Collin ‘Young Bull’ Sexton actually stomped the ground like a literal bull before charging at Nikola Jokic and it was so fun

Collin Sexton took “Young Bull” way too seriously here and it’s great

The Utah Jazz are going to stink this year. That just is what it is. There’s a reason they’re dead last in our watchability rankings. This is a prime Victor Wembanyama potential destination.

But they’re almost certainly going to pull out some fun wins, too. Most bad teams do. Especially when you’ve got some absolute bucket-getters on your squad.

That’s what Collin Sexton is. He doesn’t think there’s anyone he cannot beat, and that is amazing.

But the best part about it is Sexton will give you a show. He’s not just going to get a bucket — he’s going to perform that bucket, too. He’s going to give you a show. That’s just what he does. It’s who he’s always been. And it’s perfect.

He did it again against the Nuggets in the Jazz’s season opener on Wednesday night. My man really stamped the ground like an actual bull before taking off at Nikola Jokic.

Just call him Collin “They don’t call me Young Bull for no reason” Sexton at this point.

Might have to reconsider that watchability ranking now. Thanks, Young Bull.

Jazz officially announce acquisitions of Sexton, Agbaji from Cavaliers

The Jazz finalized the trade involving Donovan Mitchell on Thursday after each player successfully completed their physicals.

The Utah Jazz on Thursday announced they acquired Collin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen and Ochai Agbaji from the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Donovan Mitchell.

The trade was agreed upon on Sept. 1 and it was reported at that time that the Jazz will also receive three unprotected first-round picks and two pick swaps. The Jazz finalized the transaction on Thursday after each player successfully completed his physical.

Utah worked throughout much of the summer to find a new destination for Mitchell. The organization set a high price for its All-Star and did not waver from that request, ultimately leading to a haul of players and future assets from Cleveland.

On the other side, the Cavaliers upgraded their roster after failing to qualify for the playoffs last season. The team added a bona fide scorer, Mitchell, to a roster that includes All-Stars Jarrett Allen and Darius Garland and second-year center Evan Mobley.

The Cavaliers improved their odds of winning the championship next season, according to the Tipico Sportsbook. They moved from plus-10,000 to plus-5,000 following the trade, which represents the sixth-best odds in the Eastern Conference.

Collin Sexton lands massive contract from Utah Jazz

Collin Sexton just got PAID, here are the details.

In part of a league-altering move that resulted in Donovan Mitchell being traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers, former Crimson Tide superstar, [autotag]Collin Sexton[/autotag], found himself as part of the trade package for Mitchell and is headed west to join the Utah Jazz.

Immediately after the trade, Sexton signed a massive deal with the Jazz for four years worth $71 million. As shown below, Sexton’s contract will start at $16.5 million and it increases 5% each year.

Sexton, unfortunately, missed a majority of the 2021-2022 NBA season due to a torn meniscus suffered in November. In the 11 games he appeared in prior to the injury, Sexton was averaging 16.0 ppg, 3.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists.

However, Sexton has been incredibly promising as he was named to the NBA All-Rookie second team in 2019 and has only gotten better from that point. Through four seasons, Sexton’s career averages are 20 ppg, 3.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists and just shy of one steal.

The trade to Utah should result in Sexton getting a lot more looks as the Jazz’s new No. 1 option. It will be fun to see if Sexton can make his first All-Star game appearance this upcoming season.

After nearly two months of reported trade discussions between the Jazz and Knicks over Donovan Mitchell, the Cavaliers swooped in and acquired the coveted guard. They will be sending back the Jazz a haul featuring three unprotected first-round picks, two pick swaps, Collin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen, and Ochai Agbaji, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The acquisition of Mitchell, along with the expected continual development of Darius Garland and Evan Mobley, should elevate the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference.

Below is a breakdown of the trade and how it impacts the Cavaliers and Jazz going forward.

Jazz to acquire Collin Sexton, Ochai Agbaji from Cavs for Donovan Mitchell

The Jazz have reportedly agreed to trade Mitchell to the Cavaliers for a package that includes Sexton, Agbaji and several draft picks.

The Utah Jazz have reportedly agreed to trade Donovan Mitchell to the Cleveland Cavaliers for a package that includes Collin Sexton, Lauri Markkanen, Ochai Agbaji and several draft picks.

Utah will acquire three unprotected first-round picks and two pick swaps from Cleveland as part of the trade. The Jazz were also in talks to trade Mitchell to New York, but ultimately the Knicks opted out of the negotiations.

Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports first reported the details of the trade.

On the other side, the Cavaliers upgraded their roster after failing to qualify for the playoffs last season. The team added a bona fide scorer, Mitchell, to a roster that includes Jarrett Allen, Darius Garland, Evan Mobley and Kevin Love.

The trade timing will give all parties involved time to prepare for the upcoming season. Teams open training up camp this month; most begin Sept. 27. Now, the Jazz and Cavaliers will have new pieces to add to their respective groups.

