Texas’ Michael Huff part of the 2024 CFB HOF ballot

Michael Huff has a chance to be enshrined with the best to ever play college football.

During his time as a Longhorn, defensive back Michael Huff was one of the most decorated players in a golden Texas era.

The Irving, Texas native won the program’s first Jim Thorpe Award in 2005, was named a two-time first-team All-Big 12 selection, a unanimous All-American, and was named the defensive MVP of Texas’ 2006 Rose Bowl win over USC.

His decorated collegiate career has already notched him a spot in the Texas Hall of Honor and has most recently earned him a spot on the 2024 College Football Hall of Fame ballot.

Joining him are notable names such as Boise State’s Kellen Moore, Marshall’s Randy Moss, Virginia Tech’s Michael Vick, and North Carolina’s Julius Peppers among others.

As a Longhorn, Huff recorded 318 tackles, 26 tackles for loss, seven interceptions, 44 pass breakups, six forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. His stellar career led to him being selected in the first round of the NFL Draft with the No. 7 overall pick by the Raiders. After an eight-year professional career, the Texas ex is now back in Austin where he is an assistant director of player development with the Texas football program.

As it stands right now, there are 25 other Longhorns who have been enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame.

The 2024 College Football Hall of Fame Class will be officially announced on Dec. 10, 2024, and permanently enshrined at the Chick-fil-A College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.

Oklahoma legends included on 2024 College Football Hall of Fame ballot

Dewey Selmon, Josh Heupel, and Rocky Calmus were named to the 2024 College Football Hall of Fame Ballot.

A trio of Oklahoma Sooners legends have the opportunity to be enshrined in the illustrious College Football Hall of Fame.

[autotag]Dewey Selmon[/autotag], [autotag]Josh Heupel[/autotag], and [autotag]Rocky Calmus[/autotag] were placed on the ballot for the College Football Hall of Fame.

Dewey Selmon was a part of a fearsome defensive front that helped the Oklahoma Sooners win four straight Big 8 titles and back-to-back national championships in 1974 and 1975. He recorded 325 tackles, 25 tackles for loss and helped Oklahoma’s defense average 12.8 points per game or fewer from 1973 to 1975.

Josh Heupel was instrumental in leading Oklahoma’s resurgence. A junior college transfer orchestrated Oklahoma’s offensive explosion during his two years in Norman. He threw for 7,456 yards and 53 touchdowns, helping Oklahoma win the 2000 national championship. After his fantastic 2000 season, Heisman was the runner-up to the Heisman trophy.

If Heupel was at the center of Oklahoma’s offensive resurgence, Rocky Calmus could be considered the focal point for their defensive dominance during Oklahoma’s national championship season in 2000.  In 2001, Calmus won the Butkus Award as the top linebacker in the country. He still holds Oklahoma records for tackles for loss, sacks by an inside linebacker, and pass breakups by a linebacker.

Roy Williams is the most recent of Oklahoma’s 23 total College Football Hall of Fame members, being inducted as part of the 2022 class.

“It’s an enormous honor to just be on the College Football Hall of Fame ballot considering more than 5.62 million people have played college football and only 1,074 players have been inducted,” said NFF President & CEO Steve Hatchell. “The Hall’s requirement of being a first-team All-American creates a much smaller pool of about 1,500 individuals who are even eligible. Being in today’s elite group means an individual is truly among the greatest to have ever played the game, and we look forward to announcing the 2024 College Football Hall of Fame Class early next year.”

Former Duck Haloti Ngata nominated for College Hall of Fame

Former Oregon and All-American defensive lineman Haloti Ngata was nominated for the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.

The term “Hall of Famer” is going to be associated with Haloti Ngata soon enough.

The former Oregon Ducks defensive lineman was nominated for the College Football Hall of Fame once again. He is one of 78 former players and nine coaches that performed on the Division I level that was so honored.

It’s almost unbelievable Ngata hasn’t already been enshrined into the Hall that is in Atlanta. In 2005, Ngata became Oregon’s first consensus All-American since 1962 and the first player in program history to be named Pac-12 defensive player of the year.

Ngata will also be eligible for the NFL Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio for the first time in 2024. He played 13 years in the NFL with none of those seasons as a Baltimore Raven. Ngata was an integral part of the defense that won the Super Bowl in 2013.

Check out Tebow’s College Football Hall of Fame credentials ahead of induction

Take a look at Tim Tebow’s College Football Hall of Fame resume, according to @College_Wire.

One of the greatest football players to ever wear the beloved Orange and Blue is unquestionably the quarterback who won a Heisman Trophy and two national championships in Gainesville: [autotag]Tim Tebow[/autotag]. His tenure with the Gators was must-see TV as he put on a show unlike any seen before he came to the Swamp.

