colorado Avalanche at Seattle Kraken Game 4 odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Colorado Avalanche face the Seattle Kraken on Monday for Game 4 of their Western Conference quarterfinals series. The Avalanche lead the series 2-1. Puck drop from Climate Pledge Arena is scheduled for 10 p.m. ET (TBS). Below, we analyze BetMGM Sportsbook’s lines around the Avalanche vs. Kraken odds, and make our expert NHL picks and predictions.

The defending champion Avalanche spoiled Seattle’s party in its first-ever home playoff game with a 6-4 victory Saturday. Superstar C Nathan MacKinnon scored a pair of goals in the victory.

Colorado picked up the win despite missing key-scoring RW Valeri Nichushkin, who was away from the team due to undisclosed personal reasons. Coach Jared Bednar offered no timetable for when the veteran might return.

The Kraken actually opened the scoring at 6:08 of the 1st period when C Jaden Schwartz scored his first of 2 goals on the night. Colorado scored the next 3 goals before D Jamie Oleksiak and C Matty Beniers scored within 19 seconds of each other in to knot the game up 2-2.

However, D Mikko Rantanen and MacKinnon took over in the final frame, scoring 3 goals. Schwartz put a bow on the scoring on the power play with 40 seconds remaining.

Alexandar Georgiev (40-16-6, 2.53 GAA, .919 SV%, 5 SO – regular season) vs. Philipp Grubauer (17-14-4, 2.85 GAA, .895 SV% – regular season)

Georgiev blew an early lead, but he shut it down in the 3rd period in Game 3. He allowed 4 goals on 29 shots in the road win, and while he is 2-1-0 in this series, he has been giving with a 3.04 GAA and .898 SV%, both rather subpar numbers.

Grubauer was sharp in the series opener in Denver, stopping 34 of the 35 shots he faced. He made 38 saves in Game 2, but he coughed up 5 goals on 33 shots in the Game 3 home loss.

Avalanche at Kraken picks and predictions

Prediction

Kraken 4, Avalanche 3

Moneyline

While it didn’t happen in Game 3, the KRAKEN (+125) will get the first playoff home win in franchise history on Monday.

The Avalanche have been missing LW Gabriel Landeskog (knee) in these playoffs and definitely didn’t need to lose Nichushkin. Depth veteran C Darren Helm has been in and out of the lineup in this series, making things a little more challenging for the champs.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Kraken +1.5 (-200) will cost you 2 times your potential return, and that’s just too much if you need some insurance and can’t pull the trigger on Seattle straight up.

PASS.

Over/Under

The OVER 6 (-105) is the lean, although don’t get too crazy.

The Over cashed in Game 3 with a total of 10 goals, but we had just 9 total goals in the first 2 meetings in the series, so be careful.

The Over is 6-0 in the past 6 road games for the Avalanche, while going 7-3 in the past 10 Conference Quarterfinals games.

Avalanche at Kraken projected goalies

Pavel Francouz (6-6-0, 2.61 GAA, .917 SV%, 1 SO) vs. Philipp Grubauer (4-8-1, 3.37 GAA, .888 SV%)

Francouz will likely get the starting nod after Alexandar Georgiev started and won in Vancouver Friday. The backup has won 2 straight starts and 4 of the previous 5 outings. Francouz is 2-1-0 with a 2.03 GAA and .932 SV% with a shutout in 3 January outings.

Grubauer allowed just 2 goals on 29 shots in a home loss against the Tampa Bay Lightning Monday. He has allowed 3 or fewer goals in 6 straight starts dating back to Dec. 13.

Avalanche at Kraken picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 4, Kraken 2

Moneyline

The AVALANCHE (+100) are a solid play, as Colorado has been red-hot lately. The offense is clicking, and the Avs are looking for a season-high 5th-consecutive victory.

The Avs playing in the second end of a back-to-back shouldn’t dissuade you from picking them, as they’re 15-5 in the past 20 games playing on no rest.