Lakers reportedly have interest in Cavaliers’ Collin Sexton

A prominent NBA reporter says that the Lakers want to acquire guard Collin Sexton, a young, talented scorer for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

This is going to be a huge offseason for the Los Angeles Lakers.

They have to figure out whether they will trade or keep Russell Westbrook, and there are holes throughout the roster that must be addressed.

Reportedly, the Lakers are interested in somehow acquiring Collin Sexton, a rising star guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Via Lakers Daily:

“According to a recent report, the Lakers have interest in Cleveland Cavaliers guard Collin Sexton.

“‘Anyway, there are so many things to consider here,’ Sam Amico of Hoops Wire reported. ‘[Darius] Garland and Sexton share an agent. Garland became the face of the Cavs. The Cavs traded for Caris LeVert, who plays Sexton’s position. And Sexton is drawing plenty of interest — with a few league sources telling me even LeBron James‘ Lakers are interested. (That’s not happening, but explaining why is another full day of Dribbles).'”

Sexton, who is 23 years of age, missed most of this season due to a torn meniscus in his left knee. But last season, he put up 24.3 points a game for the young Cavs.

He will be a free agent next month, and he is expected to command a pretty generous contract from someone.

If the Lakers were to acquire him, it would presumably have to be via a sign-and-trade which would presumably involve Russell Westbrook. But why would the Cavs, a defensive-minded team that is rapidly on the rise, want Westbrook?

The other issue is that while Sexton is a very skilled scorer, at 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, he is defensively challenged, and he is more of an off-guard, as he is not a particularly talented passer or floor general.

6 future restricted free agents who could be dealt at the NBA trade deadline, from Nic Claxton to Bol Bol

Here are six of the players to keep an eye on as we inch closer to the trade deadline.

The NBA trade deadline — February 10 at 3PM Eastern — is hard to predict and players may unexpectedly find themselves on the move. But there are some trends we’ve learned.

For example, NBA teams often make a decision about a player’s free agency before the free agency period actually begins. If an organization decides that they are going to move on from a player, it makes sense to see if they can get any assets in return.

That is one of the reasons why the Knicks recently moved on from Kevin Knox, who was recently traded to the Atlanta Hawks in a deal to land Cam Reddish.

Of course, some teams may be reluctant to trade for an upcoming free agent like Knox. But it’s occasionally advantageous because if they are able to bring a player into the fold before he actually hits the open market, they get the first opportunity to establish chemistry between the two parties. If it doesn’t work out, meanwhile, it’s a way of clearing up cap space on their salary books.

As such, when surveying the league to find the players most likely to see their name in trade rumors, upcoming restricted free agents are a good place to begin.

Here are six of the players to keep an eye on as we inch closer to the trade deadline:

Collin Sexton officially ruled out for remainder of season

Collin Sexton will look to return next season.

The 2021-2022 NBA season was former Alabama guard Collin Sexton’s fourth year in the league since being the No. 8 overall pick in the 2018 draft.

Spending all four seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Sexton is one of the young centerpieces the franchise has attempted to build around.

The Cavaliers will have to wait until next season to have Sexton back on the court, however, as he is officially ruled out for the remainder of the season after having surgery for a torn left meniscus, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Roll Tide Wire will continue to cover Sexton as he heals from surgery and gears up for his return next season.

Crimson Tide in the NBA: A comprehensive list

The Crimson Tide added quite a few NBA players over the past few years!

Alabama’s basketball program is enjoying a surge of success. Just last year, the team put together the programs best season since 2004, bringing to Tuscaloosa both an SEC regular season title and the SEC Tournament title.

In the postseason, the Crimson Tide advanced to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament.

Over the past few years, Nate Oats has had his hands on some top-tier talent. Even former head coach Avery Johnson found himself with a stud on the court in Collin Sexton.

This top-tier talent made its way to the NBA after their time at Alabama, and the following list will cover every Tide basketball player repping the crimson and white in the NBA.

Collin Sexton to become an RFA after 2021-2022 season

The former Crimson Tide star could see himself with a new team following the 2021-22 season!

Alabama basketball fans remember the name Collin Sexton very well. The former Crimson Tide star started in nearly every game in his only year at the Capstone and averaged 19.2 PPG and shot 44% from the field.

Sexton helped lead the Tide to a 20-16 record during the 2017-2018 season and even helped Alabama enter the AP Poll during the season, reaching No. 24.

Word has gotten out that the Cleveland Cavaliers have failed to reach an agreement with Sexton, meaning that he will become a restricted free-agent following the conclusion of the 2021-2022 season.

Since being drafted by the Cavs at No. 8 in the first round of the 2018 NBA Draft, Sexton has averaged 20.2 PPG.

Sexton would make a fine addition to any roster in the NBA after his contract expires, but being a restricted free-agent means that the Cavs have the right to retain him by matching the terms of any offer sheet Sexton chooses to sign with another team.

If Cleveland declines to match the terms, Sexton is free to go wherever his heart desires.

Stay tuned to Roll Tide Wire for continued coverage of the Alabama Crimson Tide and its prominent alumni!
