In his first season as the program’s head coach, [autotag]Manny Diaz[/autotag] won his first five games to kick-start what is currently a 7-3 campaign. With the Blue Devils’ most recent win in Raleigh, the team beat both the North Carolina Tar Heels and NC State Wolfpack in the same season for the first time in more than a decade.
If Duke can beat either Virginia Tech or Wake Forest over the next two weeks, the Blue Devils could clinch their third straight eight-win season.
Just like every other major college football ranking, the Oregon Ducks took the top overall spot. With the ACC in a chaotic three-team race for the conference title, Myerberg has Miami (10th) and SMU (11th) as the best teams in the league. The Clemson Tigers (14th) remain alive, but they’d need an upset or two to make it to Charlotte.
Georgia is no longer a top 10 team according to college football analyst Rece Davis
ESPN “College GameDay” analyst Rece Davis released his top 10 rankings after Week 11 of the college season. Davis has a vote for the Associated Press and agreed with the media consensus for his top team this week. He ranked the Oregon Ducks No. 1.
Unfortunately for UGA fans, he ranked the Georgia Bulldogs outside of the top 10 for the first time in nearly four years. It was well-deserved after a rough 28-10 loss to the Ole Miss Rebels, where Carson Beck and the Georgia offense turned the ball over three times. Ole Miss, for their part, usurps Georgia for the No. 10 spot.
Georgia is in win-or-die mode heading into their home matchup vs. Tennessee, who is the No. 5 team in Davis’ rankings. A loss to Tennessee could eliminate Georgia from the College Football Playoff picture, but a win would keep Georgia alive in the SEC championship race.
Two other big matchups took place this weekend. Alabama and LSU matched up in a must-win game and it appears only Alabama got the memo, sinking the Tigers 42-13 thanks to 185 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns from quarterback Jalen Milroe. Alabama is ranked No. 9. LSU, is outside of the top 10 and has no hope of making the playoff now.
The other big matchup was Miami at Georgia Tech. The Hurricanes were looking to keep their undefeated season alive. They were in position to prove all the preseason doubters wrong and go on a magical run, but their undefeated run ended with a 28-23 loss to the Yellow Jackets. Now, Miami also falls out of the top 10, plummeting to No. 12 behind Georgia on the list.
Week 12 will feature some more games with massive implications. Georgia’s matchup versus Tennessee will have the most coverage on it, but Clemson’s matchup versus Pittsburgh is another one to keep an eye on.
Thanks to Miami’s loss, the Clemson Tigers find themselves in the second spot in the ACC and a win against Pittsburgh would go a long way in making sure they play in the ACC championship against SMU or Miami.
Rece Davis’ top 10 college football rankings after Week 10
Four Big Ten teams are ranked within the top ten of both major polls ahead of week 11.
The Big Ten will enter week 11 of the 2024 college football season with four of the top ten teams in the country in both the US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25.
Oregon is the consensus No. 1 team, with all 62 first-place votes in the AP Poll and 53 of 54 first-place votes in the Coaches poll. The Ohio State Buckeyes, fresh off a top-five win over then No. 3 Penn State, are the No. 3 team in both polls.
Penn State, after suffering its first loss of the season, dropped to No. 6 in the AP Poll and No. 7 in the Coaches poll, while Indiana made its top ten debut at No. 8 and No. 10 in each respective poll.
Outside of the four top-ten-ranked teams, the Big Ten has no other conference members ranked within the top 25 this week. The Washington Huskies were the only other program to receive votes in the AP Poll, while the Minnesota Golden Gophers, the Iowa Hawkeyes, and the Illinois Fighting Illini all received votes in the Coaches Poll.

Here’s what Joel Klatt said about Alabama’s massive showdown with LSU on Nov. 9.
Fox Sports analyst Joel Klatt has updated his projected College Football Playoff rankings entering the month of November — along with a bold prediction for the Nov. 9 showdown in Baton Rouge between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the LSU Tigers.