Puck line/Against the spread

The Avalanche +1.5 (-250) will cost you 2 1/2 times your potential return if you want to back the defending champs on the road.

AVOID, as that’s too much risk for not enough reward. Just play them straight up.

Over/Under

UNDER 6.5 (-120) is the play.

For Colorado, the Avs are 4-0-1 in the past 5 games on the road, while going 12-3-1 in the past 16 games against Western Conference foes. The Under is also 9-3 in the past 12 games when playing on no rest, and 15-5-1 in the past 21 against teams with a winning overall record.

For Seattle, the Under is 12-4-1 in the past 17 games at Climate Pledge Arena, while hitting at a 5-2 clip in the past 7 against Central Division foes.

Colorado Avalanche at Seattle Kraken odds, picks and predictions

Analyzing Wednesday’s Colorado Avalanche at Seattle Kraken odds and lines, with NHL expert picks, predictions and best bets.

The Colorado Avalanche (55-15-6) play Goliath as they take on the expansion Seattle Kraken (25-44-6) Wednesday at Climate Pledge Arena. Puck drop is slated for 10 p.m. ET (ESPN+). Below, we look at the Avalanche vs. Kraken odds and lines, and make our expert NHL picks, predictions and bets.

The Avs’ nine-game win streak was snapped in a 3-2 loss against the Washington Capitals Monday. We hope you cashed in on that +170. The Avs started slowly and weren’t able to bounce back this time. That should stoke a fire in them for this one.

Seattle has won two straight as they knocked off the Ottawa Senators 4-2 Monday. The Kraken have surprisingly won five of their last 10 games as they are really limiting the shots on goal. Ottawa had just 14 against them Monday.

Avalanche at Kraken odds and lines

Odds provided by Tipico Sportsbook; access USA TODAY Sports Scores and Sports Betting Odds hub for a full list. Lines last updated at 9:05 a.m. ET.

  • Money line: Avalanche -320 (bet $320 to win $100) | Kraken +250 (bet $100 to win $250)
  • Against the spread (ATS): Avalanche -1.5 (-135) | Kraken +1.5 (+110)
  • Over/Under (O/U): 6.5 (O: -112 | U: -108)

Avalanche at Kraken projected goalies

Pavel Francouz (15-3-1, 2.49 GAA, .919 SV%, 2 SO) vs. Philipp Grubauer (17-29-5, 3.11 GAA, .891 SV%, 2 SO)

Darcy Kuemper could take this start, but this feels like a spot for Francouz to give him a breather as Kuemper has been struggling a bit. Francouz was in net for the 4-3 win over the Kraken in January. He’s on a six-game win streak but has allowed at least 3 goals in four of the six.

The 30-year-old German has looked good in April. He’s 2-2 with a 2.23 GAA, a .916 SV% and a shutout of the Chicago Blackhawks this month. As mentioned, the Kraken have limited shots on net. Grubauer hasn’t faced 30 shots since March 16. However, his numbers against Colorado this season are ugly as he’s allowed 7 goals on 52 shots between one start and one relief appearance.

[tipico]

Avalanche at Kraken picks and predictions

Prediction

Avalanche 4, Kraken 2

Money line

No thanks to that -320. PASS.

Against the spread

This isn’t going to be very profitable, and it might entail more risk than it’s worth, but we’re going with the AVALANCHE -1.5 (-135) here. The Kraken took a 3-2 lead into the third period last time against Colorado last time they met, and the Avs scored two goals in the third to sink them. They’ll be prepared this time. Coming off a loss already and having that fishy taste in their mouths, they’ll look to keep distance between them and the Kraken.

Over/Under

The Kraken are averaging 2.7 goals per game over the last 10, which is just a tick above their 2.6 average for the season. Colorado is averaging 3.8 goals per contest this season, but there are wild swings of 9 and 7 goals to mask their inconsistency. This could easily go over if the Avs are ticked off enough, but the smart money is on the UNDER 6.5 (-108).