Florida football under [autotag]Urban Meyer[/autotag] along with the well-heralded signal caller brought the program to its high-water mark in the mid-aughts, but unfortunately, Meyer and Tebow fell short of their goal of winning a third title before he left. The southpaw quarterback found limited success in the NFL but will always be known for his collegiate greatness.

College Sports Wire’s Patrick Conn put together his breakdown of each of the 18 candidates in this cycle, including Tebow. Here is what he had to offer.

Position: Quarterback

Years: 2006-09

Florida felt the impact of Tim Tebow immediately. As a freshman, he was the backup to starting quarterback [autotag]Chris Leak[/autotag]. He would come in mostly in running situations but would throw the ball as well. That year they won the BCS national championship and would do it again with Tebow as the starter in 2008. He finished his career with 2,947 rushing yards and 57 rushing touchdowns, 23 came in 2007 when he won the Heisman Trophy. He also passed for 9,285 yards and 88 touchdowns.

Tebow’s Accolades:

  • Heisman Trophy Winner (2007)
  • First-team All-American (2007, 2008)
  • Heisman Trophy Finalist (2008, 2009)
  • National Champion (2006, 2008)

Tebow and the rest of the 2023 College Football Hall of Fame Class will officially be inducted during the 65th NFF Annual Awards Dinner Presented by the City of Las Vegas on Dec. 5, 2023, at the ARIA Resort & Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada.

Bill Kollar, Tim Tebow elected to College Football Hall of Fame

Former #Broncos Bill Kollar and Tim Tebow were elected to the College Football Hall of Fame earlier this week.

The College Football Hall of Fame announced 22 new honorees are joining their ranks on Monday, and two former Denver Broncos are in the class.
Former Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow and longtime Denver defensive assistant coach Bill Kollar were elected into the Hall of Fame from a national ballot of more than 170 players and 40 coaches.
Tebow was drafted by the Broncos 25th overall in the 2010 NFL draft out of the University of Florida, two spots behind teammate Demaryius Thomas, who became one of Tebow’s go-to targets during his Denver tenure. Tebow led the Broncos to the 2011 playoffs, winning the AFC West that year. In the 2011 AFC Wild Card game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Tebow hooked up with Thomas in what has become one of the most iconic moments in franchise history, an 80-yard overtime touchdown. “Tebowmania” gripped the nation, before Denver signed Pro Football Hall of Famer Peyton Manning ahead of the 2012 season.
Kollar has been a long-time Denver assistant coach, and had an integral role in the 2015 “No-Fly Zone” defense that set NFL marks for being one of the best units in history. Kollar’s election into the College Football Hall of Fame stems from his time as a defensive tackle at Montana State, where he made 17 tackles, one sack, three pass breakups and had three fumble recoveries in the 1973 season. Kollar is the first Bobcat to receive the honor of election into the Hall of Fame.

5 former Dolphins selected to 2023 College Football Hall of Fame Class

Some had better NFL careers than others.

With the NFL season and college football seasons coming to a close, there’s a look toward the future while still remembering and honoring the players of the past.

On Monday, the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame announced their 2023 College Football Hall of Fame Class which consisted of 18 players and four coaches. With that, five former Miami Dolphins found out that they’d be getting inducted in December.

Here are those who donned the aqua and orange after their collegiate career that’ll be honored in 2023:

Gators legend Tim Tebow named to 2023 College Football Hall of Fame Class

Tim Tebow is finally enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame.

Tim Tebow made Florida football history on Monday when the National Football Foundation announced that he was selected for the 2023 College Football Hall of Fame class, making the legendary quarterback the 10th football player and the 13th Gator overall to earn the honor. His induction is also the seventh for the Orange and Blue since 2006 — good for a Southeastern Conference-best mark over that stretch.

Known for his work both on the field, the Jacksonville, Florida, native burst onto the scene during his freshman season as a backup in 2006 — including his famous jump pass for a touchdown against the LSU Tigers en route to the Gators’ second national championship and first under [autotag]Urban Meyer[/autotag]. The following season, Tebow became the first sophomore to ever win the Heisman Trophy award.

He was one of the best to ever play college ball, leading the Gators to two straight BCS championship games to cap off four-straight bowl game appearances during his tenure in the Swamp. Tebow was anointed team captain twice and set 28 school records in Gainesville, helping to earn his first-ballot nod for the hall.

No. 15 amassed 9,285 yards and 88 touchdowns through the air while also gaining 2,947 yards and 55 touchdowns on the ground during his collegiate career, becoming the first player in NCAA history to rush and pass for at least 20 touchdowns in a season. Tebow led the Gators during a school-record 22-game winning streak from 2007 to 2009 following the infamous Ole Miss loss after which he issued “The Promise“.

Tebow joins [autotag]Steve Spurrier[/autotag] and [autotag]Danny Wuerffel[/autotag] as the other Gators quarterbacks inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