Speaking on the Thursday edition of his daily podcast, “The Joel Klatt Show: A College Football Podcast,” Klatt unveiled his new 12-team playoff projections entering the month of November. He sees the Oregon Ducks as the Big Ten champion and No. 1 seed with the Georgia Bulldogs as the SEC champion and No. 2 seed.
The Clemson Tigers were Klatt’s projected ACC champion and No. 3 seed, and the BYU Cougars as the No. 4 seed and Big 12 champion.
As for Alabama, Klatt projected the Crimson Tide as the No. 10 seed after predicting that Kalen DeBoer’s team will beat LSU at Tiger Stadium. Kickoff for Alabama-LSU is 6:30 p.m. CT on Nov. 9. The game will be televised on ABC.
Klatt said on his podcast:
“Remember, ‘Bama has the win over Georgia. And in this case, I would have them winning, at night, at LSU. So, they’re in. They’re absolutely in.”
Earlier this week, Klatt ranked Jalen Milroe and the Crimson Tide at No. 9 in his Top 10 rankings.
Klatt said of Alabama after its 34-0 win over the Missouri Tigers:
“That was a big bounce-back win for Alabama on Saturday, even if it was against a Missouri team that has been overrated since the beginning of the season. Alabama’s defense played incredibly well after a few weeks of underwhelming play. I’m not sure how much we should take from that game because I don’t think Missouri is particularly good. But when you win 34-0 against an SEC opponent, it should mean something.”
Where does Georgia rank in ESPN college football analyst Rece Davis’s new top 10?
This story was updated because an earlier version included inaccuracies.
ESPN’s “College GameDay” analyst Rece Davis released his top 10 rankings after Week 9 of the college season. Davis has a vote for the Associated Press and agreed with the media consensus for his top team this week. He ranked the Oregon Ducks No. 1.
The Georgia Bulldogs had a bye week, but they still have the No. 2 spot a week after a 30-15 win over the formerly No. 1 Texas Longhorns. Those Longhorns are settled in the No. 4 spot of Davis’s rankings after holding off a comeback from the Vanderbilt Commodores.
A few new teams join Davis’s rankings. BYU boasts an undefeated record and several impressive wins. It is leading the Big 12 in conference wins. Iowa State is not that far behind with an undefeated record, but it has played one less game than BYU. The Cyclones’ matchup against Kansas State in Week 14 is extremely important in the Big 12 title race.
Week 10 will feature several games with big College Football Playoff implications. Ohio State plays Penn State in a game that could effectively decide the other representative (besides Oregon) in the Big Ten championship.
Georgia plays Florida in Jacksonville for what could be a trap game. Oregon plays Michigan. The Ducks were able to bludgeon Illinois, but the defending champions still represent a test for Oregon.
Rece Davis’ top 10 college football rankings after of Week 9
Where does Georgia fall in Joel Klatt’s top 10 list?
Fox Sports college football expert Joel Klatt released his top 10 college football rankings after an entertaining Week 9. There were several battles between ranked opponents and some near upsets this week, but most of Klatt’s rankings remain the same.
Week 9’s headline matchup was another SEC showdown: the LSU Tigers took on the Texas A&M Aggies in College Station, Texas. The game had massive playoff implications. It looked good for the Tigers early. They took a 17-7 lead off a Garrett Nussmeier touchdown pass to Aaron Anderson. However, Texas A&M turned the game into a blowout with a 31-6 run. They won 38-23 thanks to their insane running game, which produced 242 yards and five touchdowns.
Texas at Vanderbilt was another intriguing SEC game. Georgia fans who watched the Commodores upset Alabama a few weeks ago were hoping for another upset, but the Longhorns secured the 27-24 win.
A few matchups with intrigue were never close. Alabama knew it needed to beat Missouri to have a shot at the College Football Playoff, so the Crimson Tide shut it out, winning 34-0. Oregon continued to prove why it is the No. 1 team in the country, dominating No. 20 Illinois, 38-9.
