Nick Saban might be the greatest college football coach of all-time – or close to it – but do his teams cover the spread?

How do all the SEC head coaches do against the spread, and on the road ATS, and going over on the point total?

If you like to invest, here’s everything you need to know about all 14 current SEC head coaches and how they do against the lines.

One important note, all of these stats only reflect how all the coaches have done on their current SEC teams. Two exceptions for the new guys – Billy Napier’s time at Louisiana and Brian Kelly’s era at Notre Dame are counted.

Who covers – and sometimes more importantly – who doesn’t?

Pac-12 Coaches Against The Spread: Ranked From Best To Worst. Who Covers?

Pac-12 Football Coaches Against The Spread: Who are the best and worst Pac-12 coaches when it comes to covering?

How good are all of the Pac-12 head coaches against the spread? Going from best to worst, here’s who covers and who doesn’t.

How do all of the Pac-12 head coaches do against the spread, and on the road ATS, and going over on the point total?

If you like to invest, here’s the breakdown of ten of the 12 head coaches – Oregon’s Dan Lanning is in his first year as a head man, and we’re technically counting Washington State’s Jake Dickert as a first year coach since he’s going into his first full season.

One other note, with a few exceptions from the first year coaches who switched gigs – Lincoln Riley at USC and Kalen DeBoer at Washington – these stats reflect how all the coaches have done on their current Pac-12 teams.

Who covers – and sometimes more importantly – who doesn’t?

Big 12 Football Coaches Against The Spread: Who are the best and worst Big 12 coaches when it comes to covering?

How good are all of the Big 12 head coaches against the spread? Going from best to worst, here’s who covers and who doesn’t.

How do all of the Big 12 head coaches do against the spread, and on the road ATS, and going over on the point total?

If you like to invest, here’s the breakdown of eight of the ten head coaches – Oklahoma’s Brent Venables and Texas Tech’s Joey McGuire are in their first seasons. One important note, with a few exceptions from the first year coaches who switched gigs, these stats reflect how all the coaches have done on their current Big 12 teams.

ACC Coaches Against The Spread: Ranked From Best To Worst. Who Covers?

ACC Football Coaches Against The Spread: Who are the best and worst ACC coaches when it comes to covering?

How good are all of the ACC head coaches against the spread? Going from best to worst, here’s who covers and who doesn’t.

How do all of the ACC head coaches do against the spread, and on the road ATS, and going over on the point total?

If you like to invest, here’s everything you need to know about 11 of the 14 current ACC head coaches and how they do against the lines.

One important note, all of these stats only reflect how all the coaches have done on their current ACC teams. The new head coaches – Mike Elko at Duke, Tony Elliott at Virginia, and Brent Pry at Virginia Tech – aren’t a part of this because they’ve never done this before, and Miami’s Mario Cristobal gets credit for his time at Oregon before taking over the new gig.

Who covers – and sometimes more importantly – who doesn’t?

There are riches in niches.

Take Jeff Scott, please.

He’s just 3-18 overall in his first two seasons as USF’s head coach. But give more than seven days to prepare and he’s 5-0 against the spread (ATS). The Bulls are off October 22nd before heading to Houston a week later.

Coaches who maximize bye weeks and long weeks consistently beat the number. Below are the 10 best, along with the week they’re all coming off a two-week break this season.

2022 Utah Schedule Analysis

9. Chris Creighton, Eastern Michigan (since 2014)

ATS After a Bye: 9-5 (64%)
2022 Bye: Nov. 5 (at Akron on Nov. 8)

T8. Jeff Brohm, Purdue (since 2017)

ATS After a Bye: 7-3 (70%)
2022 Bye: Oct. 29 (vs. Iowa on Nov. 5)

Brohm is also 19-8 ATS as an underdog, so the Boilermakers are an even more attractive play if they’re getting points from Iowa in Week 10.
2022 Purdue Preview

T8. P.J. Fleck, Minnesota (since 2017)

ATS After a Bye: 7-3 (70%)
2022 Bye: Oct. 8 (at Illinois on Oct. 15)

4. Philip Montgomery, Tulsa (since 2015)

ATS After a Bye: 12-4 (75%)
2022 Bye: Oct. 15 (at Temple on Oct. 21)

ATS After a Bye: 7-2 (78%)
Games After Bye Week:: Oct. 15 (vs. FAU on Oct. 22) & Nov. 12 (vs. FIU on Nov. 19)

While Dimel is just 12-33 overall with the Miners, he’s been a great at getting his team to at least bring a fight with the extra preparation time.

1. Dave Doeren, NC State (since 2013)

ATS After a Bye: 15-4 (79%)

2022 College Football Schedules: All 131 Teams

10 Power Five football head coaches who need a strong first month of the season

These coaches could find themselves on the hot seat if their teams have a rough start.

We’re still more than a month away from toe meeting leather when Week 0 college football action kicks off, but that doesn’t mean it’s too early to take a look at coaches who could be in a bit of trouble entering the 2022 season.

A number of coaches in the Power Five survived last fall by the skin of their teeth and enter this season under quite a bit of pressure to turn things around quickly. Others are early in their tenure but have still yet to deliver much in the way of proof of concept and face what could prove to be pivotal campaigns.

We saw an absurd amount of movement within the Power Five during this past coaching carousel, and given the changing state of college football and the amount of money in coaching, that’s a trend that we likely haven’t seen the last of.

Early impressions during the first month of the season can be crucial in determining a coach’s ultimate fate. With that in mind, here are 10 guys who need those impressions to be positive. Not all of these coaches are necessarily on the hot seat, but they all need strong starts to keep perception on their side — or, in some cases, get it back on their side.