Next week could prove more fruitful in altering the rankings. Penn State and Ohio State duke it out in a heavyweight Big Ten matchup. Pitt and SMU clash in a game that could see one of them head into the top 10 if Clemson or Miami lose next week. Georgia plays the Florida Gators in Jacksonville, Florida, in a rivalry game.
See where the Alabama Crimson Tide rank in Joel Klatt’s new college football rankings after Week 9.
The Alabama Crimson Tide had a bounce-back 34-0 shutout win over the Missouri Tigers that was showcased in Sunday’s updated Top 25 polls. Kalen DeBoer and the Crimson Tide moved up one spot to No. 14 in both the US LBM Coaches Poll and AP Top 25 poll.
What does the Tide’s impressive performance mean to Fox Sports analyst and broadcaster Joel Klatt? As he does every Sunday, Klatt re-ranked his Top 10 college football teams following Saturday’s action.
Klatt moved Alabama back into his Top 10 at No. 9, one spot behind the Tennessee Volunteers and one spot ahead of the Miami Hurricanes. Alabama had fallen out of Klatt’s Top 10 rankings after its 24-17 loss at Neyland Stadium on Oct. 19.
The Oregon Ducks topped Klatt’s Top 10 rankings, followed by the Georgia Bulldogs at No. 2. The Ohio State Buckeyes were No. 3 with the Penn State Nittany Lions No. 4. The Texas Longhorns were No. 5 in Klatt’s re-rankings.
It’s easy to see why Klatt was impressed with Alabama’s performance.
The Tide dominated in the second half. Jalen Milroe, much maligned after his performance in Alabama’s loss to Tennessee, was far from perfect against Missouri, but he made enough plays with both his arm and his legs for a steady performance.
The Tide ran the ball effectively. Justice Haynes led the way with 79 rushing yards on eight carries and delivered a knockoff-punch touchdown run early in the fourth quarter. Jam Miller had two touchdown runs on 11 carries for 48 yards, and Milroe had a breathtaking nine-yard touchdown scramble early in the third quarter as Alabama slowly began to put Missouri away.
The Crimson Tide finished the day with 271 rushing yards.
And with Missouri driving on what would be its final offensive of the game, the Tide’s defense turned the Tigers away on a fourth-down stop from the 1-yard line. Alabama’s players and coaches, especially defensive coordinator Kane Wommack, were fired up.
All in all, Alabama’s dominant victory gave the Crimson Tide something to feel good about heading into its Week 10 bye. The Tide will head to Baton Rouge to take on the LSU Tigers on Nov. 9.

The Clemson Tigers are just outside the Top 5 in Joel Klatt’s new college football rankings after Week 9.
Week 9 in college football didn’t see a ton of movement in the Top 10, with the top six teams all remaining the same from last week in Sunday’s release of the new US LBM Coaches Poll.
The No. 1 Oregon Ducks looked impressive in their Top 25 matchup against the Illinois Fighting Illini. Dillon Gabriel and Oregon got out to a 35-3 halftime lead and defeated Bret Bielema’s Illini, 38-9.
As for the Clemson Tigers? Dabo Swinney’s team moved up one spot to No. 8 in the coaches poll following their bye week.
What does it all mean to Fox Sports analyst and broadcaster Joel Klatt? As he does each Sunday, the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback re-ranked his Top 10 teams following Saturday’s action.
Klatt moved Clemson up one spot to No. 6 in his weekly re-rank. The Tigers are now four spots ahead of Miami (8-0) in Klatt’s rankings
Clemson ranks one spot ahead of the Indiana Hoosiers (8-0) at No. 7 in Klatt’s rankings. Klatt ranked the Tennessee Volunteers at No. 8 and the Alabama Crimson Tide at No. 9 following their big bounce-back win over the Missouri Tigers, 34-0 in Tuscaloosa. Miami was ranked No. 10.
The 2024 college football season continues to be unpredictable and wildly entertaining. As a result, ranking the top 25 teams in the nation can be a challenging task. The latest US LBM Coaches Poll following Week 9 shows where coaches rank the strong-performing programs as we enter the home stretch of the regular season.
In Week 9, the Alabama Crimson Tide managed to bounce back in a big way following a road loss to the Tennessee Volunteers, which marked the team’s second loss on the season. In a home matchup against a ranked Missouri Tigers team, the Crimson Tide showed up on both sides of the ball to shut out the Tigers and improve to 6-4 on the year.
Staying in the SEC, the Texas A&M Aggies came back from a slight defecit to earn a massive in-conference win over the LSU Tigers. Aggies head coach Mike Elko has his team rolling into the final few games of the season with sole possession of first place in the SEC. As for LSU, the Tigers will host Alabama in a must-see game in Week 11 that will essentially serve as a College Football Playoff elimination game.
Speaking of Texas A&M, their in-state rival, the Texas Longhorns nearly fell into the same trap as Alabama in Nashville against the Vanderbilt Commodores. A win is a win, even if it is only by a field goal. Perhaps the real story here is that Clark Lea is the right man for the job at Vandy.
Both Alabama and Texas A&M climbed slightly in the polls, while Texas maintained at No. 6.
In the ACC, one of the most heated rivalries in all of college football went as expected. The struggling Florida State Seminoles fall to 1-7 on the season after losing to the Miami Hurricanes on the road. Miami’s path to the College Football Playoff seems to be a smooth one, but it’s up to head coach Mario Cristobal and his team to maintain this level of play. As we’ve seen in the past, ‘The U’ has had the makings of a national championship contender at some point in the regular season, but suffered from some sort of catastrophic implosion within the last couple of weeks. Cam Ward has this program on pace to be competitive in the playoffs.
Looking to the Big Ten, the Oregon Ducks are looking stronger every week. After a relatively slow start to the season, head coach Dan Lanning has corrected course and is set to cruise into the College Football Playoffs. Unless something wildly unpredictable takes place, which would oddly be somewhat predictable given the way this season has gone so far.
The Ohio State Buckeyes earned a win this past week over the Nebraska Cornhuskers, but it wasn’t without a scare. A few minor mistakes cost Nebraska the game. So, credit is given to Ohio State for getting the win, but Ryan Day and the Buckeyes will be closely watched as the regular season nears the end. Neither Oregon or Ohio State moved in the poll.
In the Big 12, BYU continues to prove doubters wrong by steamrolling through the regular season schedule. Should BYU manage to keep it up, there is a College Football Playoff spot with their name on it, possibly one that includes a first-round bye.
See where college football coaches ranked your favorite team, if at all, in the latest US LBM Coaches Poll following Week 9 of the 2024 season.
Listen to Nick Saban as he breaks down why top-ranked teams keep losing in 2024.
One of the things that made the 2024 college football season interesting was the fact that former legendary head coach for the Alabama Crimson Tide, Nick Saban, would be away from the game as a retiree. Now, Saban is explaining what has made this season even wilder. The instability at the top of the rankings.
Through the first half of the season, it’s felt like there has been a new top-ranked team every week. The Georgia Bulldogs have stumbled and suffered a loss, Alabama lost its No. 1 ranking on the road against Vanderbilt, and the Texas Longhorns lost. Now, the Oregon Ducks hold the title of the top-ranked team, but who knows how long that will last.
Saban explained that teams are getting too complacent when they are at or near the top of the rankings. In what is one of many Saban quotes that are worthy of being printed on a coffee mug, Saban stated, “people get complacent pretty easily and that’s why you see teams having difficulty staying at number one… It doesn’t matter that you’re number one until you’re number one at the end.”
We are still a few months away from reaching the end of the season and crowning a new national champion, but at this point, it feels like it’s up for grabs.
It will take some time before we know whether the current parity across all of college football will hold, but many are pointing to the massive changes that have taken place over the last few years, such as the expansion of the College Football Playoff, conference realignment, the transfer portal, and name, image, and likeness.
College Sports Wire will continue to follow all things college football as the 2024 season progresses.
